I have a datatable with one column, I am trying to retrieve the values in the table into a string array using linq.
Dim dt As DataTable = DataAccessManager.ExecuteSelectQuery(selectStr).Tables(0)
Dim strArr() As String = (From dr As DataRow In dt.AsEnumerable.AsQueryable _
Select dr("MASTERID").ToString()).ToArray()
I get an error "Range variable cannot match name of a member of the 'Object' class"
I have a stored procedure in DBML and I try to pass the result to "sqlQryArray" as an array(1 dimensional array). But the bottom code causes error like below message. What else should be done?
Error 1 Value of type '1-dimensional array of aaaDatabase.stp_GetSomethingResult' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String' because 'aaaDatabase.stp_GetSomethingResult' is not derived from 'String'.
The return result from stored procedure is a just list of first names of students(only one column)
Dim sqlQry = aaaLINQ.stp_GetSomething(bbb,ccc,ddd)
Dim sqlQryArray As String() = sqlQry.ToArray()
I have been trying to solve this with no luck. If i have an array Private _msg() As String = {"You have been successfully logged in.", "This message has been sent successfully.", "This message has been posted successfully."} And a string (page source) can LINQ try to find any of the Three elements in the array with out having to use a loop?
View 11 RepliesCan a LINQ or a LAMBDA expression be used to count the 1's in a binary string ?For example, if I convert a number to its BINARY using.>>
Dim binaryString As String = Convert.ToString( numberVariable, 2 )
1) Without using a loop such as a FOR NEXT loop, can I count the number of 1's in the STRING using LINQ or a LAMBDA expression?
2) Can I get the indexes of where the 1's are at in a collection such as a LIST using LINQ or a LAMBDA expression?I know the syntax of some LINQ expressions, however, I don't know which method may be suitable.
Can this be rewritten any better using LINQ? I'm a C#er trying to think in VB.NET for this current project. It's in an ASP.NET Web Forms .vb codebehind:

The error is Value of type '1-dimensional array of string' cannot be converted to 'String'.
I currently have a program that uses Linq to read a CSV file. Everything was working great until a recent change was done where the CSV file had records being added to it where the last 2 columns where empty. So, the error I am getting now is Index was outside the bounds of the array. The question I have is how do I handle a column where an empty or null value is set in the CSV file?
Here's my abbreviated code below.
Function readLINQ(ByVal strCustomerFile As String) As DataTable
Dim readlines = File.ReadAllLines(strCustomerFile)
File.WriteAllLines(strCustomerFile, readlines.Skip(4).ToArray())
Dim gTable As New DataTable("CashFile")
With gTable

Apologies if this is the wrong forum (the other LINQ based ones didn't seem appropriate). I'm writing a very simple code crack game, a player enters FOUR numbers in a text box which are compared against the random number generated on form launch. Random number generator

I've been assigned a homework assignment where I need to use LINQ to find certain numbers within an array. I've read through the book and some online tutorials, for some reason I just can't seem to understand it. I'm not asking anybody to do my homework for me... Just asking if anybody could explain it better, maybe in more detail?

I am writing an OPC Client in VB.NET (2008) and I am using an OPC wrapper from Graybox. I am having some problems with the data types. I have an Array of String that contains all of the OPC Items that I wish to read from the OPC Server. When I attempt to use the Array of String, Option Strict causes the following compile error message:Error 5 Option Strict On disallows narrowing from type 'System.Array' to type '1-dimensional array of String' in copying the value of 'ByRef' parameter 'ItemIDs' back to the matching argument. How do I pass the Item ID's (all strings) in an array?

I am having a little problem with some homework. Here is the problem:Use the Invoice Class provided to create an array of Invoice Objects. Write a Console Application that performs the following queries on the array of Invoice objects and displays the results:

Use the Invoice Class provided to create an array of Invoice Objects. Class Invoice includes four properties- a PartNumber (type integer), a PartDescription (type String), a Quantity of the item being purchased (type Integer), and a Price (type Decimal). Write a Console Application that performs the following queries on the array of Invoice objects and displays the results:
a. Use LINQ to sort the Invoice Objects by PartNumber
b. Use LINQ to sort the Invoice objects by Price
c. Use LINQ to select the PartDescription and Quantity and sort the results by Quantity
d. Use LINQ to select from each Invoice the PartDescrition and the value of the Invoice (i.e. Quantity * Price). Name the calculated column InvoiceTotal. Order the results by InvoiceTotal.
e. Using the results of the LINQ query in Pard d, select the InvoiceTotals in the range of $200 to $500
I am pretty sure I have parts a, b, & c completed correctly. Or at least the provide the desired results. Part d I figured out how to multiply the 2 fields but can't create a new column for the result or figure out how to show the PartDescription with the multiplied result. Part c I think I can figure out when I get part d. I already coded what I think will work for part c.
Below are the 2 Objects the Invoice was given and not to be changed & the LINQ is the one I have been working on.
Module LINQ
Sub Main()
' array of invoices
Dim invoices As Invoice() = { _
New Invoice("83", "Electric Sander", "7", 59.98), _

I have an array defined As string and the value stored in site is like "7E", "A1" and so on. But in order to send out this array through serial port. I need to change the the array to As Byte instead of using As String. How can I convert it?
View 8 RepliesI've been working with a sig capture application sample on a windows mobile device, The data is sent via IP to a host as a byte array and is then drawn onto the screen of the host as it appeared on the client. I was able to get this into the form of a bitmap object so I could print it or save to a jpg file. That all works well. The problem now is that I need to store this data in a database and then be able to recall it at a later time and recreate the signature image.
The byte array data is much smaller than the actual image so I would like to store it in that form. My issue is that when I convert this byte array into a string and back again my program can no longer re-create the image. Once I saw the problem I created the code below as a test and added the msgboxes to get an idea what was happened to my data.

i have 2 string arrays and I want to merge them together then put the elements into a third string array ..
for an example :

string2="d","e","f"
after merging:

I want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.

I's there a way that I can access the properties of all controls stored into my array of object using LINQ.
Public Sub DisAble(Byval ParamArray ctrlCollection() As Object)End Sub That is my sub routine where im trying to reset all controls that will stored into that object of array. But im trying to attain that using LINQ so I wont use any loops to access all of it.
No matter how I try, I can't seem to create a nice and clean algorithm for doing the following:
