Get A List Of Files, Including Subfolders?

Feb 19, 2009

I've tried searching for a way to get a list of all files + all files in all subdirs. I've tried a simple shell("dir /s /b > myfile.txt") but it doesn't work because of some Danish specific characters. I have looked at the "getfiles" method, but I can't get it to work

Reconcile A List Of Files And A Directory With Subfolders/files To Find Changes?

Jun 3, 2010

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:

For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase
If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database
Next

[Code]....

Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?

List Deleted Files And Their Names From NTFS Drive

Mar 22, 2010

I'm trying to make a small app that reads MFT from a NTFS drive and lists deleted files and their names. The code is not ordered since its not finished yet. I made it basing on information a read at ntfs.com and some other examples found on the net. But the problem itself is the following. I have hard disk with to NTFS partitions, the main one having 250 GB and the second one having 1,5 GB. If I execute my code on the smaller drive, (using D as parameter for readfile api), I get the list of all deleted files exactly (I checked it with a recovery file app).

The problem is when I execute it on the other drive (C where Windows is installed, 7 if it matters), the problem is that I cant find any deleted file!!. The code gets all the files from MFT and then saves in a string variable only the deleted ones, I found that after deleting one file, it also disappears from the MFT (at least using my code). So, there may be some other way in which NTFS marks deleted files? As you see in my code, I iterate through the MFT entries and, from those that start with FILE, I take bytes 22 and 23 (0 base) and evaluate, if its value is 0 then its deleted, otherwise, it isn't (its a file or directory I think).

Synchronizing - (using A Background Worker) Checking All Of The Files & Subfolders

Jul 17, 2009

Unless someone knows of a way to do this already in windows, what's the best method for (using a background worker) checking all of the files & subfolders in a folder against another folder in an external usb hdd?

I'd like it to copy only the files that's changed since the last backup, and it'd be nice if I could right-click on a folder (which i can easily google this one, it's a common thing) and select my program and it'd pop up a window to get the destination (since the source is known from the windows context menu) and only copy (overwriting the existing files/folders) that've changed since the last backup.

Get Files In Directory Including Subs?

Jun 22, 2010

I'm writing a program that gathers a list of files within a directory and optionally, every file within the subdirectories (10 levels deep) of the directory then exports it as a text file. I have no idea how to do this so I just attempted to code it myself.

It works by gathering a list of every subdirectory within the selected directory and their subdirectories, so on and so on and adds them to a listbox. Then to gather the list of files I used a for each to get the files within the subdirectories but it shows "(Collection)". After exporting it shows " System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection`1[System.String]".

How can I make this code work? I think I could've done this much easier a different way but I need the full path included.

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
Dim FolderBrowserDialog1 As New FolderBrowserDialog

Installing App To CD And Including Resource Files?

Jan 3, 2011

I have written a simple app that allows our clients to access documents they might need throughout their time of doing business with us. They access these document via a button click event. First off I'd like to publish this program and install it onto a CD so that the end user does not have to install anything on their machine. They just simply pop the CD in and the program runs and they can click on whatever document they need. I'm having to trouble figuring out how to install it on a CD. I am also pretty sure i've done my mouse click events incorrectly because i have the exact path to the documents in my resources file.

i'm currently using the "System.dianogistics...process"(i'm not sure if thats the exact syntax and i forgot a couple of the words) function(i'm not sure if this is a function or not. i'm not super familar with VB). but when i use this method it requires the exact path for the file. which doesn't make sense if i want it on a CD which would change the location of the file for my C: to E:.
