Apr 19, 2012
I am trying to write an application to delete files in a temp directory - so for example C:WindowsTemp
I need it to delete all files and subfolders (including all files in these subfolders) - but to NOT delete the top/root folder i.e. in this case Temp
I have tried
Dim fso, fldr
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FilesystemObject")
Set fldr = fso.GetFolder("c:windows emp")

I've tried searching for a way to get a list of all files + all files in all subdirs. I've tried a simple shell("dir /s /b > myfile.txt") but it doesn't work because of some Danish specific characters. I have looked at the "getfiles" method, but I can't get it to work

i have this right now:
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(TextBox1.Text)
Dim aryFi As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.*")
......
and that displays only the file name, like text.txt but i want it to display C:/Text.txt and all the files in the subfolders too, like C:/Program Files/Test2.txt but i just get test.txt from only the c:/ .

I want to be able to add a folder (and inturn, all of it's contents including subfolders) to a setup project. I can manually add a folder, then manually add all of the files for that folder; but this is a NetHelp folder with lots of subfolders and files.
Is there a way to tell the setup to add everything in a folder to the setup files to be distributed??

this is the code i have on form load: textbox1.text ="C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktop"
here's the code to load the listbox:
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
Dim filepath As String = (textbox1.text)
My.Application.DoEvents()
Try
For Each file As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles _
...
now what this does is load the files w/out the file path or extensions , but, it loads the files in the subfolders as well . i just need the desktop files to load in the listbox, not the subfolder files

vb 2008 on Vista: I have a folder called "Documents", and another called "PastDocuments". When the user deletes a client, I copy the contents of Documents into the Past Documents folder. Next, I need to delete the Documents folder, but there are existing files within that folder, so it won't let me delete it. What is the easiest way to delete ALL files within that folder?

I have created a project where I can attach files and I am displaying the name of the file, example:
Mytestfile.doc
mytestfile.txt
Mytestfile.pdf
I have the names being displayed on a listbox, so far everything is working just the way I expected to work.When a file is selected from my opendialogbox, the file gets saved into a folder under my local disk, so far so good.The problem that I am having is deleting the file from the folder.I have added a delete button and I would like to when I click or highlight one of the file names to go into where the file was saved previously and deleted This is the code that I have for the delete funtion:
[CODE Dim sFileName As String = "C:program filesSupport DeskAttachments" & ListBox1.Text
System.IO.File.Delete(sFileName)]
The problem is that if I add the code to the clcik event under the listbox, it works great, but if I add the code to the click event under my delete button, it doesn't work, what I found is that under the path, if I am under the click event from the listbox when it gets to the lisxtbox.text it displays the file name, which is what I whant, but when i tried the code under the click event under my delete button the listbox.text is blank.

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:
For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase
If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database
Next
....
Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?

I'm not really much of a programmer, so I was hoping I could get a little assistance with a simple task.
Quite simply, all I want to do is create a small program that creates a new folder on my C drive, and inside that folder, I want to generate 99 subfolders, named 01-99. I want to be able to input the name of the new folder, click a button, and then voila99 subfolders inside it. That's all I need.
I am pretty good at creating forms, and I already have an idea of how to design it, but the code, nahhh. Thirty years ago, I could probably come up with a for-next loop, but not today.Would anyone be willing to provide a snippet of code that might do this? PS: If anyone is wondering why the heck I need 99 subfolders in a folder, here's why I have a car stereo that supports USB flash drives. I have a 16 GB flash drive, but the car stereo only recognizes 99 folders. There are far, far more than 99 folders on the flash drive, so I have to consolidate them. That's it.

I have a program that copies files listed in an excel file and adds two columns together to rename the file when it is copied. This all works perfect. What I am having difficulty with is when the files are copied and renamed - I can't get it to find files in subfolders and copy them also. I have a text file that is created letting me know what files were not copied and the subfolder files are always on there?

Unless someone knows of a way to do this already in windows, what's the best method for (using a background worker) checking all of the files & subfolders in a folder against another folder in an external usb hdd?
I'd like it to copy only the files that's changed since the last backup, and it'd be nice if I could right-click on a folder (which i can easily google this one, it's a common thing) and select my program and it'd pop up a window to get the destination (since the source is known from the windows context menu) and only copy (overwriting the existing files/folders) that've changed since the last backup.
