no errors with this code, but how is Me possible since the Event is shared. it seems like there's no errors between switching shared with un-shared and switching Me with Myclass, all 4 combinations seem to work, isn't that weird
Child Objects Raising Events In Parent Objects?
May 1, 2009long story short, I have created a ListView type control, using UserControls for the parent control and the ListViewItems. Most the of the control is written and works fine, right up to the point where I tried to replicate the 'Control.SelectedItems(0).Index' property and the 'SelectedIndexChanged' event.
Each child object knows its index value, and could pass this value via the SelectedIndexChanged event (assuming this is how it works in a normal ListView control -- user clicks on an item, and that item fires an event updating the selected index value in the parent object).
How does the child object raise an event in the parent object? I have a feeling this could be done with Delegates, but I'm still learning about their usage.

Anything Wrong With Using Lots Of Shared Methods And Objects
Jul 9, 2009I seem to find more and more that I declare a lot of objects or methods as Shared now but it feels like I am not doing things properly.I try to avoid doing this but then I just end up with situations where I have to create an instance of a class just to call one method that would act no differently if it was just a shared method.Basically I'm just wanting to know if there is any good reason to avoid using Shared objects/methods. Obviously I dont declare EVERYTHING as shared, but it just seems to make things a lot simpler most of the time.For example in my current project (a chat application using WCF) I have a class just called Core which houses a lot of the main functions of the client program, so it has methods such as: SignUserIn, SignUserOut, SendMessage, MessageReceived etc and it also holds properties such as a list that contains all of the currently online users. These things are all declared Shared in my program because as far as I can see there is no reason for having to do this:[code]

Nov 21, 2010There is a popup window which is rendered using xslt (no aspx page) on click of button, during this window load and close events I need to manipulate the text exist in the textarea of popup window. Having said I need to store the list words (key,value) for validation and spell check so I just declared a dictionary/hashtable object in common class (globals.vb) where i could store (add and retain values until I click close window, there could be couple of in turn calls to other methods of popup window) and manipulate as expected but whenever I reset the dictionary/hashtable (objDic.clear()) on popup load and close, it resets the concurrent users dictionary also.
Note :
1.Dictionary is declared as Public in Public Module (Globals.vb).
2.Dictionary manipulation happens inside the shared method (that is in turn calls to shared method of popup events).
Events In Nested Objects?
Oct 17, 2010I can't seem to find a lot on how to use events in nested objects. I suspect that I should have access to the events in the nested objects through intellisense if I had done things right. I have many objects with 50 or so properties and I would like to access them with out adding handlers for each one and additional events in parent objects.

Jul 25, 2011I'm having a problem at the moment developing my application. What i need to do is find out how many modems they are connected to my system and send data to each one in turn. I have the programme working for one modem at the moment.
So I can send data to a modem that i specify, for example a modem on COM port 1. I have functions already that will give me a list of COM ports that I need to open.My problem is that i want to dynamically create a new modem object along side existing modems and store them in a collection.

.net - Handling Events For Late-bound Objects?
May 7, 2009I would like to use MS Office automation and have event handlers that fire for user-triggered events. For example, if the user clicks the save button in Word, I want to intercept that event and execute code in my program.
I don't want to be bound to a specific version of Word because I don't know what version my user will be running, so I instantiate a reference to Word using late binding. The problem is that the AddHandler and the Dim WithEvents commands require specific references to an object that is known at design time. Given this, how can I define an event handler without having an early bound reference to a specific version of the Word library?
I can try to a reference to an earlier version of Word with the expectation that newer versions of Word will be backwards compatible, but this seems kludgey and risky.

I have been successful in creating the array, positioning each and entering the images for all 104 PictureBoxes, but now I want to add code for the event "MouseDown.I copied the code for this event from my VB3 program and VB10 automatically updated the list of parameters, but nothing has linked the objects (Card) to the code.
I have tried to append "Handles Card.MouseDown" as well as several variations with brackets to indicate that it is an array.Auto-complete doesn't include "Card" as an option, and of course, since the array was never an object added to the form design, I can't create the empty module from there.

Jul 28, 2010I've been thinking about my options when it comes to events in vb.net.What I'd like to do is to track events that are fired in an application without explicitly declaring them with 'handles' sub. Here is a pseudo-[code]....
Yeah I know, not quite working, but is there any way of implementing something like this in vb.net? My end game is really to be able to monitor events fired in many objects from another object, isn't there a more maintainable way to do that then to add a special sub in each object that handles the event that I want to catch? I need some way to let one object handle events fired in other objects without a special sub, the AddHandler goes a long way, but I can't really use that dynamically like so:[code]....

I'm using ASP/VB.Net, IIS6.0 on a Windows Server 2003 box.I've looked at various sources online, and have not been able to piece together a proper result. Things I have tried:
On the server, I have mapped out the drive and the directory.Permissions seem to be properly set, impersonate is correct.If I were to list a directory in the actual directory "C:InetpubDirectory", there is no failure.I do understand this is incomplete for the Directory listing portion, this will only list files (so this will need to be modified.I have attempted to create a Virtual Directory, and the application presented the same error. On my local development machine, I have the same path created - same error. How am I able to view the contents of a shared directory and it's files?
