Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
Me.Close()

but when i click the button, nothing happened..
I have an Access 2007 Database with a lot of forms and I dont want to recreate them. Is there a way to convert the forms and further develop them in Visual Studio 2005?

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

I need to write a paper on the comparison between (Microsoft Visual studio 2005 to develop web applications using asp.net) and (visual basic and Netbeans to develop j2ee applications using java).I need suggestions for good webpages,journals or documents which can help me out here. I have to write at least 1500 words so any suggestions are welcome.

In VB for excel i've used Screenupdating=false to disable the screen updating however now i'm creating a visual studio 2010 windows forms application and its not showing up as a property. Here's the code i've tried.

I create a new Windows Forms Application project in VB.NET without changing any of the settings or labels. Then I click on "Add Data Source" and go through the steps in my programming book. Except that Visual Studio is crashing with a message stating that VB encountered a problem...checking for causes...restarting VB.
Sometimes I get to click the "Debug and Run" button before this happens; other times, it occurs before I move all the labels in form from the data source; and still other times, it happens when I click the "Stop Debugging" button.
I have tried removing VB and reinstalling it, but this still is not helping. (If it matters, I'm getting my copy of VB from [URL]
How can I stop Visual Studio from crashing whenever I try to load or work with a Data Source?
I have a project written in Vb6, and I can't load it into the Visual Studio 2010-editor/compiler, because no wizard pops up. The idea then was to install Visual Studio 2008 and try to get to 2010 via that. But apparently the downloadlink for 2008 is not working. Does anybody have answers or ideas to my problems.

View 3 RepliesI am calling a Fortran DLL from Vb.Net. I am declaring this in the class and then I am calling the DLL. I made this Fortran DLL from a Fortran Exe code. If I just use the exe code of the Fortran program I get different values than if I use Fortran DLL. First I thought may be there is a delay, so I used Sleep() before the end of the loop. But this does not change the values I am getting. I don;t understand why the results are different in exe and DLL, since I made DLL using the same exe code. I am not sure if the DLL is completely exited before it called again. Below is the code (partial).

I have an desktop application that references several dlls. All are targeted for .Net 3.5, x86. The applicaiton has been deployed for several years and was upgraded from visual studion 2008 to 2010 last year. I have made several changes to the app since then (as recently as last Thursday) with out any issues. Now, everything builds, but when I run the application, I get a type initialiazer error when one of the projects is loaded by the main application.
The error messsage is {"Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.":"System.Drawing, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"}.
There were no changes to this project since the last successfuly deployment last week, but today I am getting this error.
I've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?
I am working on a project where I have to load assemblies (lets call them tasks) at runtime, run the task and then be able to kill off the whole assembly so that the dll can be replaced without interrupting the main application.There are many of these tasks running within the main application,some run sequentially and some run in parallel.Occasionally one or to of these tasks need to be updated and then re-added to the queue. Currently we are stopping the entire application and interrupting the other tasks at whatever stage they are at, which is not ideal.I have figured out that I will have to load each assembly into a separate AppDomain, but loading the assemblies in those domains is proving difficult, especially when I need to actually run the tasks and receive events from them.I have been looking into this problem for a couple of days and have still not managed to get a working proof-of-concept.
I have an Interface for the tasks which includes a 'run' and 'kill' method (subs) and a 'taskstep','complete' and 'killed' event.'taskstep' returns an object to be cached later, 'complete' fires when the whole task is done and 'killed' fires when it is ready to be unloaded.There should also be a timeout on the whole process of two hours and a timeout of 2 minutes on the killed event in case it gets stuck, at which point I would like to be able to unload it, forcing any threads to terminate (which is what 'kill' should do anyway).Each assembly may contain several tasks, all of which should loadable be unloadable.I have no problems loading these tasks as 'plugins' but am lost when trying to both use them and unload them. If I have to create some elaborate wrapper then so be it but is what I need even possible? I have tried inheriting from MarshalByRefObject but I do not even know the assembly fullname unless I load it first, which then locks the file. I have tried loading from a byte array of the assembly. This means that the file is not locked but a copy of it remains in the current appdomain. This will become problematic over the following months / years![code]
Followup to a previous post: It's been determined that Windows Device Drivers cannot be written in VB.NET; that's being dealt with separately.
What I'm interested to know here is if there's a DotNET Framework facility for adding/removing/managing device drivers; for example, can I build a VB.NET application to list loaded drivers, or drivers attached to a specific device, then load or unload those drivers as needed? It never hurts to try. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn from it.
I am programming in VB9 WPF and Blend 3. I was working on a program in Blend 3; I can work on all my forms and everything runs fine in Blend, but when I opened it in VS the WFP forms would not display (I have five of them in my program and they all have the same problem in Visual Studio.), but I can run the program in VS, see the forms in run mode, and work on the code behind with no problem. I can't determine what is causing the WPF forms error in VS. It appears I have a "ResourceDictionary_4 error, but I cannot locate that dictionary in either Visual Studio or Blend. I even tried searching my entire computer and can't find any trace of it. Are there any ideas as to how do I solve this problem? The error messages I am getting are:

I am trying to make a UI that has a few forms / panels, each for a different "Tab" in the program.
I am guessing that the way to do this is using panels and code like:
Panel1.Visible = False
Panel2.Visible = False
Panel3.Visible = False
Panel4.Visible = True
Would I be correct in assuming that this is the best way to go? (I don't want lots of popup forms in the program, looking for the most streamlined way to go).
Also, if this is the correct way to go how would I go about hiding each panel in the IDE so that I can work on each one seperately using the designer view?
Here is the best example application I can think to use: [URL] Each of the tabs (Proxies, Harvester etc) has an image as the tab (Which I can't find an option to do with TabControl and then displays the container / panel below it
Since there is no "Save as" option in the File menu, how do I go about changing the name of an application in Visual studio -Visual Basic 2005?
View 4 RepliesI need some kind of structure where I can store data with a unique copy of each item (I mean that there can't be more than one of each). Something like the "set" type in the good ol' Turbo Pascal.
I know Visual Studio 2010 has the SortedSet data type, but I can't find something like that in Visual Studio 2005. Is there anything I can use for this purpose?
I am new to Visual Studio and (I am using Visual Studio 2005)I know how to connect/edit, etc to an access database by just using coding but I am having a problem with the Visual Studio Database wizard.
When I create a new Data Source and I specify a Microsoft Access Database File (OLE DB) connection + *.mdb filename, etc I am able to drag the table name onto the form and browse the contents of the database when running the application. No problem there.
The problem is when I run the application and adding new records to the database via the form, the new data does not get saved. I run the app (F5) + add new data to the database + save + then close the app. When I rerun the app from Visual Studio (F5), the new data is gone.
i would like to ask how am i going to add files with filenames that have non-English characters Also when i try to reinstall my application i get an error.Do i have to always change the version of the application in order to make an installation without errors ?

View 1 RepliesA Dialog that is added to a Windows Forms project comes with two buttons (OK and Cancel) and Click event subroutines for each. The subroutines close the Dialog with different DialogResult enumerations. Here's the code in the one for Cancel: Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel Me.Close() But either statement (changing DialogResult to an enumeration other than Null or Close), by itself, will close the Dialog as well. (Try commenting out one and then the other to prove it to yourself.) Here's the question: Why both? Why not just one or the other?
View 1 RepliesToday I noticed that Visual Studio 2008 always treats a file as if it was a component or a form if this file contains a definition of one.This means that it always opens the designer by default. I think this behavior is very annoying, because a file containing a class that derives from form or control does not have to be an actual form or control and I want to edit the source by default.
