I am trying to create a VB.NET app that will capture failed windows logins without having to read from the security log. I know I can do ManagementEventWatcher and watch forWin32_LogonSession. But this only gives you successful logins. Is there anyway to do this? I figure I am just missing the correct class that will do this.

Let's say you have a useraccount table which stores data about the user accounts. What if the system is run fron scratch (with the database having no input whatsoever, meaning, there are no existing user accounts as well)? How are you going to have the user login to the system?
Would you incorporate a backup admin into the login form (eg: a backup admin user with admin and pass as its username and password, respectively)? I did this, but limited the account's authorization to making an admin-level account. Suggestions?

I am new with VB 2010, I am starting a new personal project to control a browser based game for meWhat i have done so far is made a Windows Forms Application, with three tabs all with web browser and directing to the game.What i am having trouble with so far is to align the page so it is just the flash box of the game on the web site, so all i see in my window is the game and nothing more of the website.Also trying to work out how i can allow each tab to have a different account but on the same url address. A little bit like multifox made by firefox.
View 4 RepliesI use Visual Basic.net to create a program that connects to several websites, logins, then post some data. I can't use the httpwebrequest, some java is required on those sites, so i use the webbrowser control.Now I created a form, some fields for input data and a submit button. The coding part is like this:

The problem is that I can't control what happens after submit button is clicked. I need to pause or stop the process at any time. If I exit the program while processing, I can see that even if the window disappear, the program is still running!I tried to use a thread for this, but the subs only get called if I use begininvoke, or invoke on a starter thread.

Im doing a lil coding project in vb .net, i wrote up my login script and can can successful connect to a mysql database (not talking about the wordpress one) and pull login data from a table(called logins, fields are just username and password) to use for logging into my application. When i looked at the password fields in the wordpress database all the passwords are like encrypted and are random characters.
So the problem is im not sure of what type of encryption it is, and how I can utilize it for my login form in my vb project. I havn't tried coding this since i was certain if it was possible.

View 10 RepliesI created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.
Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?
I've been asked to write code to track IP addresses of visitors to one of my company's online applications in .NET. This is actually the second one I've done, having done another site late last year. I noticed then, and again now, that I sometimes get the same IP address showing up for what I know is another box.....sometimes a co-worker's and sometimes a box not even in this building. The code is pretty straightforward, here's how I get the address:

I log the results to a database upon users logging in. My testing this morning on my development box, of course, yielded 127.0.0.1.....fine, just what I expected. When I deployed the code on our staging server, I got my actual IP address (I've seen it enough to know it when I see it). All fine.....but then a co-worker in our QA group went in to do some testing and MY IP address was logged in the database. I know with certainty that we don't share that address.
I also recall seeing this during my first deployment, when transactions from customers in various states around the US were logged with MY IP address. I'm not seeing things... It's almost like the transaction header is being cached and subsequent calls aren't fetching the new user's info.
I created a SQL DB named MainDB.mdf and a small VB 2010 application with some forms and datasets.Everything was working OK until i got a new computer and re-installed Visual Studio 2010 and SQL server 2010 on it. I copied my DB from the old to the new computer and also copied by VB 2010 project to it. I used Windows Authentication to connect to the DB in the old computer and also in the new one, i am using different Windows user account names though.
I was able to connect to the DB in the new computer in the Server Explorer section, i created a new connection string to the DB and i can seed there is data in the tables. When i run my VB 2010 application created in the old computer get error:
"Cannot open database "MainDB" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'D630Admin'."
I need to get rid of that error and be able to add/mod/del data from my DB using my VB application as i used to.

We have a web app that is using forms security.One of the options includes the ability to print an html page to PDF. We're currently evaluating different products like PdfMetamorphosis, but I believe all of them will have this issue.The client makes a request for the pdf by clicking a link button. The code for the button instantiates the PDF builder and passes it a url to convert. However, the URL is behind our forms authentication. Which means that the resulting PDF is nothing but a login page.
Unfortunately, we need the user information in order to verify acccess to the printed page (among other reasons). Which means I can't just allow access to everyone to that folder.So I need one of three possible solutions.
1) I need a way to give the PdfMetamorphosis component the authorization ticket to pass on in it's request.
2) I need an html to pdf component that will do this.
3) Something else?
I don't think the first one is possible and I haven't been able to find a html to pdf component that takes this into consideration.
I want to use PKI public and private encryption for authentication to allow for a more streamlined and secure application access control system. Any help in the generation of certificate and authentication will be useful. One more question, can i use System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates class for the same?

View 1 RepliesI can use the c110 cam and one of the 270 versions at same time to get two seperate displays but when I try to usetwo of the 270 cams at same time which both show in device manager, I get "camera in use by another application" even though there are two cams (270's)and I reference them both seperately from a populated combo box containig all media devices present.will need to use all of the same type of cam for this app which will have from 4 to 16 or more cameras viewing and or recording at the same time. If there were 16 slightly different versions of the same cam which would give me different drivers, It would be fine but as you can probably imagine, not acceptable.

The application has to receive backup data from clients software located at different pc over the Internet. but am concerned about security of this application on the Internet. what would be the best way to implement security in vb.net 2008 to make sure that the data is not sniffed or interfere with?
am thinking of encrypting the data before sending, saving it that way until it need to be viewed before decrypting. what type of encryption would you suggest? Is there any other way you would suggest this data be sent?

I use VB.Net 2003 and in my application I create a folder that I will use to create files in it.My problem is that under Windows 7 this folder dont have a full permissions and the files are not been created.Is there any way that I can give full access permissions to this folder?I can do it via VB.Net 200358 and via my Wise installation system.
