MDI Child Froms Focus And Scrolling?
Feb 4, 2011
I have achieved for the most part what the users want, which is to be able to have multiple MDIChild forms open at once for example the Child form displaying the data and the Child form displaying the user's manual. The child forms can be resized to some extent and can be moved around within the Parent form. When the user clicks on the title bar of one of the Child forms or selects a menu item opening a new Child form the newly opened Child form or the Child form on which the user has clicked the title bar gets focus.
I also have one Child form which will not scroll with the mouse wheel even when it has focus. Actually there is very little of the form that is not ocvered with controls. It has about 8 group boxes with several otehr controls within the group boxes. When I click on a list box within one of the group boxes the list box will scroll through the values, but when some other control gets the focus or the forms itself has focus (via clicking on the form's title bar)the form will not scroll with the mouse wheel. The other Child forms do scroll with the mouse wheel.The AutoScroll and AutoSize properties of the Child form are both set to true. I also have VerticalScroll and HorizontalScroll visible and enabled properties sey to true

I have set a scrollable control's autoscroll to true. What do you do when you don't want a scroll to occur? For example, suppose you have a RichTextBox and a button side by side as below:
Notice that "button1" has the focus. If you click on the RichTextBox to give it focus, the scroll bars will scroll until the upper left corner of the RichTextBox is in view.
But what if, for whatever reason, you wanted to keep button1 in view? How would you do that?

This is the code so far I have been testing for my MDI Parent/Child forms, and when I create for example 2 child forms with the File - > New menu option, the Windows menu lists all the forms I have just created ammended to it. Now when I create the 2 forms and then immediately select Rename under the Windows menu option, it changes the text of the last child form ok, but then if I click on the first child form that was create and then hit Rename again it doesnt do anything. I tried different methods of strying to set which forms has focux but nothing works.

We've migrated the application from VB 6.0 to VB.Net If more than one MDI child form is open, a mouse click to an inactive form will not bring it to front unless I click on the Tiltlebar.

I have a borderless form displayed as a progress object. This is displayed via childform.show().
I'm overriding CS_DROPSHADOW to give it the shadow (pictured), when the form loses focus (parent clicked or another formapplication) the shadow is lost.
How can I keep the form focusedselected similar to a modal form? (I cannot use showdialog due this being called from various threads other than UI) Using Me.TopMost = True works, but obviously puts the form above all others rather than just the parent.

We have a main form which opens an MDI child form. What we want is to set the focus on a particular control in the child form, namely a telerik textbox. When the form is opened for the first time, the focus is set to the textbox control which has a tabIndex = 1 as expected. If the winodw is closed (and disposed) and then reopened via a button on the tool bar that calls the same code that opens the window when the application starts, no control has focus. We have added lines such as Me.rtxtPatientId.Focus() in the Paint event, load event, and activated event handlers but still cannot get the focus to the control. The code is quite extensive so posting it is difficult. However, here is the section that opens the child window:
if PatientSearchForm Is Nothing Then
PatientSearchForm = New frmPatientLookup
End If
PatientSearchForm.MdiParent = Me
PatientSearchForm.Show()
If PatientSearchForm.WindowState = FormWindowState.Minimized Then
PatientSearchForm.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal
End If
PatientSearchForm.Activate()
PatientSearchForm.rtxtPatientID.Focus()

I have a multiple form project that I have been working off and on for a while now. Recently I started up annother project and realised both programs would work pretty well together. So I combinded both projects into a single solution, but I am still relitively new to VB and I can't figure out how to have the first project launch a form in the other project.

A panel with enabled scrollbars has many buttons. If I push the tabulation key, focus navigates between buttons.When a partially visible button has focus, the panel scrolls itself in order to completely show the button.

After scouring the articles online I have come up with this design for a winforms based touchscreen app that needs smartphone like scrolling. The app itself will run on a tablet laptop or touchscreen desktop.I put everything I want to scroll on a panel. Set autoscroll to true (which will show scrollbars)Now put this whole panel inside a groupbox.Shrink the groupbox until the scrollbars are hidden (visually hidden, not visible = false)
Now the fun part I am stuck at.I think I have to handle the mousedown, mouseup & mousemove on the panel to set the autoscrollposition so that when someone touches the panel and drags, it does it's scroll magic. Please help fill in the few lines of code in below method stubs. The msdn doc on autoscrollposition is very confusing since it returns negative numbers but needs to be set to positive with abs and what not.

So i have a Panel which on Mouse Enter and Mouse Leave i change the visibility of some controls which are docked inside it. Problem is whenever I hover over a control within the panel the Mouse Enter then moves to that indivual control and thus they are made invisible. Is there any way i can make this work without having to code these two events for each control within the panel?

Is there a more efficient/easier way changing the backcolor of a control when it has focus and lost focus? Let's say I've got 10 text boxes. Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

Here is what I've done:1) Created an Excel COM add-in for Excel 20032) Added a NotifyIcon to the Windows taskbar notification area (aka system tray) during ThisAddIn_Startup3) Added a ContextMenuStrip with a ToolStripButton to the NotifyIconWhy is it when I right click on the NotifyIcon, Excel gains focus? If after clicking on the NotifyIcon to display the ContextMenuStrip I choose not select an option on the ContextMenuStrip and instead click back on the Excel window, I get a weird flashing cell in Excel.I've created a video of the problem to help you see what I [url] anyone know how to prevent this? Ideally, I'd like to be able to click back on Excel and only have the ContextMenuStrip close and Excel regain focus.

I have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.
The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.

I have a textbox on a form that when it loses focus it updates other text boxes on the form. But before it updates the other textboxes I check the input value in the textbox lostfocus event if it is undesired I return focus to the the textbox and alert the the user with a msgbox. However where my problem is, is that when the cancel button is clicked I don't care what the input in the textbox is because the changes are being canceled but if the value is undesired the it keeps returning focus to the textbox instead of canceling the changes. Is there a way to see what control was clicked on before or in the lost focus event? Can't seem to figure it out tried enter and leave events but no luck!
So for example something like this...
Code:
Private Sub TextBox1_LostFocus(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.LostFocus
If Control that was clicked <> btnCancel then

My program handles XML files that have certain elements within a root-child node that are identical expect for their inner text value. So while populating my combo box with all of a root-child's child element's names I get like five identical items listed. Which brought about the problem of selecting say the third item and getting the value of the first displayed. So I came up with a loop function that determines if the selected combo box item is preceded by one of the same name, if it is, then it adds +1 to a counter variable and keeps checking farther and farther up the list. Once it loops to an item that doesn't have the same name it exits and it reads the Xth (X = counter mentioned earlier) element's inner text from the file. This works great for elements 1, 3, 4, and 5. But not for 2. A while back when I was focused on this problem I discovered the root of the problem but I was unable to circumvent it. I'll put the loop below so you can see the problem in action instead of trying to follow my verbose explanation:

I'm from denmark and hope I can explain my question for you. This is just a example: I have a panel, let's say panel1 and another panel on that panel (panel2) and so on until for example panel5 - on panel5 I have a button (button1). Now I would like to change button1's backcolor property through code how do I then get access to button1, now it's a child-control on panel5 that is a child control on panel4 etc. ??

I am having problem setting focus on specific cell in my Datagridview1 . On Form1 when clicking on cell 3 in any row, I am callig a Dialog1. However, when done working with it, and closing the Dialog1, the focus returns to cell 3 in my Datagridview1 . I like to set the focus on the next cell(4) making it the current cell.
I have tryed :
DataGridView1.SelectionMode = DataGridViewSelectionMode.CellSelect
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.Item(4, e.RowIndex)
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.CurrentRow.Cells(4)
And few other things, I am always getting this exception: Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function.
