View 2 RepliesI have an application in which i have a database .mdf file in directory which i use a connection string to give a path of to access it, which means without installing sql server i can access database. Connection string below to access this database(.mdf) which placed in the directory.
dim con as sqlconnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLExpress;integrated security=true;attachdbfilename=|DataDirectory|Universal_data.mdf;user instance=true")
Now the question is that if i access this .mdf file without installing sql server, i also want to access to this .mdf file on other computer(client) after creating DSN or any other connectivity tool.
Let me know you that when i install sql server 2000 or 2005 i create SA user name and password which i use to create DSN on client computer and give SA username and password in the connection string that successfully works and client get access to sql server, connection string is below.
Dim serv = "MY-LAPTOP"
dim con as sqlconnection = new sqlconnection("Data Source=" & serv & ";Initial Catalog=clinic;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa")
I only need to know that my application access .mdf file without installing sql server works fine on a single computer, and i want to give access to this .mdf file on other clients without installing sql server on server computer (like i mentioned above paragraph) how will do it.....

methods/procedures for sending real time data from a VB.net app to a web server (asp.net) for real time display. My question relates to the best method to send the data from the desktop app and the best way to receive and handle the data on the server. I'm not asking for sample code, just some idea of what methods to research. I am currently using a text file upload method but I'm sure there is a more efficient way of achieving this.

I have an application that I'm writing that needs to run 3 different Timers. One that will run every 5 minutes, 1 that will run every hour and 1 that has to run once a day sometime after 5:00 P.M. I know that I can seperate the application into 3 seperate applications and use Windows Scheduled Tasks to perform this however I would prefer to have everything in 1 application and just run the different Sub/Functions off of the appropriate Timer. I'm trying also figure out a way to avoid 2 timers firing at the same time.
What i would like to do is tell the 5 minute timer to run say 2 minutes after every 5 minute mark in the our so the first one would be at 12:07 and then the next would be at 12:12 and so on. The hour timer should run sa at 12:20. The daily one run at say 5:31.Is it possible to use the System.timer or the System.Threading.timer in this way?
I'm making a trail and i need to pull the time of a server.

2012-04-23 09:00:00.000
2012-04-23 14:00:00.000
The minutes, seconds, and microseconds are always zero. I need to display a "time slot" (basically, the time plus one hour) like this:
2012/04/23 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM
2012/04/23 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
I got what I needed using this:

I run this command in vb select tuid, finish_time, bay from orders_table where tuid between 1001 and 1005 order by finish_time asc

str "update orders_table set start_time = (10/14/2011 12:20:00 AM) where orders_table.tuid =1006" String
It throws an error saying incorrect syntax near "12" It formatting datetime and I don't want it to... how can i fix it so it looks like this

I'm trying to create an auction site using asp.net. My auction's start date & time and end date & time are stored in my sql server 2008 r2 database as datetime types. I'm using vb.net. I'm trying to create a select statement in which I can query the date and time portion relative to the current date and time (so as to only display current ongoing auctions). I can successfully query the date portion using the Date. Now function, but the time is giving me a hassle. DateAndTime. Now doesn't work. I've even tried to separate the time and date in the database, but I still can't get an effective query. Here are two examples of code which I've tried:

I have created a vb.net application that uses a SQL Server database at a remote location over the internet. There are 10 vb.net clients that are working on the same time. The problem is in the delay time that happens when inserting a new row or retrieving rows from the database, the form appears to be freezing for a while when it deals with the database, I don't want to use a background worker to overcome the freeze problem.I want to eliminate that delay time and decrease it as much as possible?
View 3 RepliesIs there any way to download multiple files at the same time from a remote server? How I am doing it currently is I get a list of files from the target folder on the server then I loop through that list & download each file 1 at a time. For 100 small files it takes about 45 seconds. I'm guessing that the bulk of the time it takes is logging in to the server for each file to download, so 100 files means it has to login, download & logoff 100 times. Is it possible to login just once, download the 100 files then logout?
