Note: I am using the Textbox to read and write text?
Using VB 2008r 2010 is there somehow I could make a syntax highlighter such as Notepad++?But maybe more simpler for only HTML, PHP and CSS? Or is there a plug-in or something you can download and add in your app?

Option strict is almost always on for me, because I like to know how the conversions are with my application to reduce any conversion conflictions as well.
Here's my current code so far where rtb1 is the main editor, and rtb2 is the line display on the left side like in notepad++. So far my code allows for a number to be added on a new line in the line display when the enter key is pressed, however I want to know how I can get rid of those numbers whenever a backspace or deleted selection of text or the delete key erases a {vbLf} entry in rtb1 so that I can remove the integers on the left side accordingly to keep up with an accurate line count display. Also adding the number of "lines" (as integers/numbers) to that left hand display depending on how many {vbLf} entries there are in a pasted clipboard.Then that should cover everything about the line display, except for loading a document and automatically displaying the number of lines in the text. I believe i'd have to count the number of occurences of {vbLf} upon opening a document, but I haven't tried yet, so i'm not sure how slow or fast that would render opening a document.

In that form, I show people another form which has a richtextbox.
All I need to know is how would I allow people to print the text in richtextbox and also how to save the text in the richtextbox as a txt file.
I am trying to create a tool which I would input a word in a text box and it would search the path i give it to look for a word in a notepad file and copy the whole line to a new notepad and paste it.
i did this for now, i am able but i am able to copy all the text from the note pad and put it in a textbox for now..

The project I'm developing at the moment requires RTF (rich text format) support and a full WUSIYUG editor, however I am very short on time so I'd like to consider an alternative. Instead of designing a new interface and creating buttons and toolbars and everything from scratch, I'd like to use WordPad to create the RTF documents and a RichTextBox to show them in-application.My idea was as follows:When the user needs to create a new document (once the document has been created, it will remain read-only), the application would launch WordPad via Process.Start and then it will wait until it exits. I think I can manage it up to here.Next, the user would save the file and the file's location should be sent to the application. If possible, I'd like to be able to retrieve the saved file's location automatically via code, or at least choose the preferred path (the directory which appears first when you save a file).
If retrieval of the saved file's location is not possible, then I was considering using SetCurrentDirectory to set the preferred path to a certain folder, instructing the user to save the file there under any name and then comparing the files in that folder with a previously created list to see which file was added. For obvious reasons, I'd prefer this method to stay a last resort
With the different screen resolutions out there, how do the rulers in WordPad, OpenOffice.org Writer, Microsoft Word, etc. assure exact inches in printing?

source code above is a part of my wordpad's source code. in my wordpad,why SAVE menu(SaveToolStripMenu) is function like a SAVE AS menu?
for example:i save a RTF file in my PC.and then i open it with my wordpad and edit that file.when i click SAVE menu,why this wordpad command me to save this file?I think this file is saved before.
I have a subroutine that needs to accomplish the following things:
1. Open wordpad (wordpad.exe) - so the user can see the file being written to for printing purposes.
2. Create wordpad file (Sample.wri)
3. Write various text to Sample.wri (in the wordpad window that opened) using Streamwriter. Again, this is for printing purposes.
The code below is the start of the subroutine. As it is written, Wordpad does start, and Sample.wri is created. But the streamwriter DOES NOT write the "does this work?" text to the file created, nor does it display in the window that opened when wordpad process started. I'm new to using streamwriter so I'm sure I've overlooked something simple. The start of my subroutine is below:

View 1 RepliesI have a question regarding waiting for closing a window or changing focus back to my app. What i have is an app that creates a few tables, that then puts the tables into a temp file that wordpad opens for the user to check they are correct, this is where i need help, i would like to now wordpad is open wait until the user closes wordpad or changes the focus away from wordpad until i open the next form which is responsible for using the tables and converting them into xml.

View 4 Repliesis it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities.The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?

This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

I have been trying to reference Application.ThreadException in my application to make an addhandler, but I also am using imports growl.connector which has a growl.connector.application method. When I create my addhandler:AddHandler Application.ThreadException, AddressOf ThreadExceptionHandler
And I get "ThreadExecption is not an event of 'growl.connector.application'"
