Reference Application.ThreadException In Application To Make An Addhandler?
Mar 22, 2011
I have been trying to reference Application.ThreadException in my application to make an addhandler, but I also am using imports growl.connector which has a growl.connector.application method. When I create my addhandler:AddHandler Application.ThreadException, AddressOf ThreadExceptionHandler
And I get "ThreadExecption is not an event of 'growl.connector.application'"
I have an Unhandled Exception handler that does something like this[code]...
So it looks like from the "add" that the last person that subscribes to Application.ThreadException is the one who gets it (it's not additive as most event handlers are). I don't want to give up my subscription to this eventhandler no matter what. Can anyone think of a way that I could track when I lose my subscription to the Application.ThreadException so I can steal it back from whoever stole it from me?
I have ran into a slight problem and I have not met this issue before today. If I create a Form at run-time with a Button on one Form using a LinearGradientBrushhow can I make the Form maintain the gradient when it is Maximized for every Form that is generated?urrently, if you create 2 Forms using the code below, select the 1st Form created and Maximize it, you will see the problem. This problem does not exst for the currently generated Form however. :-)Would I need to maintain parallel Lists Of Forms or / and LinearGradientBrushes or / and ClientRectangles?
Option Strict On Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D Public Class Form1
My problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.
Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.
is it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities. The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?
I have an ASP.NET page with code-behind in VB.NET. On the ASPX page I have a Repeater with an asp:ImageButton inside the repeater and I want to catch the clicks on the button. As far as I read I have to use FindControl and then handle the copy of the original control:
Not sure what to call this, but I have a number of dataseries that are being updated through an API connection. My form has charts that shall display the data, and I want the charts to subscribe to the update events raised by each data series. So I need the form class (or one of its member objects) to send a request to the BLL. But I don't want it to dig into the tree structure of my BLL by get to the desired data series. So.. I guess I must either send my chart object as just a "type Object" down to the BLL, to add the handler.. Or, I must request an anonymous object of the dataseries event to be sent to the form class? Am I on to something here? What to prefer? And how do I actually do this stuff?
Also it's a question what to add the handler to? I try to refactor my code as much as possible, so I try to make type of "Manager objects", like for example instead of adding chart object directly in my form class, I make a ChartManager class that the main form has a single object instance of. Then this manager has a list of chart objects etc.. This is like a UI logic layer, and will take a reference to the mainBLL object instance from the Main form class. I guess it's proper to add the handler directly to the low level ZgChart object...
I use SetParent to make an external application a "child" of my Main .Net application. This works fine. What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)
I am making a exe application and i am using mysql as my database. So the thing is, when i change to a new computer, i need to change the file path for the database connection string to that computer.
like below:
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=----------SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=Flexlink;" & "Integrated Security=SSPI;"
i need to change the data source = --------------- SQLEXPRESS to the computer name that i am using for my project.
May i ask is there any method such that the user dont have to go in to the source code to change the computer's name like those normal installer?
Just install and the application will run according like any exe file that we buy.
Okay so basically I want to see if I can make an windows application or just a console application in VB.NET that will verify an MD5 Checksum. I have no idea how to start this out, but I have the ideas of what I'd like to make it.
Let me know a way to troubleshoot the problem -'The proxy settings on this computer are not configured correctly for web discovery', when i'm trying to add a web reference in my vb.net application,
I am attempting to add and call a PHP Web Service from my .Net web application.I try adding the reference like in this tutorial but receive this error.
The HTML document does not contain Web service discovery information.
I see the methods to call into. I ran svcutil and it returned some metadata and the same error. I also tried wsdl.exe and got that same error. I am having trouble understanding whats the best way to go forward.[code]...
I'm using VB 2008, and I have a dual core computer. Is it possible to make a code that sends one application or program in 1 core, and other application in the other core?
In a VB.Net project, you can use the Settings tab of the properties page to define application settings. To reference the settings in code, you use the syntax My.Settings.SettingName in VB.
On the Settings tab, you get to choose the Access Modifier. It may be "Friend" or "Public". Presumably, when you choose "Public", you are making the settings accessible to other assemblies. However, once "Public" is chosen, I can't figure out the syntax to reference the settings of one project from another. In fact, I can't observe any difference between using "Internal" vs. "Public" as the access modifier.
My question: Does choosing "Public" as the access modifier make settings accessible to other assemblies? If so, what is the syntax to reference the settings from other assemblies? If not, what does "Public" do?
I have handle of a usercontrol on external application in vb.net.I know class type of that user control.I want to get refrence to that object to check some properties of that object
I'm writing a windows form application in VS2008 using VB. I have a text script file needs to be deployed together with my application. How do I reference this file when coding and how to deploy it using windows installer? A similar question, how do I reference the installation folder of my application?
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {40942A6C-1520-4132-BDF8-DC1F71F547B} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).How can I retrieve MODI reference from COM in my application ? I am successfully using a dll reference in VB.NET project. When I export the application to another PC by using a deployment setup, the application does not start at all. I have included the dll file inside the deployment setup so that this file is copied in the application folder. If I remove the dll file from the deployment setup, the application starts normally.I was wondering how I should set the properties of the reference in the .Net project. I am attaching a view of the references dialog where the used reference is highlighted.
Today I was build one Windows Service Application which has the reference to 4 Dll. After building the Release I found that there was one more DLL in addition to the reference I have. I checked using ILDASM and it only showed 4 dlls. What could be the issue ? How I can I check why it is getting unwanted DLL's in Release Folder?
Im trying to write a simple c++ dll and then reference it in my vb form app however im having a hell of a time doing so. but im getting an error when i call the c++ function in vb.net

I created a new project of type Windows Forms Application. And following a few posts elsewhere in order to implement spell checking on my application I attempting to add references to: PresentationCore.dll, PresentationFramework.dll, WindowsBase.dll, WindowsFormsIntegration.dll
BUT... when i go to add then they're grayed out and unselectable.
Can someone tell me why (i can't add the refs) and what I need to do to implement spell checking in a windows app?
Late Addition: I started out by copying the DLLs into the bin (after searching vs & .net installation folders) of a VS2005 project and that worked. I guess I can do the same here but I figure VS2008 should have this built in and I SHOULDN'T need to use the method.
I am developing an application that dumps data to an excel file with charts. The problem I'm seeing is that some of the users may not be using Office 2007 and are still using Office 2003. Is there a way I can make my app work with either version?I tried to add a reference to Office11 after I've already added Office12 and it says that Microsoft.Office.Core is already referenced (through Office12, of course).
One thing I haven't tried yet is just referencing Office11 instead of 12. Maybe that would with some backwards compatability on Office12's part? I'm not sure and am not with the code right now to try it out.
I'm using loop to read data from sql and then make some calculations then save it again to another table but when application loop for 3 or 4 times it's freeze but the job is done but if loop = 10 or more then it is freeze and hangup for long time .i need to learn how to make my application working better and never freeze and make application working with any count for loop without freeze .
i had to get the reference of an object/Control(for e.x a textbox) which is open in another .net application. I was able to retrieve the handle of that .net applcation form. but i was not able to obtain the reference of that form. I tried to using control.FromHandle(handle) function. but it returns a null for the handle i passed since the handle is not associated to the application I am running.I also tried to add the handle to my application with the following code.
Dim nw As New NativeWindow nw.AssignHandle(&H100300A) '&H100300A is a valid windows handle for an application which is open Dim c As Control = Control.FromHandle(nw.Handle)but c returned nothing. Is there any way using which i can get the reference of an object in another .net appliction from my application.
I have the following code under a button labeled "Exit" for exiting my application. Code:Application.Exit()It has been working fine. I added a reference to System.Deployment and the compiler suddenly doesn't like Application.Exit(). Can I not use Application.Exit() and have a ref to System.Deployment at the same time? Upate: I got it. I used the Object Browser and found "System.Windows.Forms.Application.Exit" which works with System.Deployment referenced
