View 4 RepliesPicture 1 shows an application that I am currently writing that uses the LineShape and OvalShape out of the Visual Basic Power Packs. As I change the index in the part number combo box the A, B & C dimension change to suit the dimension in the text boxes.
Problem is the limited shapes are fine to draw a router template guide, but they are somewhat limited when it comes to drawing more complex shapes like the router bits that make the shapes in Picture 2. Is there a graphic class that would allow me to plot points and joint the dots like you get in kids colouring in books? Or something a little more adept to complex shapes like curves?
I just spotted something called the Pen Class that I might need to look more into, but not knowing the first thing about graphics. Spotted some advice passel gave in another thread to search vb.net gdi+ tutorial and it looks like the Pen Class might have potential, although I am going to have to revisit some math by the looks of things.
I'm trying to calculate the direction between two points on a two-dimensional grid. Actually I want to determine if that vector is within a range of two values. Suppose the grid's origin is 0,0 at the upper left corner, and 0 degrees represents north. I have a point A on that grid. I want to know if a line from point A to point B on the grid is within a range of directions between 111.8 degrees (a little south of east) and 158.2 (a little east of south). Those are approximations; the 111.8 is 90 degrees plus the arctangent of 2/5, and 158.2 is 180 minus that value. I worked out a series of calculations worthy of a medieval astronomer, but I suspect there is a simpler way. I'm going to have to do this for a variety of other vectors, and I'd like to generalize
View 4 RepliesThe below photo shows that point 4 is connected to point 1 while point 5 is not connected to point 1 according to the flow direction. How can I programme this?

I was wondering if there's a way to add points to something defined like this

find the angle between two points: Point(0,0) and Point2(26,79)
View 10 RepliesI'm sure some of you know the equation to get the distance of 2 points on a coordinate grid, and I'm making a program to do just that, the only problem is that when I use the square root function it doesn't return an exact number, what's wrong with my code?[code]...

I am trying to solve this problem since many days. The problem seems to be rather mathematical, but I faced difficulties dealing with Grids and how to store them using visual basic.

In my problem, I have a world of 200 x 200 units divided into 4 x 4 grids (Each of 50 units).
There is a line crosses some areas has the coordinates of Point A (Starting Point) of (XA = 12.43, BA = 159.48) and Point B coordinates (Ending Point) of (XB = 112.95, YB = 20.95).
The question is, how can find the length of (A to C1), (C1 to C2), (C2 to C3), (C3 to C4), (C4 to C5) and finally (C5 to B)?
In addition, how can I indicate the square in which the line is inside?
note that the method should work for all conditions (-ve and +ve line slopes) and for different A and coordinates.
I am using VS2005 vb. I have two textboxes and one grid with two columns. I want to populate the grid values to text box while clicking the exact row?
View 1 RepliesI'm drawing a rectangle snapped to a grid by getting the start point(Mouse down e.location) and the end point(mouseup(e.location). The coding I'm having trouble with is having the program determine which way to draw the rectangle(where the location should be, and the height and width.) Now, this would be extremely simple if the user started their rectangle from the top left corner and ended it in the bottom right every time. But you need to be able to drag from all angles. So does anyone have some code lying around that I could look at so I could actually get my rectangles drawn right?
View 5 RepliesTrying to understand the basics of grid design so how would I make a over sized grid or a grid larger then whats viewable on my screen resolution? Below is a simple chart describeing what i want to make roughly. I would like to build the grid in "blocks".[URL]..

View 5 RepliesHow do I make a label add points?In other words I have a label with the text of "0" If I click a certain button I want the label to become "1" displaying that as the amount of points.If I click another button that gives 2 points I would want the label to change to "3".Get it? Hope I was clear.
If TextBox1.Text = "Blah Blah Blah" Then
TextBox1.Text = "Generate a New Code - Points + 2"
Label2.Text = +2

I want someone to help me on using graphics on vb.net form.I am planing to make a clock so first i want to draw 12 points in a circular fashion.

View 2 Repliesi am using an unbound datagridview so i can dynamiclly add rows. all that is working fine. but the grid is not is the location i have coded.. i am using the defualt form as a base then coding the unbound stuff in.. should i just create a blank class file and do everything? the only problem i am having is the grid must bees in the correct location according to the pixel point that i have given it. Right now it is placing the grid at point (0,0) no matter what point is entered on the line for location. so what am i missing??????
View 3 Replieslook at this picture of my index form. It's resized, now you can't see the full labels text.
Example: under the first cover, there stands "Hardbass Chapter" and accetly it is "Hardbass Chapter
21 (2011)". It's not a problem that a peace cut off, but, I want to make that clear to the users,
with adding some points.
I would like to make a Settings Field (SKey) to point to a constant (Q)
Where the Settings Value will be modified by the user using Text box and public const Q = keys.Q so I can let the user modify a hotkey to what ever he wants I wished to use the following code for registering the Hotkey
Public Const Q = Keys.Q 'My.Settings.SKey should points to this variable
'There will be more constants for other keys
RegisterHotKey(Me.Handle, 1, HCtrl + HAlt, My.Settings.SKey)
the problem is:
the program use MY.settings.SKey as String and I cannot define it as integer where the input is a text
I hve been working with points a lot recently, and I have been wondering if there is a way to set a point without setting point.x and point.y separately. For example for (3, 5): Point1 = (3, 5) But that isn't right
View 4 RepliesI've come across a very basic problem which I'm sure has a basic answer.Forgive me but I haven't programmed in years and this just a hobby of mine..My problem is that I need a drawn object (say an ellipse) to move to the cursors location when I click. Imagine an adventure quest style game where you view your character in birds eye view, and it moves according to where you click on the map.I can draw the image fine, and move the image around fine - it's more so the formula I'm using which I'm a little stumped on.I have certain requirements though.
1. I need a timer that constantly updates the drawn object's (lets say character from now on) location. Each tick will essentially be the character taking 1 step towards the cursor's location.2. At the end of each tick of the timer, it'll will invalidate the form/control to invoke the paint event, and of course, the objects location will be be updated.It sounded simple enough to create a linear equation based on the objects original location and the location of the cursor when I click.However, that will not give it a fixed speed.If say for example, the gradient (rise/run) between the cursor location and objects location is very steep, the object's y-velocity will be greater than that of the x-velocity

I would like to know how to make the point of origin where the two black lines meet, because my game is a coordinates game. I will be converting entered numbers into coordinates on the grid. Another problem is that the point of origin will change, if the person chooses hard difficulty.I can provide more code if necessary

I'm trying to work out how i can make my multithreaded app stop at a certain point and wait for the user to type something into a text box and click ok. It must then carry on and when a different thread gets to that point it stops again and waits for the user to input some text again.
