Making An Onscreen Keyboard Load Faster?
Oct 5, 2011
For a touchscreen oriented application, i have an onscreen keyboard that can operated by both the hardware keyboard, or via touchscreen/mouse. The user needs this keyboard a lot, but. Because it has so much buttons, it loads really slow and takes about a second to finally display.
My Onscreen keyboard is of type dialog, and its background is set to the transparency key. Once the form is there it works really well. the problem is the 1 second loading time, this can be pretty frustrating when you need to edit like 20 things. Is there any way to preload the keyboard dialog and make it popup instantly?

I think I have a problem with the FOCUS.As you can see, the "Windows onscreen keyboard" is always on top. This doesn't happen to my form. How can I do?

I have a field in the database that is XML because it represents a class that is used in C#/VB.Net. Problem is after the initial manipulation most, but not all, of themanipulation is done in SQL Server. This means that the XML field is converted on the fly.As we are getting more fields and more records, this operation is getting slow. I think the slow down is the converting all of those fields to other data types. So to speed it up I was thinking of a couple of ways:Have a set of tables that represent the different pieces of the XML data. I would make these tables read only using a trigger on Insert/Update that would reject any changes. My 'main' table with the XML in it when it updates the XML would turn off the triggers, update the tables with the new values then turn the triggers back on.
The only real reason we use the XML is because it's really easy to convert it to the class in C#/VB.Net. But I'm getting the point where I may end up writing a routine that will take all the bits and pieces and convert it to a class and also a function to go the other way (class -> tables).

OK, I've been searching for hours trying to find the best way to fill a listview from a comma delimited file but have come up empty handed so far. Currently I am using code I found on the NET, which works, but it is EXTREMELY slow. As a test, I created a file with 5,000 rows, and 10 columns. The column layout is as follows:123,NAME,NAME,NAME,NAME,0.00,NAME,YEAR,NAME,1
Dim ofd As New StreamReader(".dataCardData.bct")
Try
Using reader As New Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.TextFieldParser(".dataCardData.bct")
reader.TextFieldType = FileIO.FieldType.Delimited
reader.SetDelimiters(",")
[Code]...
The code I am currently using appears to be loading the file and somewhat simultaneously filling the listview at the same time. I feel that I should load the entire file into an array or arraylist and the send the array or arraylist to the listview. However, if this is the best way to do it, I have not been able to find any examples of how to do this.

I have a few subs that run under Webbrowser1.document completed section of my app I know the code words because I tried it out using a new project and tied the code to a button and it works great. After stepping into my code during run time it appears that the app is trying to call my sub before the next page appears. What would be the way to place a pause on the Thread so that the web page can catch up before running the next sub?

I was just wondering I heard you can get an on-screen help system, a friend said you can change this in the settings or whatever and when running your application you hit F10 or another key and it will come up with an on-screen help system.

Here is the code for my program. We are making a membership list and it needs to load with just the names in the txt file that is in the debug bin. The txt file is set up in one column and holds the member name and the next line is member number and so on. Information is read into an "array of structures" and the display is supposed to be ONLY the names in the listbox on load. This is my problem. I had it displaying all th txt file info and I just need the names. I tried what you will see in the code but it is not working and my book is less then helpful when it comes to examples and/or knowledge on the subject. Though it could be too many hours spent trying to get it to work.
Imports System.IO
Public Class frmMemberList
Structure Members
Dim member As String
Dim number As Integer
End Structure

I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)
Here is an image of one of many MPCs but one with a directory - [URL]

You'd think both are the same. But maybe it's the compiler that Microsoft has used, but I've noticed that when compiling two very small programs, identical logic. VB.NET uses more IL instructions. Is it true than that c# must be faster, if only because its compiler is smarter.

A long time a agp I settled into a listview as an indicating device. I do not use pictorial modes or graphics. Just listing and multicolumn listing.I am also a performance bug and I have written realtime monitors for monitoring cpu activity in real-time and normally rum them starting at bootime. Lately I have found that the listview throws away time. In a tight loop, the list view does not take all cpu time available and the listview is relatively slow.
Does anyone know of a control like the list views only it's faster? Multi-colored and multi-columned are musts.

My co-worker said that in a previous interview, he learned that foreach is faster in VB.Net than c#'s foreach. He was told that this was because both have different CLR implementation.
Coming from a C++ perspective, I'm curious on why this is and I was told that I need to read up on CLR first. Googling foreach and CLR doesn't help me understand.
Does anyone have a good explanation on why foreach is faster in VB.Net than in c#? Or was my co-worker misinformed?

I have a directory with more then 350.000 files in. I need to process every single file and move them to an other folder. When I use the dir() method it takes a few seconds before if it returns the first file found.
dim foundfile as string = dir("d:")
In the documentation there is this:
"The My.Computer.FileSystem Object gives you greater productivity and performance in file I/O operations than the Dir function. See My.Computer.FileSystem.GetDirectoryInfo Method for more information."
But I can't find any method that is faster then dir, and gives the same result. I can't use this method below because it takes for ever to load......
For Each foundFile As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("D:")
Next
It just does not work fast...
When I use the Dir() method it takes like 5 sec, and it uses 100% cpu... it is just not a option. How do I get the same function as the dir method but better performance? (I use visual basic 2008).

I create a CSV file by getting a datatable then looping through that datatable and writing eachline of a CSV file. My data source usually has around 65,000 rows in it. This process takes several minutes to download from the browser. The problem is that locally and on dev it doesn't take too long, but on the client they usually timeout.
Is there a faster way to generate this file?
Function GenerateCSVFile() As String
Dim stuPro As New studentProvider.StudentProvider
Dim emailCenter As New EmailCenter

I'm converting a process from VB 6.0 to VB .Net. The process copies a table from one database table to another database. In many cases they are not linked so a "Select * into Table2 from Table1" is not a solution. Also the source table may be a temporary global table that has a unique structure. The current process reads the source table into an ADODB recordset, obtains the columns attributes to create a new table, creates the new table, builds insert statements from the source table, and then inserts the rows into the new table. I'd like to take advantage of any .Net features that may be more efficient than that. Can anyone point me in the right Direction?

Im using RichTextBox from Visual Studio 2008 to show various RTF content and it is slow. I mean really slow. Is there any way to improve the loading speeds of LoadFile function?I tried to load directly from memorystream (without saving file to disk) but it's still slow.I read plenty info about how RichTextBox is slow and all. Has there been any improvements in Visual Studio 2010?
