I am experimenting with CUSTOM CONTROLS for the very first time. What I did so far: I've created a new Windows Control Library project. In there I simply resized the custom control area (made it very wide and only 50 high). I added a pictureBox on the very left, a Label1 with Large text on the right and 2 other labels underneath Label1 on the left and right.Further I've set MOUSE HOVER effects, "Yellow" for MoudeEnter and "White" for MouseLeave.
In a Windows Form application I add this control over and over again into a Panel1 (DockStyle TOP) for each jpg file found in "My Pictures". The PictureBox in My custom control has the Thumbnail of the real picture, the Label1 shows the name of the file.
All this worked out better than I expected for my very first CUSTOM CONTROL, however, there is still 1 thing I would like it to do: being 'selected' when I click on one of the CUSTOM CONTROLS in my Panel1. Does anyone know how to do that? If I set a BackGroundColor change on MouseClick in my custom control, then it surely would change the color, however, it would stay that way even if I click on the next custom control in my Panel1 .(Listing SPEC's is not a review !
I am trying to create a Messagebox/dialogbox that will allow me you Define the Prompt and the text for the two buttons. I started by looking around the internet and found [URL]. It got me started But i don't think i have the libraries to make the stackoverflow.com code work. i don't know enought about events to make the box always have the focus untill it is closed or one of the buttons is pressed. I've created my own ascx control with button inside it. Now I'm using this control inside other control. (In my case it is a webpart). What I would like to do is program button.click logic from my custom control inside webpart
make a click event for a non existing control but for example: when the end user clicks the new button(or something else) a new text box pops up with a button on the same form and when the button is clicked I want the form to open another window(or something else). I want a context menu strip to have 4 specific items. For testing purposes, we call them Item1, Item2, Item3, and Item4.I've set up a context menu strip like this, and I am using it for about 20 different controls. I want these four items to do different things based on what control the user right clicks. The only way I could think of doing this, was to make 20 context menu strips and create a click event for each item. This obviously, seems like a really bad way of doing it.Does anyone have any suggestions or another way of making the click events for the individual Items based on what control is right clicked?

With VB.net, I'm coding a simple application to get more used to the new .Net format.
I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file

I was thinking of making a custom skin for my application. I looked into Aero like application like this one. But wait a problem it will not work on XP So my question is do you know were i can get free and good looking GUI. Or can i make the aero work some how on XP.

I'd like to make a custom control that allows the end user to format the text, similar to an HTML or RichText control. The idea is that it will be static like a label, but allow end user to specify certain tags around words to make them bold, italic, underline, hyperlink, etc, either at design time or runtime. My question more specifically is how to best approach this. My intention is to use GDI+ methods, like DrawString, etc. But my concern is the inefficiency of having to parse the text each Paint cycle to determine which tags are present in order to use the correct font style, etc. I'm not really asking HOW to do this, but more of a hint on which architectural approach to take on this. Maybe there is already some examples of this out there?
I am using custom textboxes and I need to be able to set the Text on txb1 based on the Text of txb2. I have simplied my code to the following:

So, when txb1 looses focus, if its Text is "fried", then it sets off txb2's ProcessAlert function. I had tried to change the value of txb2 Text in ProcessAlert function, but didnt work, so I tried to get it to raise an event instead, which then tries to set the Text property. However I still cant set txb2's Text property. The Text property seems to be set for the duration of the "life" of the Event handler. When I step through the forms controls within the Event handler, the changed Text value is there, but not outside of the Event handler.
I found this piece of code in a Youtube video, that used it to save a file via a normal save dialog, all i intented to do was remove the dialog and simply save the file with no warning.
The problem now is that it says that the "Hula" String is not a part of a string, and im kinda lost.

I have a vb.net application that uses Flash movies (AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash). I have buttons in the flash movie. When they first start using the application, they can single click on the buttons in the flash movie and button responds accordingly. But after a while (and I haven't been able to pin-point an exact thing that changes it or my issue would be solved), the user has to double-click on the button in the flash movie for them to work.
I want to create a server control that inherits System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button but gives it special capability, now what do i mean? i want my button to be a confiorm button that will work like so:
Renders to the page as a button of lets say cancel after the user clicks it i want to catch the click event (within the server control) and now after the click makeing the button not visible and makeing some kind of content placeholder (that will render from the server control) visible. that content place holder will have 2 buttons inside of it: yes and cancel. I want the programmer that adds this control to be able to register a function to the click event of the yes button. and the second cancel confirmation button should make the first button appear agian. (i know how to do this all in the client side but this time i need it all as server events)

We have a ASP.NET web application written in VB.NET where we build content programmatically during the Init event.We make extensive use of user controls, building them on the fly, and I now want to start including SilverLight content.Is there an easy way of embedding a SilverLight application in a control, and then instantiating the whole thing in code, in the same way as you'd programmatically add ordinary ASP.NET controls to a page?The SilverLight component itself works fine when added to a page using the <object> tag but I really want to be able to reuse it elsewhere in code.Since I'm expecting use of SilverLight to increase in our application, and the asp:Silverlight control seems now to be deprecated, I'm looking for an alternative way of wrapping the content.
What I've done is create a User Control Library (Project) and I've added a single User Control to that project. The control contains a single FlowLayoutPanel, and I created a Property on the control itself to pass the FlowDirection from the Control to its FlowLayoutPanel child.
Build, reference, component appears in the Toolbox and everything works fine, but the property on the control does not appear in the Properties window when I go to edit it at design time.
