While Open a form I got this message
An error occurred creating the form.
See Exception.InnerException for details.
The error is: Object is currently in use elsewhere.
But after a few second form is Open. I do nothing.
How I Can open the same form in my application one time only can not open the form tow time in same time

I am trying to get information to be pulled out of a database and show in text boxes on another form (frmviewsdets). The error occurs when it gets to the line frmviewsdets.txtsnumber.Text = rdr("StudentNumber") and even when a breakpoint is applied there it just moves on to the next and so on.
I have tried to show frmviewsdets before I pull the data out of the database beut I get the same message.
I have a solution with several Projects in it. There is a Windows App project (called ImportClient), and a Class Library (Import.Library). The Import.Library has functions to perform data imports (I have other applications in the solution that also need to call it). But the interactive application, I want to be able to pass in some form controls, and have it update the GUI. No problem. But, I also want to execute a DoEvents() so that the loop execution doesn't hang other interaction to the app.
So, ImportClient has a reference to Import.Library. But I can't add a reference to ImportClient to the Import.Library, because the compiler complains about circular reference, etc. I don't know how else to define the My.Application object of ImportClient as a parameter to the data function in ImportLibrary.
(I realize this is a dumb question - problem is, for this project I have a tight timeline, and haven't learned how to do the BackgroundWorker process. If you think I could pick it up quickly, I'm open to some hints about how to update the progress bar on the GUI, and how to pause / cancel the background task.)
I'm try on Ultimate version and Express version. Reinstall many time from web install and offline install. What should I do ?

At this point, objfrmExample is now instantiated, even though I've not done a "objfrmExpample = new [what-goes-here?] " and I'm curious as to why.I could possibly guess that because you cannot instantiate an interface variable, then vb.net automatically creates an instance. But thats just a guess. The question is , what is meant by declaring a variable of type Interface, and how does it work?

Im trying to take fields from a Products Table and populate a listbox in a userform with the productName field. that works fine. but i also have to open the recordset and the connection. when i run the program, i get an error saying the 'operation is not allowed when the object is open' then it highlghts the bolded line in the following code:

I do not know why, but as of late every time I open up a project in Vb it gives me something called an object browser. I try to find my forms so I can work on my program, but I can't find them. I have mdi application, on main form which is mdi container and has a tree view. i open the child form on afterselect even of treeview. the issue i'm facing that i open the form but focus remain on tree view until i click on the the form. my question is how i can give focus to form rather it stays on treeview. i tried frm.focus also activatemdichild(frm) no sucess.
View 21 RepliesMy problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.
When I open my child form,
frm_Analogs.ShowDialog()
It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
I have a MDI Parent form created with a MenuList, I also have the MDI child form created.ow do I go about using the MenuList to open the MDI child form within the parent form?

I have a date selector on mdi parent that updates a property when date is changed. When I open a child form, it grabs the property just fine. However if I change the date again after the child is open the date does not change on the child unless I close and reopen the form as expected. What would be the best way to automatically update all open child forms when the date is changed on the parent at anytime? running a timer to parse the date property is impractical.

I know how to do that in VBA in Access 2007, but I am having trouble comprehending the procedure for VB 2010.
If you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:

Or like this:

I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?

This was a guess, after looking at the Form.ShowDialog method in reflector.My question is, is there a managed call I can make to acheive the same result, and what does a button click do that other clicks don't?
ETA: The problem does not occur if I open the form using a key.
disable the parent window form as soon as the user will open the child form....
for eg...consider daniweb...when we click on member login the background form gets grayed out....
Disabling the form is not the option cause it will just disable all the controls of the form....but I need a grayed out screen between the current child form and the parent form....
note - the parent form is not the MDI form...it is just a normal window form and when the child form is open and if the user clicks on the main form without closing the child form then the screen should show some movement...
I tried disabling the form...changing the background of the form to opaque....but could not get through it....
I have read a lot of the prior questions/answers on this topic but it only took me so far. I have a solution to which I added 2 additional programs. These 2 added programs in essence create a PDF2TIFF converter using GS. I wish to call that form and use it as a utility from my main program. After reading other answers in the forum, I added these two programs as references in the main program and imported everything available, into the main program. I have what seems to be a correct build order set up. I want to open the form in the utility project(s) from a link on my main form. I tried a few things but the only way I could write the code without errors was to instantiate the second program then call that with a button click.

I've got a pretty general question about the best practice in passing an object reference to a Form in VB.NET. My form is a dialog and I've created an overload ShowDialog method, where I pass an Object into it ByRef.
The trouble is, I want to be able to refer to that Object throughout my dialog Class and not just in the ShowDialog method. For instance, some of my Events for controls on the form, need to reference that object.
I know I could create a local Private variable in the Class and assign it to the passed value, and then use that value. However I'm thinking this isn't very efficient because it would (I believe) create a new copy of the Object (which is a complex, large class in itself).
What I want is -
