.net - CommandLine Automation - VS2005 Team Edition?

Apr 30, 2009

I am trying to automate VC++ build via an addIn written using VB.NEt so that we can schedule it using a simple batch file. This addin performs some custom pre-requisites before the build is started. The build is invoked as devenv.com /useenv %NEWSOLFILE% /CLEAN %BUILDCONFIG% /OUT %OUTLOGFILE% > nul

with appropriate filename substitutions. I am facing problem in the following entry-point:-

Office Automation :: Closing/Quitting Excel From Visual Studio Application

Jul 13, 2010

I am using visual studio to create an application that opens an excel file and then for each entry in the first column the entry in the second column is stored in an array. Then excel opens two other workbooks and for each entry in the first column it searches for a match in these other two workbooks and stores the corresponding value in an array.

Anyway, the problem is closing excel afterwards. I have used the thread: [URL] to work through the basics of cleaning up. I used the cleanup code provided and added the WithEvents caveat. I do not have strict option on.

I believe the problem is the fact that I have three workbooks open.

This is my cleanup code: (wrkbk, wrkbk2, wrkbk3 are the workbooks; datasheet, datasheet2, datasheet 3 are the worksheets; excel is the application)

Code:
GC.Collect()
GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers()
GC.Collect()

[Code]....

I got the impression that order was important in the cleanup procedure so I have tried some variations of moving the workbooks and worksheets around.

Office Automation :: Excel 2003 Automation With VB 2005 Express?

Apr 20, 2010

Ok basically what I need to do is the following:Read FirstExcelDoc (attached)For every row in that: Retrieve data from sql server db based on info in the Orange columns of FirstExcelDoc Let's say I retrieved data elements A, B, C, D, and E from sql server. Then I need to enter those same data elements A, B, and C in another excel spreadsheet (which has formulas etc) After inputing A, B, and C in that spreadsheet, read a couple of calculated fields and compare those results to data elements D and E retrieved originally from SQL Server DB. Finally, output the results in the Blue columns of the FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet for that row.Loop through and do the same thing for row 2 of the FirstExcelDoc and keep on until you see "END TEST" in the FirstExcelDoc.

I'm looking for a method of doing this efficiently. I have read several articles over the past few days as well as those from Mike R. but just need some direction to get started on this.To start of I'm looking for whether to read the entire FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet or just read the info for first policy number(2nd row) and process it and write out the blue column info for that row and then loop through and come back and read the second policy number (3rd row) etc... Please attach a code snippet for either way of reading the data.

T4MVC VB With Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition

Nov 28, 2010

I am having trouble using T4MVC VB with Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition.I can reference the T4MVC classes in my controllers, but I cannot access them in my views (where I actually need them). In the view, the following code is overwritten by intellisense as if the class MVC is invalid.[code]Which generates the error message 'Home' is not a member of 'Mvc'. It seems that in the view there is an Mvc namespace hiding the MVC class. This doesn't exist in the controller. After playing with it some more, it seems the classes aren't available in the View no matter what they're named. What decides what classes and namespaces are available in the view? The classes continue to be available in the controller, regardless of naming as well. I presume there has to be some filter or limit on what is available in the views?I was just watching this excellent video from Phil Haack, and it game me a clue.I need to modify the <pages> section in the web.config file. Now the question is, can I get that to use a class that's not in a namespace, as the MVC class is by default, otherwise I'll have to modify the T4 template to put it in a namespace and include that.

Use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition?

Dec 12, 2010

I am a visual basic developer and I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition. I've been making applications that can play only in my PC because it requires .NET Framework 4, which is not installed at even Windows 7 nor Windows Vista nor Xp. So, I decided to use Visual Studio 2008 which uses .NET Framework 3.5 SPI. It still doesn't run in common PCs. I believe it is pointless building applications that can perform only on programers' PCs. Is there any way to avoid using 4 or including it for the installation. I also downloaded .Net Framework 4.0 from this location [URL].. on a XP computer and my app couldn't perform because it was 3.5 SPI.

Office Automation :: Read Excel Using ADO In .NET 2005?

Apr 27, 2009

I am trying to read data off an excel file, using ADO and everything works fine ....EXCEPT:I get an error opening some files, if they are not open otherwise. The error is - "External table is not in the expected format". But if the same file is already open, then I do not get any error, and everything works fine.

If I copy paste the contents of the same file into a new file, and save it under a new name, I still get the error.Something strange I have noticed with this file is that if I open this file and try to close it, without making any changes, it still asks me if I want to save the changes. This is a file I get from an external source, so I have no control over the contents/format etc.The following code gives a part where I try to read all the sheet names in the file.

Crystal Reports For Visual Studio 2010 Runtime Edition?

Aug 24, 2011

I have Visual Studio 2010 installed on a 64-bit OS with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (obviously 64-bit edition as well). When I installed the runtime, their installation notes stated that if you develop 32-bit applications, you need install the 32-bit runtime, which I did. Testing the application and all is well.

However, this application is going to be distributed as x86 and x64. Now I have not yet converted my project to 64-bit, but should I now install the 64-bit runtime? How is this going to affect my 32-bit installation and report designs?

Secondly, when I distribute my application to the end-user, will they also be required to install the Crystal Reports runtime? Also according to their installation type (32-bit/64-bit)?

Lastly, I want to convert my project from x86 to x64. I understand you set this option by Build > Configuration Manager > (project) x64. Is it ok if I duplicate the entire project folder contents and setting only the duplicate project as x64?

Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition VB: Monthcalendar Not Working?

Sep 1, 2010

I cannot get the VB monthcalendar control to obey any of the properties I set for it, or the commands I give it programatically. It works (sort of - but with obvious bugs) in the state it arrives when copied to a new form straight out of the toolbox, eg when I click on a date etc, however if I set the background colour in Properties (or programatically), or try to change the BoldedDates programatically (as per numerous examples I have found) it ignores me!

I can create a brand new project, new form, add the monthcalendar out of the toolbox, change its properties in the Properties window, & when I run it the changed properties (eg background colour) are totally ignored.

VS 2008 Team Edition Database Professional

Aug 19, 2009

I have VS2005 Team Edition Database Professional installed on my laptop along with VS Team Edition Database Pro, not a problem so far. When I installed the VS2008 we were using SQL Server 2005 as your databases so when asked to the database for database projects I selected my SQL 2005 installation. Now we have moved some of your databases (all new projects) to SQL 2008. When I try and create a Database Schema compare I get an error on Field types (we decided to use Date data type for one field instead of DateTime). I have since installed SQL 2008 Express so that I can create the projects in the 2008 version of SQL Server.

IDE :: Database Access From A Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition Project?

Mar 3, 2008

I would like to access to a SQL Server Database from my Visual Studio project.

I have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my PC and I have a database with some tables.

In Visual Studio, I open the Database Explorer and I try to create a database connection.

The Add connection dialog box proposes to enter a database *file name* but I cannot select a database *server* and a database *name*.

Perhaps, is it a restriction because it is a free version ?

Within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition, I can select a database *server* and a database *name* !

Developing MS Visual Studio Like Application Using MS Visual Studio 2005

Nov 27, 2009

I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:

* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....

* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.

* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.

* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

Office Automation :: Excel Automation - Cannot Use Office PIAs

Feb 14, 2009

It appears that when one creates an instance of Excel, using CreateObject, (Late binding), the suggested Excel closing function (with GC.collect etc) does not work. I have tried several suggestions, and the only one that works is process.kill method. Do you see any problem in using this? BTW: the reason we are using late binding is that we cannot use Office PIAs....not sure which version of Office would be installed on the client site. We work with O2003, but the client might still be at 2000 or 2002.
