VS 2008 Team Edition Database Professional
Aug 19, 2009
I have VS2005 Team Edition Database Professional installed on my laptop along with VS Team Edition Database Pro, not a problem so far. When I installed the VS2008 we were using SQL Server 2005 as your databases so when asked to the database for database projects I selected my SQL 2005 installation. Now we have moved some of your databases (all new projects) to SQL 2008. When I try and create a Database Schema compare I get an error on Field types (we decided to use Date data type for one field instead of DateTime). I have since installed SQL 2008 Express so that I can create the projects in the 2008 version of SQL Server.

1) Can anyone post a link or tell me the differences between these versions of VISUAL STUDIO please? >>
Standard, Professional, Team Suite, Team Foundation Server Standard & Team Foundation Server WorkGroup Edition
2) I imagine Team Foundation Server WorkGroup Edition is the most expensive and therefore has the most functionality?
3) Are there any others I have not mentioned?

I am trying to automate VC++ build via an addIn written using VB.NEt so that we can schedule it using a simple batch file. This addin performs some custom pre-requisites before the build is started. The build is invoked as devenv.com /useenv %NEWSOLFILE% /CLEAN %BUILDCONFIG% /OUT %OUTLOGFILE% > nul

I have spent the past week trying to get my copy of Visual Studio 2010 Professional to work on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop, with no avail.
Every time I try to create a new form using Visual Basic, an error message saying that Microsoft Resource File To COFF Object Conversion Utility has stopped working, and I cannot even run the new form to see if my coding is correct.
I have managed to find that it has something to do with the cvtres.exe file, but after a solid hour of research, I have found numerous others with a similar problem, but no solutions.
I have done registry scans, reinstalled Visual Studio about 3 times and have done many other suggested fixes that have done nothing but waste my time.

Microsoft Access 2007 A Students.mdb database file Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. I was informed that one can connect to Access files with ease from the Express Edition and most of the tutorials on the internet also show this however I am encountering a problem.
I open Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition Start a new project, with a form, and then click on the Data window, and add new data sources from the Data menu.
I click on database. The problem starts with the data connection. I click New Connection Change the Data Source from Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 to Microsoft Access Database File and instead of then leading back to the other window (as happens on the tutorials for me to browse for the mdb file). Another window pops up asking me to Add a Connection.
It has the data source listed as Access and asks for a Connection String under the misc section. I type in
CODE:
When I click on Ok I get this error: Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.
The Test connection button works and says connection success whether the Connection String field is empty or not but when I click OK it still gives me the same error. So I can't leave it blank either
So basically I can't connect to the Access database since I can't change the connection type and it won't just let me browse and add the file anyway.

I would like to access to a SQL Server Database from my Visual Studio project.
I have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on my PC and I have a database with some tables.
In Visual Studio, I open the Database Explorer and I try to create a database connection.
The Add connection dialog box proposes to enter a database *file name* but I cannot select a database *server* and a database *name*.
Perhaps, is it a restriction because it is a free version ?
Within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition, I can select a database *server* and a database *name* !

The application I want to make is what I would call quite simple, you will have two text boxes where you enter in two team names.
i.e.
Team 1 v Team 2
Then below a little search button. And then when you click the button it will show a percentage of whom is most likely to win. Now I know that I would have to most likely enter something like
Team 1 v Team 2 WIN Team 1
Team 1 v Team 3 LOSS Team 1
Team 1 v Team 4 WIN Team 1
In some kind of script for this to work so when you search for
TEAM 1 v Team 2 it will show WIN Team 1

Firstly Merry Christmas everyone I have been asked by a family member to create an application, but one thing that I have decided that I should do with this application is make the UI more professional.Up to now I have been creating applications which when I need more information I would open up a new form, but I would like to create an application which all is within the main form.
After researching this I think the solution for this is to have the different bits in different panels and then only show the relevant panels at a particular time. But the problem I am having is getting my head around the problem with all the code. Using the panels method all the code would be in the main form, which when you have only a small amount of code then that would be fine but I'm thinking that with a larger application would make that a little more difficult as you may have hundreds of different panels.
So while I will be using OOP, so there wouldn't be much business logic code on the form, there would still be a lot.So I am wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I should go about doing this, if I'm using the wrong method then I would like to know what the more appropriate method would be.

I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen. The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.

I have a program that I need to import a csv file into sql database/tables.I am using Visual Basic 2008 express and sql server. When complete I have to distribute this to several users where they will have csv files in the same format but with unique data.It has been several years since I have done any programming and then it was vb6.I have quickly realized that my vb6 books are going to do me no good. I have spent an entire day watching tutorial and reading forums to no use.
The csv file is full of junk, where some of the records are 92 fields and some are 122. The fields have data that may have dozens of characters before and/or after the data that I need. On the good side I was able to pull the file into access and load it into two tables by using something along the lines of (where this = this, fill this table and the same for the second table.) So I have my 92 char records in one file and the 122 in another.Unfortunately though I can not use access to do this as many of the users do not have it. But by doing this I was able to work with the data in the file to get all of the fields set for name, length, type ect.So then I went into my vb project and created the database with two files.I set the fields up according to the information I got from the access tables. So I know that these two tables are a perfect fit for the data in this file.
What I need to be able to do is have the user browse through the program to find the csv file they will be using. If they have followed my directions, they should have placed it in the same folder as they program I will send them.I then need the program to take that file and import the data into my sql database/tables.I have come to the conclusion, given the condition of this file, that rather than try and clean it up before using it, it will make more sense to just get it loaded into the two tables. Then have my forms ect go and get the information that they need from the tables. Then after we are done using the records save them to a clean tables.
