May 26, 2008I finally figure out where I could get the imagelibrary.I downloaded the 90 trial version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition: [URL] opened the .img file with winRAR, did a search of the img file for *imagelibrary*.I was able to extract the imageLibrary from this without installing the trial version.Not sure where it was supose to extract to so I put it in:C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0Common7VS2005ImageLibraryI can find this folder in the form design and so far, it's working with my version of C# Express.

Sep 1, 2011I have spent the past week trying to get my copy of Visual Studio 2010 Professional to work on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop, with no avail.
Every time I try to create a new form using Visual Basic, an error message saying that Microsoft Resource File To COFF Object Conversion Utility has stopped working, and I cannot even run the new form to see if my coding is correct.
I have managed to find that it has something to do with the cvtres.exe file, but after a solid hour of research, I have found numerous others with a similar problem, but no solutions.
I have done registry scans, reinstalled Visual Studio about 3 times and have done many other suggested fixes that have done nothing but waste my time.

Unable To Find Visual Studio Professional Or Above?
Feb 20, 2012I don't think I can use my student account visual studio for commercial purposes. However, I can't afford eight hundred dollars for visual studio. I talked to a Microsoft rep and they said that with the visual basic express edition I won't be able to code anything or debug anything.
Does everyone here have visual studio professional or above? I was studying hard on my visual basic so that I could get started doing contract work on my own and hopefully start a software company after I get out of school. Now I don't know what to do. My next thought is to keep working on my C++ so that at least I can develop and deploy apps with free IDE's.

Oct 5, 2011I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system.While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen.The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.
I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.
PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.

Nov 28, 2010I am having trouble using T4MVC VB with Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition.I can reference the T4MVC classes in my controllers, but I cannot access them in my views (where I actually need them).In the view, the following code is overwritten by intellisense as if the class MVC is invalid.[code]Which generates the error message 'Home' is not a member of 'Mvc'. It seems that in the view there is an Mvc namespace hiding the MVC class. This doesn't exist in the controller.After playing with it some more, it seems the classes aren't available in the View no matter what they're named. What decides what classes and namespaces are available in the view? The classes continue to be available in the controller, regardless of naming as well. I presume there has to be some filter or limit on what is available in the views?I was just watching this excellent video from Phil Haack, and it game me a clue.I need to modify the <pages> section in the web.config file. Now the question is, can I get that to use a class that's not in a namespace, as the MVC class is by default, otherwise I'll have to modify the T4 template to put it in a namespace and include that.

Dec 12, 2010I am a visual basic developer and I use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition. I've been making applications that can play only in my PC because it requires .NET Framework 4, which is not installed at even Windows 7 nor Windows Vista nor Xp. So, I decided to use Visual Studio 2008 which uses .NET Framework 3.5 SPI. It still doesn't run in common PCs. I believe it is pointless building applications that can perform only on programers' PCs. Is there any way to avoid using 4 or including it for the installation. I also downloaded .Net Framework 4.0 from this location [URL].. on a XP computer and my app couldn't perform because it was 3.5 SPI.

Aug 24, 2011I have Visual Studio 2010 installed on a 64-bit OS with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 (obviously 64-bit edition as well). When I installed the runtime, their installation notes stated that if you develop 32-bit applications, you need install the 32-bit runtime, which I did. Testing the application and all is well.
However, this application is going to be distributed as x86 and x64. Now I have not yet converted my project to 64-bit, but should I now install the 64-bit runtime? How is this going to affect my 32-bit installation and report designs?
Secondly, when I distribute my application to the end-user, will they also be required to install the Crystal Reports runtime? Also according to their installation type (32-bit/64-bit)?
Lastly, I want to convert my project from x86 to x64. I understand you set this option by Build > Configuration Manager > (project) x64. Is it ok if I duplicate the entire project folder contents and setting only the duplicate project as x64?

Sep 1, 2010I cannot get the VB monthcalendar control to obey any of the properties I set for it, or the commands I give it programatically. It works (sort of - but with obvious bugs) in the state it arrives when copied to a new form straight out of the toolbox, eg when I click on a date etc, however if I set the background colour in Properties (or programatically), or try to change the BoldedDates programatically (as per numerous examples I have found) it ignores me!
I can create a brand new project, new form, add the monthcalendar out of the toolbox, change its properties in the Properties window, & when I run it the changed properties (eg background colour) are totally ignored.

The Add connection dialog box proposes to enter a database *file name* but I cannot select a database *server* and a database *name*.
Perhaps, is it a restriction because it is a free version ?

Aug 24, 2011We are using VB.NET 2008. This program must run on a 32 bit operating system.
The machine where the program is running at is a 24 core machine which has 16 Gig of RAM.
It has a Win Server 2003, Enterprise Edition SP2, x86 based PC.
When the VB.NET program VM Size reaches about 1.3 Gig, it says "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."
When I go to Task Manager and check the Processes, "Mem Usage" for this program is about 300 Meg and "VM Size" is 1,341,300.

Information:
Total Physical Memory is 16.37 Gb.
Available physical memory is 14.46 Gb.
Total virtual memory is 17.74 Gb.
Available virtual memory is 15.73 Gb.
Can my VB.NET 32 bit program access more than 1.3 Gig of VM in Win 2003 SP2 Enterprise edition ? How can it do that ?
According to [URL] the memory limit on this kind of machine with x86 is 64 Gig.
