Whenever I open any VBP file in Visual Basic 6.0, I get Method '~' of object '~' failed error. After that project compiles without any error i.e I can create either EXE or DLL without any error. Originally, all files are Visual Basic 5.0 vbp files and we are converting Visual Basic 5.0 to Visual Basic 6.0. We will be converting to .Net after converting to VB6. Application uses microsoft access as data storage.I am running Windows XP on my machine. I have got .Net 3.5, Jet 3.5 Sp3, Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my machine.
View 8 RepliesI was convinced that If <expression> Then <statement [:statement]> Else [statements] in concrete form of If a = b Then SayHello() Else SayBye() End has sense. I read article on msdn on If-then-else, but I forgot why I was reading, so I concluded, that snippet above means this
If a = b Then HelloIsSaid : IsNotEnded Else ByeIsSaid : IsEnded But I have tested it now, and I see, that Else without statement is nothing more than decoration. It would be pretty good if it had function I described. Do you think its good request? Or do you know any circumstance where this Else has some function?
Why does my the declaration of my string in the code result in the following error? Is there a workaround?
Code:
<script runat="server">
Protected Sub form1_Load(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs)
Dim x As String = "</script>"
[code]....
Error: Statement cannot appear within a method body. End of method assumed.
Note: The following page did not fix my issue and instead resulted in the string </script> being output in my page. ( VB.NET hates </script> tag in string literal )
[code] when i try to add date into db >> is showing me that error ( Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '10/07/2011 07:45: )
View 9 RepliesA week ago, I encounter an error while doing my project. I failed to open certain form in vb.net. While clicking a button to show the form this will came out.
"[An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Argument 'Expression' cannot be converted to type 'TextBox']".
I'm writing something that will examine a function and rewrite that function in another language so basically if inside my function F1, i have this line of code var x=a.b(1) how do i break up the function body into symbols or "tokens"?I've searched around and thought that stuff in System.Reflection.MethodInfo.GetMethodBody would do the trick however that class doesn't seem to be able to have the capabilities to do what i want..dit 2:basically what I'm trying to do is to write a program in c#/vb and when i hit F5 a serializer function will (use reflection and) take the entire program (all the classes in that program) and serialize it into a single javascript file. of course javascript doesn't have the .net library so basically the C#/VB program will limit its use of classes to the .js library (which is a library written in c#/vb emulating the framework of javascript objects)

MsgBox(10)

I get three errors of expression is not a method
I want to display an image if 2 conditions are met. The data item is not null. The value of the data item is greater than 0 Markup
<img id="Img1" runat="server" visible='<%#IIF( DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "amount") is DBNull.Value Or DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "amount") = 0, False, True)%>' src="/Images/check.png" />

Ok so I have alot of plans for programs coming up and I want them all to fade in and out so instead of copy and pasting from project to project etc I learnt about dll's
So when I added in the references etc and I typed in what I declared the Fadein function as which was "FadeIn" I got an error saying it needed to be declared
So I declared it as a string
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim FadeIn As String
FadeIn(Me)
End Sub
Then I get a different error saying Expression is not a method.
im migrating from vb6 to vb.net and have only very basic knowledge of .net. now i upgraded one of my projects, in which i had function cleartexts() which would clear all the text boxes of the forms. now to upgrade it to .net i converted it to sub (as it didnt return anything), so it looked like,
public sub cleartexts()
for i = 1 to 24
text(i).text=""
next
end sub
but .net 2005 gives the error, "expression is not a method", how do i call it then?? or what modifications do i need to make?
I am getting an error when trying to call a form from within a method:
Expression is not a method
My code structure looks like this:
Public Class frmMain
Class Server
Private Shared Sub StringMessageReceived()
[Code]....
How can I call the windows form within the class?
I want to extract
[code]...
using a regular expression. I have a regex like this:
FROM.*order
which extracts FROM codes WHERE FieldName='ContactMethod' and IsNull(Deactived,'') != 'T' order Also, how can I get rid of the capitalization?
I have a requirement where I have to add items into a List(Of T) (let's call it Target) from an IEnumerable(Of T) (let's call it Source) using Target.AddRange() in VB.NET.
Target.AddRange(Source.TakeWhie(Function(X, Index) ?))
The ? part is a tricky condition that is something like: As long as the as yet unenumerated count is not equal to what is needed to fill the list to the minimum required then randomly decide if the current item should be taken, otherwise take the item.Somethig like...
Source.Count() - Index = _minimum_required - _curr_count_of_items_taken _
OrElse GetRandomNumberBetween1And100() <= _probability_this_item_is_taken
' _minimum_required and _probability_this_item_is_taken are constants
The confounding part is that _curr_count_of_items_taken needs to be incremented each time the TakeWhile statement is satisfied. How would I go about doing that? I'm also open to a solution that uses any other LINQ methods (Aggregate, Where, etc.) instead of TakeWhile.If all else fails then I will go back to using a good old for-loop =)
How would you convert this to VB (using .NET 4.0 / VS2010) ?
bw.DoWork += (o, args) =>
{
Code Here
};
I thought maybe like this:
AddHandler bw.DoWork,
Function(o, args)[code]....
But it says Function does not return a value on all code paths.
I have an inline lambda expression that I would like to use throughout my application. I just can't seem to find a reference on how to do this with more parameters than the element being tested. Here is a quick example of what I currently have.
Private Sub Test()
Dim List As New List(Of String) From {"Joe", "Ken", "Bob", "John"}
Dim Search As String = "*Jo*"
[Code].....
I want to create a (vb.net) method and call it from an expression like this:
=Code.WhereDoIWriteThiscode(Fields!SomeValue.Value)
Where do I write this WhereDoIWriteThiscode method ?The documentation says it is an embedded method.
[Code]....
This code is giving an error: Compiler Error Message: BC30201: Expression expected. I just basically want to check if two values are equal but its saying something about expression expected although i've given the expression to evaluate.
I'm looking to display some data taken from an Access database. It's just a table of data but all of Visual Basic DataGrid stuff seems too...bland and businessy. I want something that looks really attractive and would be suitable for a game (a sports management one). I'm using some Krypton Controls and even though there is a DataGridView in there, again it's not what I'm looking for. I could just have a listbox for each column of data and that would allow me to customize the style completely, but it would be a bit fiddly working out sorting and stuff (even though I reckon I could do).
View 2 RepliesIn debug mode I get into a line that evaluates to false because the expression cannot be evaluated because of "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized." Program does not assert or error out. If Item.Length then . . . (Here when I hover the mouse it displays "Cannot evaluate expression because the code of the current method is optimized"). What interesting is that it only occurs in one of .vb files.BTW, I'm programming in Compact Framework.

I have a VB.NET project and a C# project in the same VS2010 solution. The VB.NET project is referenced (and used) by the C# project as a project reference. If while I am in the C# project, and I Ctrl-Click or Go to Definition on an element that is part of the VB project, it takes me to C# generated metadata instead of the actual VB code file.Is there any way to get this to go to the VB code file, so I dont have to navigate manually in solution explorer/navigator?
View 2 RepliesI have a class with a static list of keys, and I have a static method called Remove() that removes a key from that list.Now what I understand from the contracts post conditions is that as the programmer of the class, I guarantee that the current public method does something specific, in this case : removing the element of the list.
Here's what I've written:
private static List<Keys> m_usedKeys; // private list of keys
public static void Remove(Keys _key)
{
[code]....
What I'm trying to "Ensure" here, is that the Remove() method removes the key for real from the list (Yes this might be a trivial example, but I get the error there.)when I write the Contract.Ensures() line, VS2010 gives me the following error :
Error 3 Detected expression statement evaluated for potential side-effect in contracts of method 'LibJungleTimer.KeyBind.Remove(System.Windows.Forms.Keys)'. (Did you mean to put the expression into a Requires, Ensures, or Invariant call?) C:UsersJoelDocumentsProgrammationJTJungleTimerLibJungleTimerKeyBind.cs 51
I think this error says that the expression m_usedKeys.remove(_key); has a potential side-effect. In fact, it has a side-effect, it removes a key from the list!If I try to write something like this instead :
Contract.Assert(!m_usedKeys.Any(x => x == _key));
well it compiles fine.
(VS 2008)I'm using a C# library for my VB.NET project. And the method summary/notes or what they are called do not show in intellisense. Is this supposed to be like that? Or is there something I must do to fix it? And if not, will VS 2010 be able to do this?
EDIT: Still unresolved. Now building library dll + xml file, but how to import the xml file in my vb project?

The following LINQ query resp. call of the extension method Select in Visual Basic 2010 is working fine:
Dim qAvSalary = qJobData.Select(Function(e) e.AvSalary) But doing so I am not able to specify the name of property I want the query (e.g. AvSalary) using a string variable. This should be possible if I use a LINQ expression tree. Searching and trying a long time on how to translate the query to a corresponding expression tree was not successful. My final approach is:

I have Overloaded the Dispose method of System.Windows.Forms.Form Class in which I have written some extra code which I need to execute when object of Form Disposes. But when I create the object of Form in 'Using' statement, the 'End Using, statement do not execute my overloaded Dispose method. What should I do?

View 2 RepliesStatement cannot appear outside of a method body.I am posting my vb.net problem .
[code]...
I have the following vb code which works as expected when it's in a code-behind page. I tried to move it to a shared or component page since I will need to use it in multiple pages:
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Public
Class DetTime
'Determine eastern time
[CODE]...
However the "if" statement shows an error " statement cannot appear outside of a method body" and the Microsoft solution is to "move statement into a procedure or subroutine"
