Opening Different Forms Depending On Account Type?
Apr 13, 2012
I've just finished creating a basic login system which enables you to create an account and select either a "Student" or "Teacher" account.
Once the account is created it's stored in an Access 2007 database. The field the account type gets stored in is called AccountType. When users log in with their unique username and password I want the program to take them to a different form depending on whether they have a student or teacher account.
Am migrating VB6 to VB.Net and am stuck once again. We use App.HelpFile in vb6 to set Path and Filename of current help file.Current help File can change depending on which form is displayed. How do we assign help files in VB.net?
I have added two checkbox controls chkBox1 and chkBox2. What I want to do is that when both the chkbox are same meaning checked or unchecked the label should be On and if both are not same label should be Off.
Getting some errors with a loop. It's a log-in app that has username, passwords & account type stored in a SqlCe database. I would like it to sync with a larger database for updates that has not been made so i left it out but I have started to make a loop that would connect it to the larger DB and if connection failed would try a set number of times before stopping the program. I'm coding this project with Visual Studio 08 pro
Dim conndb As New SqlCeConnection("Data Source = |DataDirectory|\Mydb.sdf") Dim x, y, z As Double x = 1 y = x + 1 z = 5
I've got a tab control and want to dynamically add tabs depending on the output from a database. I can easily add a new tab, however I want to inherit the controls and layout from the initial tab.
I'm modifying an existing form in Visual Basic 2010 Express and attempting to work out some small kinks I've noticed. The one that I'm having an issue with is getting the form to completely fill the screen without the border going off screen. When I set the form's Size values at W:1024,H:768 the page always opens a little off. I tried setting the size a little smaller, W:1020,H:764, and it still does not perfectly fill the screen. Does the Size value include the border pixels or are the border pixels added to the form's Size value? Is there another value somewhere that could be affecting this?
How can we add a list to a combo box from a txt or excel file when entering an account number. the details must only be displayed for each defferent acount information. for example. account no 3332 must show a name and telephone number in to separate comboboxes. although it must contain lets say 4 telephone numbers and 4 names that are located in a text document.
Does anyone know how to run windows explorer with an admin account while logged in with a non admnistrative account? i want to be able to open up an admin share on a remote host with windows explorer instead of iexplorer. I tried some code I found on the net to impersonate but it didn't work.
How to create an instance of a form if it is not know in advance which formtype has to be opened. If you want to skip the chitchat: the .NET code example is at the end of this post. First the Symantec: when we create a new form, this form has a name. If we refer to that name, we actually refer to the name of the type of object that is just created. When to use of course when reading the subject you might think: why not just pass the form to a parameter that takes a form (or control/object)?
The answer is: you don't when it is not sure, when or if a new instance of the object has to be created or, as mentioned, when the procedure is called it is not known which class has to be created. You could of course hold a bunch of created objects, but that would be a shameless misuse of memory. Imagine the following scenario (seen something like this in a post, but can't find it anymore):
You have a class that is able to trap an event, say the doubleclick of a textbox, and has to open a form when it occurs. If it's always the same form, that's easy, but what if you want it to be determined during runtime? This is a quite common story: doubleclick on article opens the detail form of that article, doubleclick on supllier opens that particular form. If you use a form variable, how do you say to the class which form should be opened? This will not work
Code: Dim FormToOpen as Form 'you don't want to open it right away, you want to know when the time comes what form to openFormToOpen = Form1You could say FormToOpen = new Form1, but then 1. an instance would be immediately created, even if it never will be used: memory leak. 2. you can never close the form, you'll always have to use the same instance created when setting the form. Consequently, you can never open more than 1 instance using this way.
The solution: use the type. If you know the type, the Activator class will enable you to open (and return) an instance of that form at any time and as much times as you like. (The Activotor class exposes the function CreateInstance which returns an instance of the specified object)The following code creates an instance of the type form1 and shows it.
Code: CType(Activator.CreateInstance(GetType(Form1)), Form).Show()Or for better readability, the same code split up: Code: Dim FormToOpen As Type FormToOpen = GetType(Form1) Dim frm As Form = CType(Activator.CreateInstance(FormToOpen), Form) frm.Show()
I am currently working on a stock market monitoring application. how to create a new portfolio(sort of a personal account) for each user that accesses the system such that 2 different users do not have the same portfolio. I am making use of SQL server for my database.
I have a panel with some controls in it (several textboxes, a slider, 2 buttons, and a small groupbox).. When I click a button, I want all of the textboxes within the panel to be readonly... So I have this code: [code] When I run it though, I get the following error:Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.Button' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.TextBox'.If I remove a button, it moves on to give me the same error but for a label..
A week ago, I encounter an error while doing my project. I failed to open certain form in vb.net. While clicking a button to show the form this will came out. "[An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Argument 'Expression' cannot be converted to type 'TextBox']".
I'm using a date/time picker control and sending the db value to it. I know that the value is null, but I don't understand why the Picker can't be blank. Is there a way to let it be blank? Or should I set up a way to check for nulls and assign today's date or something just in case?
I have given reference to Microsoft HTML in COM (am using VB 2008)
"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.HtmlElement' to type 'mshtml.IHTMLElement'."
I want to retrieve all the properties like the class name, html id of every object in the web browser. I am getting the above exception when i try to direct cast it.[code]...
I'm new to non internet programing. But I got to start somewhere. So i'll try and make this simple I have a MDI parent form with a tab control section. From a link in the toolbar i would like to open a diffrent form in my tab section. This is what I figured out so far if its even close.
on visual basic how can you open random forms? (im doing a quiz with questions on separate forms and would like to open random forms to show the random questions)
Firstly though, I'll have to mention that I'm a relative newcomer to vb.net and don't really know that much about advanced functions.I have my main form which dynamically generates 15 buttons.
Each of these buttons will need to open another form, depending on which form has been assigned to that button in a config file (the config file isn't yet done, as I want to get it working simply by hardcoding the name of the forms for the time being)
The way I have it in my head is that I would assign the form name that needs to be open to the name of the button, if that makes sense....However, I have absolutely no clue how to do it, I've tried a couple of things but to no avail.
Here's my code, and I have no problem changing any part of it if it will help things along, this is just the only way I know how to create dynamic buttons.[CODE...]
Is there any switch that will allow you to open an application over all the other currently open applications? My problem is getting Explorer to open over all the other currently open applications. Right now, it only opens in the background......
I want to open a VB.net form using a ThreadPool with a maximum of 10 threads. I need to do this because, the form should open based on a live event and i need atmost 10 forms on the desktop at a time. If i open the form on every live event without using a ThreadPool, the desktop will be floaded with many forms. I am using QueueUserWorkItem method of threadpool to queue a method which opens the form. In this queued method, there is form1.show() statement called. But after displaying the form, this method finishes execution and again we have 10 threads available in the system. I somehow want to either keep this method running so that 1 thread is occupied or i want to keep the thread alive till the form1 is closed by the user. I want the 11th form to appear on the desktop, only when any of the existing forms out of the 10 (already on desktop) is closed.
I have a group of buttons all with different labels. I want to have each of these specific buttons open up the same form, but my problem is when I write the code of form1.show it pops open twenty or so different windows. How to I make one button open just one window?
Over the past months I have been working on small windows forms applications and learning vb as i go along. The aim was to pull these altogether into one big application.
I am now at the stage of pulling these together I have created a new project (called MainMenu) and designed all the buttons and interface. I have added my other projects (SISApp, CURApp) to this project. File > Add > Existing Project. I can see these projects in the solution explorer.
Now my problem. How can show Form2 in the SISApp project when I click ButtonX in the MainMenu project.
I dont just want to show Form2, i want all the functionality and the database connection in form2 to also work etc.
I might be going about this the wrong way, but I'm trying to create a form that will include a single button, for instance "Enter". When "Enter" is clicked, I want the form to then display the contents of form 2, which might include more buttons and/or a textbox, etc. I want to do all this without ever opening or closing a form.
In a MDI application, for opening a form in the MDI, I am using the following code
Private Sub RoleToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RoleToolStripMenuItem.Click Dim lobj_ChildForm As frmRole 'Check if form is already open lobj_ChildForm = Nothing
[code]....
As you can see, I need loopong through all the open child forms.
I am trying to open an Excel file using the following commands:
xlsWB = xlsApp.Workbooks.Open(filename, , True)
where 'filename' is the name of the file. However I am getting the following error message:
Message = "Old format or invalid type library. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80028018 (TYPE_E_INVDATAREAD))"
I originally developed an application where I used the above code with default language setting of "English" (under regional and language settings). When I am changing the language setting to "French", the above errror comes up. I am changing the language setting to French in order to simulate an error when this application is run in a French version computer.
