Oracle Select Statement From Textbox Input Into Datagrid?

I have a textbox and a datagrid. I am trying to enter a last name into the textbox and have that return the entire record from that last name into the datagrid from an oracle database. The code below currently returns all records in the table and is not searching by the last name. Public Class Form1

I have some code in a VB module. When I run this with the SQL statement having hard coded values in the where statement it works. I am now trying to add Parameters to the module so that the Form can except an Input from a user, but I am getting the message: Input string was not in a correct format.
Here is the section of code:

objCmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text

Like I said, if I substitute the Parameters for fixed values it all works.

I'm relatively new to VB. I want to perform a SELECT statement that uses a variable to return a value, example;
mysql> SELECT room_description FROM room_descriptions WHERE current_room = 'someVariable';
And display the result in a TextBox i.e. TextBox.text = someVariable.
So how do I perform a query from VB that passes a variable? How do I assign the result to a variable?

The problem is when I search through a textbox and nothing matches the search query, I accidentally click the column header which is the lastname then the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." pops up.
The highlighted part of my code is the text closed in quotation marks.

What I want to do is get all the data from the Oracle table to display in a list control however I want the values in the DISP_ID column of the Oracle table to be change to the corrosponding DESC values from the DispTbl e.g. 5 from the Oracle table would display Piping instead of 5.
I know how to do this if both the tables where in one database system e.g. Oracle or SQL, however I am not sure the best why to do this when the tables are in 2 different data sources.

In my code I have an Oracle command that contains an INSERT statement. Here's a snippet from my SQL:

The value of strDateTime_Stamp is #1/19/2011 9:42:22 AM# I'm getting an error ( "ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string") because I don't know how to correctly assign the AM/PM tag on the end -- you'll notice it just says "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" in my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but nothing works. I also find it odd that if I change the "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" to "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm" (little m for month) it gives me a 42 for the month value, not a 1. The capital M's fix that but I'm curious to know why.how to I get it to show the AMPM on the end?

I have the following insert into statement. What I want to do is insert the values to gprdsql.TblOracleNos if TxtOracleNo is not empty, therefore if a user logs on and fill the textbox the values are saved to the table. However, if the oracle number exists in gprdsql.TblOracleNos (i.e, the values ) it should not insert the values, presently it creates the same record again with same values (when the save button is clicked) and this creates duplication. I want to (SQL) select from a table in an Oracle database, and show the results of the query in the VB application, in a Excel like manner (rows, columns, selectable, etc.). Or in a SQL developer manner. How can I do that? Browsed through a lot of tutorials and howtos on the internet, did not get anywhere. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that it's gotta be something with DataGridView. But I don't know how to create and populate a datatable with the result of as Select statement, how to create a dataset.

For example: There is a textbox and the user puts in their name as Bob. Then the message box would be: What my main goal is, is being able to include the users input they type inside the textbox inside the message box.

My objective is to, instead of entering in the data manually into the text boxes, I want to read in a textfile. The Calculate button will contain the code to read in the file and assign it to the appropriate textboxes. Save the separate file in the \bin\Debug folder.
The text file just needs to have 3 integers on 3 separate lines.The code I posted works without and errors, but.I am having some trouble integrating the Stream Reader.

First one: At some point in the application I have the valor parameter (of the visual Basic Function) as a string with spaces that is something like "some string with spaces". When this happens, the stored procedure don't update the table. If I execute the SP directly in the DB (with SQL Developer) all works fine. I know it has something to do with the string missing some quotes(') but I haven't make it work yet. Some ideas on this?
Second problem: Sometimes, when debuging the application, if I interrupt the execution, I start getting the ORA-24338 'statement handle not executed' error for hours every time I try to execute it again. I believe it has something to do with an open transaction. But honestly, as I'm new in working with Oracle, I really have no idea what the problem could be.

In my Form1 i have a datagrid with coulmns: CarName , CarModel , CarColor , CarOwner (there are a lot of data).
I added queries (textboxes that the user writes in text) that can "filter" data when the user want to choose specific CarName or specific CarModel.
textbox1 = CarName
textbox2 = CarModel
textbox3 = CarColor
textbox4 = CarOwner
If the user writes text in TextBox1 then the data shown in the DataGrid is filtered.What if the user want to choose also (!) a carOwner? I know how to use AND statements, but if the user didn't specified a carOwner non of the data is shown although there are this kind of data.
