POS Button Interface For A Restaurant / Food Chain

Mar 15, 2012

I'm making this POS software for a restaurant and I was wondering what the best way to create the button interface for the items since it's going to use a touch screen monitor.
I was thinking of adding the buttons at runtime to solve the excess space problem, and also add the code at runtime, but that seems like too much work, so I thought I should ask if there are any other ways to approach the problem?

General Categories, Ie "food". Under The Category "food"?

Jul 2, 2009

My sister owns a small business, and (as a cashier) she is currently using hand written invoices for receipts and records. She knows I have some basic programming knowledge, and would like me to make her a program that would make it easier on her. Ultimately, it's going to log sales, and anything else to make taxes easier on her, which she is also doing manually at this time.

That will probably be a few weeks from now, for now what I want is to be able to have a Category, Subcategory, and Product system using ListView boxes. Ie. In the first ListView will be general categories, ie "food". Under the category "food", there will be the subcategories "pizza", "fish", and "pasta". Under the subcategory fish, there will be the products "salmon", "trout", and "cod". The user can highlight cod, click "add item" twice. The first time adding it to the receipt ListView box with a quantity of 1, the second time changing the quantity to 2.

Now the idea here is to make the contents of the ListView boxes depend on the selection in the preceding ListView box. If the user chose the Pizza subcategory, he would have the products "cheese", "pepperoni", and "mushrooms" in the product list box. If he chose "beverages" on the first ListBox (general category), he would get different choices entirely.

Of course these are not the items being sold, but they serve as good examples. I have a decent start on the program but have run into a few roadblocks. In each ListBox, there will be an "Add *" selection (activated by double click), which * will be the ListView it in. For example, they could go to the food category, double click the "Add Subcategory to food category" list item, bringing up a dialog asking for the subcategory name. They could then, in that subcategory, double click an "Add product to * subcategory" list item, bringing up a dialog asking for the item name, price, and flags such as taxability (some things such as services are non taxable). In addition, I want the user to be able to double click an existing item, removing it from the list.

I have a good start on the program, the interface is mostly done. My next step is to create some form of database to store the categories, subcategories, and products she adds. I could probably get it to work in runtime, but it would be a shame to have to redo it every time she restarts the program But this is where the roadblock is. I don't know what to do at this point, I've spent hours on Google before coming to this site. I will include the source so you can see where I'm at, at the moment.

i am coding a program in vb.NET, it will be used for people to vot for their favourite food.I have let the users input the name of favoutie foods into an inputbox and tehn store the name of each favoutie food into an array called foodarray. Then the array outputs each item inside it into a checkedlistbox, which will be used to vote from by the voters.The problem is that i want to add 1 to the value of the name of the food each time it is selected by a user. How do i do this, i want to add 1 to the names in the foodarray to find out how many votes each food gets.

Chain A Null Coalesce Operator?

Oct 25, 2011

I have a class Customer which contains the property Extensions which in turn contains the property Any. I tried to do: Dim room = If(customer.Extensions.Any.ElementAt(0).InnerText, Nothing) but it threw an error when it did not find an Extension element in the incoming xml. I thought it would return nothing once it saw that the first expression was Nothing. Do I have to do a multiple if statement in this case?

Implementing Class With Chain Of Inheritances

May 30, 2009

Usually, if I make a class that has an implementation and also inherits a class with same method signatures, then I do not need to manually add implementation code. For example, if I create a class that inherits List(of Double) and Implements IList(of Double), then I do not need to add any code to make this compile, since the program realizes that the inheritance covers all the methods of the implementation. (Even though VB will auto-generate methods you can remove them no problem).

Now I'm trying do to something more complicated, using an implementation on top of IList, with a class that has a chain of inheritances, and the program won't accept it. See this example:

Interface ICustomList
Inherits IList(Of Double)
Sub TestSub()
End Interface
Class BaseList
[Code] .....

The final item, CustomList, is not compiling. The program says 'TestSub' must be implemented, but by inheriting BaseList, the class has a TestSub (and it is recognized by intellisense)! All the subs exist, they are functional, so why is the implementation not valid? (I know I can get rid of this error by manually creating an (overloading) TestSub in CustomList and specifying that it is an implementation. However, this should not be necessary since it already exists, and if I am going to be building a chain of classes inheriting each other, this could potentially become time-consuming and annoying.)

POS System For A Restaurant With A Floorplan Editor

Jan 14, 2011

I'm looking at creating something similar to a POS system for a restaurant with a floorplan editor, just a pet project to try something new and exciting. Anyway, what I want to do is make a form that the user can create a floor plan of their restaurant on. This will include them creating simple walling layouts so they can map out the size of the room and adding tables. This would be similar to those house design software packages where you create your house, but only the flat 2D design. Would it be as easy as instantiating new image controls and dropping them on the form etc?

Restaurant Application With Menu Items?

Jun 16, 2010

A restaurant wants an application that calculates a table's bill. The application should display all the menu items ( shown below) in four ComboBoxes. Each ComboBox should contain a category of food offered by the restaurant (Beverage, Appetizer, Main Course and Dessert). The user can choose from one of these ComboBoxes to add an item to a table's bill. As each item is selected in the ComboBoxes, add the price of that item to the bill. The user can click the Clear Button to restore the Subtotal:, Tax:, and Total: fields to $0.00?

VS 2008 Create A Restaurant Bill?

Oct 5, 2009

Trying to create a restaurant bill, i found a program that does something similar but when i tried to adapt it, it doesnt do what it is supposed to.Let me go over what it's supposed to do first.If there are three items on a menu, lets say; pizza, fries and drinks. the pizza costs $1.75 a slice, the fries are $2.00, and the drinks are $1.25. the user selects how many of each are purchased, then presses a 'compute' button and displays a bill in a listbox. here is the code i wrote for such a program, obviously wrong or it'd be working.

Public Class RestaurantBill
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCompute.Click

.net - Querying Twice-separated-or-more Objects In A Relation Chain?

Apr 20, 2010

Not sure if I am using the correct term, but it's not child/parent since they aren't nested objects. In my application I've got a User, UserUserGroup, and UserGroup objects which are pretty standard, UserUserGroup is a linking object with corresponding IDs. I am using Linq-to-SQL so unforunately it doesn't used nested objects, but it still knows the relation.

.net - Visual Studio 2008 Build Dependency Chain?

Feb 22, 2009

I am having an issue with Visual Studio 2008 SP1. Basically, I have a .NET 3.5 solution with a client, shared and server component. While coding, all components run on the same box, but in production the server component is a standalone (remoting) service running on a separate server.

I would expect that a change to the client component would require only a rebuild of that component as there is no client/server dependency. This is in fact how it works on my work PC. However, on my personal PC and another co-worker's PC, any modification - even a simple label change on the client, requires the server component service to be stopped so that the solution can be rebuilt in its entirety. Does anyone know if there is a particular setting that controls this??

Does Dispose(disposing As Boolean) Need Implementing For Every Class In A Chain

May 9, 2012

I'm trying to work out whether every Class in an Inheritance chain needs an explicit Dispose(disposing As Boolean) method or, if a given Class has neither managed nor unmanaged resources to dispose of, it can be skipped for that Class - even if a latterClass does require a Dispose method to dispose of mananaged or unmnaged resources?

Here's two examples:
Public Class BaseClass
Inherits Component 'Component has already implemented IDisposable

Interface And Graphics :: Scrollbars Button Size?

Jan 13, 2011

I plan on using a scrollbar for, well, scrolling an image. The image is 200x500, however, the only visible area is 200x250.

So I set the max value to 250, and the min value to 0. The idea is that if I drag the scrollbar's button to the bottom, 250 pixels will have moved for the image, right?

But wait, the scrollbar's button is.... very small. And the scrollbar is actually pretty long. Is there a way to make the scrollbar's button longer?

Interface And Graphics :: Way To Have A Button / Label That Would Change

This is for a to-do list type of application where a user clicks the button to signify that the current item is finished..This is what I was thinking (not in VB code) When button1 is clicked, combobox1. selecteditem. color = green

Interface And Graphics :: Get The Button To Look Like Default After Changing The Color?

Aug 26, 2011

I have a form with buttons, and the user can change the colors of the buttons with the color dialog box for fun:

Button_Play.BackColor = ColorDialog.Color

There is a reset button to put the colors to how they were without any special coloring, but I can't get them to go back to how they originally looked.They go to gray in the middle, instead of the nice shaded blue/gray style. I have tried a few different things:

Button_Play.BackColor = Button.DefaultBackColor
Button_Play.BackColor = SystemColors.Control
Button_Play.BackColor = Color.Empty

I am using VB '08 Express on Win XP with the Desktop, Display Properties, Appearance, Windows and Buttons: set to Media Center Style and Color Scheme: set to Energy Blue. how to (with this theme) get the button to look like default after changing the color?

Interface And Graphics :: [VB2005] Enable Import Button In The GUI?

Nov 20, 2008

how to enable the "import" button when at least one of the checkboxes is checked.I have two buttons : "Deselect all" and "Select All" for the checking of the boxes, to import the specific files' data they want to Excel. (the files are in listbox, and the checked boxes is for selecting the files' parameters that they want to see in excel)

One option:When the user deselect all, the "import" button is suppose to be disable to prevent the user from importing the files' data parameters.

2nd option:(if i do not want to disable the import button) or show message that they have to select at least one box and at the same time, prevent the import button to work if there's no checked checkbox. So my deselect all button code :

Code:
CO2checkbox.Checked = False
NH3checkbox.Checked = False
DBcheckbox.Checked = False

[code]....

but the button still remain disabled if I click "unchecked all" button and then checked at least one box. how do I enable it?And how do i...show error message and prevent the files' data to be imported when the user click "import" when there's no checked checkbox if I choose the alternative option of using message to alert them without disabling the button and yet prevent importing of data?

PS: If I did not click "deselect all" button but click the "select all" button, the import button is enabled and working.
