I want to pass a few variables to another page. Currently I'm using response.redirect and passing the variables in the url. I'm not really interested in using Session Variables. Is there a way to pass hidden variables in .NET to a completely different form?
View 4 RepliesWhen working with a collection of forms that the user must step through, is it better to pass the data foward when creating a new instance of that form, or is it better to call a function from the previous form? I have some code written that calls the previous routine, and it looks ugly, and I can't quite think of a reason why it was done that way. The only reason I could come up with was if the data was large, and there was a good chance that the user wouldn't use the data except in a special case.

Problem is, some of it is more complete than others.Here's what I'm trying to do:In Form1 (my main form), I want to instantiate a class that contains a couple of properties (speed setpoint and position setpoint). When I click a button, I want to pass this data to Form2 and populate two textboxes on Form2 with the properties of this object. I want to manipulate the property values on Form2 and click an OK button which closes the dialog and returns the manipulated data, updating the property values of the object. Here's the algorithm I'm following:1) On Form1, instantiate the class2) On Form1's "Pass Data" button click event handler, instantiate a Form2 object and invoke the ShowDialog method, passing the object as a parameter.
3) On Form2, overload the ShowDialog method to accept the object as a parameter and modify the method so that it returns the manipulated class data.4) On Form2, in the ShowDialog method, populate the textboxes with the class data that was passed in.Here's where I get stuck. If I press the OK button on Form2 (DialogResult.OK), it returns me to Form1, but what hook do I have in Form1 to receive the manipulated class data that the ShowDialog method is returning?Here's an example of what I'm thinking about:

I have a form and from this I call

which launchs my dialog. I need to pass a string value and need the easiest way to do this in VB.NET .
I often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.

The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.

I don't ever have to write anything in VB.NET.But I am passing variables named "name" to a function and sometimes it may be 1 name or 2 names, etc. I want to check in the function if its only 1 name don't add a comma, if it's 2 names add a comma. Is there a way to get how many "names" there are?

I'm working on integrating my companies back-end system with paypal, on our current website.I have done paypal integration before, but this company is a middle-ware provider that allows us to hold an order until it ships.They have provided a very low-level example of implementation, but leaves some gaps in a true implementation on a back-end system. I am writting a VB .net (3.5) applivcation which references a COM object. I can call methods on the COM object fine provided that they don't require any variables to be passed. I have been told that you can only pass a maximum of one varaible to a COM object, I really don't believe that it true

I am developing an VB.NET application that reads data from the serial port and tcp socket, then I'm processing this data and store it in Database server. This application will be started all the time as long as the computer is started. On the server there is installed an apache server with some php scripts representing the "visual interface". From there the users can see the readed data from the VB app. The need is when an event appear in the apache server (such as button pressed), some data to be passed to the running VB app, and eventually trigger an event on it. I've considered some variants like start an timer that reads continuously some tables from the database that the php script writes onto, or read an xml ot text file, but I think that this may slower the communication and it is a source of exceptions or errors.
For example: An user opens a webpage, just to say test.php. On the page there is a button. The user pushes the button. The result of pushing the button has to trigger an event on the VB app and cause sending data trough the serial port or tcp socket. OR - The VB app has a timer that scans for pressing the button on the test.php.
I'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.

My project has a single dataset with about 6 datatables. Each of those datatables has a TableAdapater and a Bindingsource on the main form (due to various databound controls).
Now, I want to have a second form for adding a new record. If I bind the controls to the datasource it creates new TableAdapaters and new Bindingsources on that form. I was wondering if it's possible to simply use the ones from the main form instead like this

I have one form, which the user enters upto 5 websites then clicks go - I have on the second form, the one with the webbrowser. timer which checks if the web browser is busy then either a green light or black image will be shown along side the assocaited input box on the first form. I am finding it impossible to feed variables into the clock through ByVal, like I would a subroutine or function.
