I am writting a VB .net (3.5) applivcation which references a COM object. I can call methods on the COM object fine provided that they don't require any variables to be passed. I have been told that you can only pass a maximum of one varaible to a COM object, I really don't believe that it true

I am developing an VB.NET application that reads data from the serial port and tcp socket, then I'm processing this data and store it in Database server. This application will be started all the time as long as the computer is started. On the server there is installed an apache server with some php scripts representing the "visual interface". From there the users can see the readed data from the VB app. The need is when an event appear in the apache server (such as button pressed), some data to be passed to the running VB app, and eventually trigger an event on it. I've considered some variants like start an timer that reads continuously some tables from the database that the php script writes onto, or read an xml ot text file, but I think that this may slower the communication and it is a source of exceptions or errors.
For example: An user opens a webpage, just to say test.php. On the page there is a button. The user pushes the button. The result of pushing the button has to trigger an event on the VB app and cause sending data trough the serial port or tcp socket. OR - The VB app has a timer that scans for pressing the button on the test.php.
I currently need to build a Automation Add-in for Excel. This add-in will load a recordset from Database to Excel. I would like to have function A() that I input in Cell as a formular. This function A() call a the add-in to load the data from Database to Excel. The data should be a matrix. So that means I would like to set in Excel worksheet a range of data by just calling single function in a cell. (I am sure there should be some way to implement it)As I know if I develop a shared Add-in by VB(or VB.Net) and in the add-in, I can get an Object of Excel.Application. By this Excel.Application object, I can get full control of Excel inside the Add-in. That means if I define a sub that load datamatrix from database and using the Excel.Application object I can populate the data matrix to the Excel.
I have done much research on internet and I now have built a shared Add-in for excel. I should say this add-in works fine without invoke the Excel.Application Object that I have tested. But when I call the Add-in function that invode Excel.Application Object from Excel I got an error as below:

I've implemented the localization in my windows application with no problem for the label or command button which have a fixed text.
My problem is related to the label which text is merged with some variables or object properties.
E.g.: vb label1.text = "There are " & myDataGridView.Rows.Count.ToString() & " items"
So, how can I set (if it's possible) the localization for these labels? I've this kind of assignment in modules and not in the form. It's possible to set a resources file also for modules?
I am working on a application that has quite a few functions involved and have been thinking of the following: If I have a function that has a few paramaters, is it more efficient to pass the objects to the function(Example 1) or reference the objects in the parent(Example 2)? Does it matter if the objects are large or not?

I've got 3 forms that have exactly the same functions, so I decided to create an interface.

At this point, objfrmExample is now instantiated, even though I've not done a "objfrmExpample = new [what-goes-here?] " and I'm curious as to why.I could possibly guess that because you cannot instantiate an interface variable, then vb.net automatically creates an instance. But thats just a guess. The question is , what is meant by declaring a variable of type Interface, and how does it work?
if this is a dumb question. I don't ever have to write anything in VB.NET.But I am passing variables named "name" to a function and sometimes it may be 1 name or 2 names, etc. I want to check in the function if its only 1 name don't add a comma, if it's 2 names add a comma. Is there a way to get how many "names" there are?

I'm working on integrating my companies back-end system with paypal, on our current website.I have done paypal integration before, but this company is a middle-ware provider that allows us to hold an order until it ships.They have provided a very low-level example of implementation, but leaves some gaps in a true implementation on a back-end system. I'm developing a web application that requires the user to log in using forms authentication. inside the webpage you need to download a desktop application that requires to login to the same system too. Is there a way to transfer the current logged credentials from the web application to the windows desktop application without need to login again?. Both applications shares a Login object from an vb.net interface.I tried to save the IP address in the Database but that don't work for me because the website needs to be accessed inside and/or outside of the company and the user cannot login twice in different machines.

Later a new object will be passed to my function and most of the time it will be identical. But sometimes one or two variables will be different and I'll have to take various actions based on those changes. Other than looping through every variable and comparing it to every stored version of that variable, how might I do this? Can I some how generate a hash value for an entire object? Since the object will be the same most if the times it is passed to me this would be a quick way to determine that nothing has changed.

This DB.Save method will be a long case function that implements the proper SQL commands based on the type of attributes possessed by the input parameter object.how do I implement the SaveToDB method in my Shape class? Is it something like this:

The goal here is to let each shape save itself without it knowing anything about database operations; I want to isolate db-specific information in my intermediary DB object, so the DB object will have to figure out what type of object wants to be saved into the SQL database and then execute whatever SQL instructions are needed. And then if I override the SaveToDB method in each shape subclass, I can avoid the case statement entirely, replacing it with a series of unique methods such as db.SaveCircle (ob), db.SaveSquare (ob), etc., sincle the caller already knows what it is.

We have a few applications that will be passing a token object around and I wanted to get an idea about the best approach at doing this.
For starters, this token object is somewhat simple. It would have about 5 properties or so.
Would we create a WCF app and reference it through a datacontract?What about serializing it and sending it through an http post? (each app have a referenced dll of the object)Querystring? (I truly don't think this would be good, but put it up nonetheless)?
