I want to pass a few variables to another page. Currently I'm using response.redirect and passing the variables in the url. I'm not really interested in using Session Variables. Is there a way to pass hidden variables in .NET to a completely different form?

So I am working on a project for class. I first hit a bump when I could not figure out how to get this to count the number of times the button was clicked. Now I have hit a road block. View 14 RepliesWhen working with a collection of forms that the user must step through, is it better to pass the data foward when creating a new instance of that form, or is it better to call a function from the previous form? I have some code written that calls the previous routine, and it looks ugly, and I can't quite think of a reason why it was done that way. The only reason I could come up with was if the data was large, and there was a good chance that the user wouldn't use the data except in a special case.

The values for the hidden fields are already set. I want these value to open a window, in which the fields will be already filled using the values passed by this page. This code is working fine on Internet Explorer, but not on other browsers. Moreover, when I don't pass any value and just open the required window, it works on all browsers.

View 1 RepliesI have a form that I use to get the user to input such as a username and password in order to make a network connection. This connection can be disconnected and reconnected as many times as neccessary whilst the application continues to run.
I obviously, therefore, need the form's text boxes, combo boxes etc to reset to their blank versions every time that the form is shown.
In VB6 this was easy; you just unload the form which completely removed the form from memory and thus the next time you showed it it was reset to it's blank state. In VB 2005, however, there is no unload so we have to use Close. I have done this and assumed that it would function in the same was that unload did in VB6.
The problem is that when I close the form using the form.close event handler the form disappears perfectly but when the form.show/showdialog is used the old form data still remains telling me that the form hasn't actually been unloaded but rather appears to have just been hidden.
When i dim a variable as a form and then close it ( frm2.close() ) then just the form window will be closed. How can i close the form completely so that everything like a timer will be closed too?

I'm practicing creating a website for a test, although I am having trouble passing varialbes between the webpage with which the user logs in, and the web page in which the user sees/amends their details (it's an online bank).

if this is a dumb question. I don't ever have to write anything in VB.NET.But I am passing variables named "name" to a function and sometimes it may be 1 name or 2 names, etc. I want to check in the function if its only 1 name don't add a comma, if it's 2 names add a comma. Is there a way to get how many "names" there are?

I'm working on integrating my companies back-end system with paypal, on our current website.I have done paypal integration before, but this company is a middle-ware provider that allows us to hold an order until it ships.They have provided a very low-level example of implementation, but leaves some gaps in a true implementation on a back-end system. They have each method, essentially, have it's own aspx page that sends data to a page, that contains a javascript that autoposts to a url, with 3 hidden variables.

I am writting a VB .net (3.5) applivcation which references a COM object. I can call methods on the COM object fine provided that they don't require any variables to be passed. I have been told that you can only pass a maximum of one varaible to a COM object, I really don't believe that it true

It will test the other programme, which is a Bid Tabulation programme allowing up to 10 Supplier Quotes each one having up to 500 line items; handling mixed currencies; many additional lines of specific information; etc.; using any combination of Suppliers and Line Items.However, I thought that I would let you know about some of the things I had to do to make it run.Obviously, the programme can bring up the Bid Tabulation programme very quickly, and then moves on to obtain the handle of the first form. But I had to insert a timing delay in order for the programme to report that it had found the handle; I also had to add the same delay all over the programme in order to see a valid handle number instead of "0".In addition to this I had to cycle through the ChildHandles, as you had indicated in order to get to the handle I needed. This raised another problem. I wanted to enter information in the same sequence as the tab order, but I found that the ChildHandle order was all over the place; generally back to front. In other words the tab order which went from top to bottom, and left to right, whereas the ChildHandle order was sometimes all over the place.
Is there a simple method of rearranging the ChildHandle order, as there is for arranging the tab order? I had to reformat several of my forms in order that entries would make sense. Imagine the table below is a form with 23 TextBoxes. The order that I need them to be filled is from top to bottom, and left to right, but the actual order of the TextBoxes is as below: [code] This message does not really require a resolution to a problem, unless there is a way of re-ordering the handles without having to completely reformat the form.
I have a gridview and use a session to pass the variables from the page to an edit page. This works perfectly, until you search for a number. When you search the correct record displays in gridview, but when you click edit, it passes the wrong record.

I am developing an VB.NET application that reads data from the serial port and tcp socket, then I'm processing this data and store it in Database server. This application will be started all the time as long as the computer is started. On the server there is installed an apache server with some php scripts representing the "visual interface". From there the users can see the readed data from the VB app. The need is when an event appear in the apache server (such as button pressed), some data to be passed to the running VB app, and eventually trigger an event on it. I've considered some variants like start an timer that reads continuously some tables from the database that the php script writes onto, or read an xml ot text file, but I think that this may slower the communication and it is a source of exceptions or errors.
For example: An user opens a webpage, just to say test.php. On the page there is a button. The user pushes the button. The result of pushing the button has to trigger an event on the VB app and cause sending data trough the serial port or tcp socket. OR - The VB app has a timer that scans for pressing the button on the test.php.
how to ensure that a form stays on-screen completely and cannot be dragged outside the bounds of the window.
This is because the user needs to be able to completely see the form without any of it being cut off.
I have a tool window that I want to stay above the main application form, but not stay on top of all windows forms. Similar to the floating properties window for visual studio - it always stays on top of the main VS window, but if I select another program, like internet explorer, the floating properties window will be behind internet explorer.
What I have is an application that has several forms that may be displayed at the same time. I have a Messages form that displays messages generated by the code in the form, that gives the status of the application. Obviously, the user would not normally be working on this form, but they may want it to be visible to see the status messages from the program (File saved confirmations, etc). So, my two options right now are I can set the form to be on top of all other windows forms or, when the user clicks on the main application form, the messages form would be hidden by the main form.
I want to make 5 attachment options in that 4 out of the 5 are hidden.but when he clicks "more attachment" link it will show the other 4.Im using ASP.NET with VB?

View 1 RepliesI have made a validation application, the application runs in the tray and responds to events of another app such as save document, on this event my application runs, validates the document and creates a pop up message of errors in the document. However the pop-up is hidden behind the other application, the other application is locked because it is waiting for my app to finish. I have tried combinations of show(),activate(),bringtofront () with no success i have also tried SetForegroundWindow() and SwitchToThis Window() for win api but with these the app still just flashes orange in the taskbar behind the other application which is locked.I think it is almost definatly a problem with stealing focus from the other application but im not trying to make an annoying pop-up, it is needed and only appears when there are problems with the document the other application is locked and will not respond untill okay is clicked on the pop-up and it is easy to miss the flashing icon in the taskbar
