My goal is to make it a multiple XML levels that even grandChild will show, as the sample output below. How can I achieve this using List ollection looping. What I'm trying to do is to count the number of items. Then I start my counter at 0. For each time the counter goes up, I add another row from the list box. and loops until my counter reaches the number of items in my listbox. I'm stuck intTotal. The only way I know of adding the totals is lstCosts.Items(0)+lstCosts.Items(1)+lstCosts.Items(3). But what if the user enters 4 numbers? I can't find a way around that. I think this should be a very simple question and I think only this line needs to be changed.

Mar 27, 2009I've given up on my harder stuff and have simplified it to something else. There are no errors that pop up now but the list box doesn't populate! I took the code from a book and there's a data adapter, data connection, and data set on the form already (they're not named in this code though, since the book didn't say to). When the program opens, the list box has a line of text in it and the list box doesn't fill with the right items.

Apr 13, 2011I come from Access and I am developing now my first windows form app in visual basic 2010 based on a Access database *.mdb. The thing is i have an access db with 5 tables. I have created the forms, connected to the database, all is working great. Parent- child relations are working, datagrids and comboboxes populate the right way, buttons are working.
But now I want to populate listbox, and combox from tables with queries. Like in access I would like, for example to populate two different listboxes bound to the same table with different queries, so that the listboxes give different results, based on different variables or textboxes.
But I don't know how to attack the problem: the query works against the tableadapter, so the info it gives back is always the same. I have tried to duplicate the tableadapter of the table i want to query, writing different sql queries in both, but it does not seem to work. I don't know in what direction I should ivestigate: LINQ, sql queriess, coded queries, filtering the listbox...

Inherit From ListBox ObjectCollection Collection?
Jan 12, 2010I'm in the process of creating my own version of the Combo Box as MS version does not give me the flexibility I need, this is work fine. I just had a little niggle
The List box contains/uses ObjectCollection to hold all its objects, but it does not have the facility to inform by the way of events that an item has been added etc.
If I inherited from this collection could I add the necessary code to make this happen, I have done this in my previous controls I�ve created when I wanted this facility.

May 17, 2012Currently, I have a listbox lstInventory where I have loaded some database information from a .mdb file. I am able to add new records, and they all display correctly.
Yet, I can't seem to retrieve or access any of the listbox items. (Not trying to reaccess database in here, yet). I am hoping to "Edit" an existing database record by matching it to the lstInventory's selecteditem property. Unfortunately, I am not able to retrieve anything (tried traditional CType(lstInventory.selecteditem.ToString, String) approach, as well as a debug.write approach (which I can't seem to display, even with a Listener-which is another issue in itself).
Furthermore, when I check the listbox.items.count property, it prints out as a "0" [using a messagebox.show()]
I have tried searching multiple forums, but found lots of "database into listbox" threads, and the MSDN website hasn't helped me yet. Do I need to know the collection's name (what would it's name be based on ?)? Or am I not converting the object into a printable/countable quantity?

I have four textboxs, and two listbox's. The first listbox lists all the categories which i have managed to do. Now when the user selects a catelgory a list of objects under that category are listed in the second listbox which the user then selects to display any related data and this is the problem i am having.

Aug 23, 2010I am trying to populate an array from a listbox.My listbox items contain something like this:
1 for January
10 for February
3 for March
I have code in place and it was working, but I am taking the first character of the listbox item to populate the array. If the value of the listbox is 10 for February, I need to get 10, not just 1. Can I do something with the string that says I want to trim everything from the space to the end? Since they are all formatted the same way, if I could trim out anything from the space on, that would work.
Here's what I currently have:

Dec 30, 2009I'm trying to get a listbox to populate a list of processes that are neither running nor in the "blocked" list. This code is in a timer, so it also checks if the process is already in the list.
