Potential Database Stored Over A Server

Nov 10, 2010

I am developing an application that runs on a network. It needs to contact to database (access database) very very often, which is stored in server. Around 30 Client computers contact the database almost every 2-3 seconds. I need to know could there be potential manifest problem in with the application? Could there will be a problem if database is being updated by one client, at the same time other client contacts it?

Researching A .dll File For Potential Cause Of Exception?

Oct 26, 2011

I've been having difficulties with a Win32Exception related to the Drawing.dll. After many man-hours of research and a couple creative attempts to work around it, I'm left with the likelihood that the cause of my angst rests with a .dll file provided by the vendor of the database against which I'm querying and through which I'm attempting to post updates. The vendor stated that the .dll wasn't designed with VB 2008 in mind. Though the .dll still posts the data, it's possible that something in its function is causing hiccups with the redrawing of my form and its associated treeview.

Ado.net And Sql Server Stored Procedures?

Jul 25, 2009

Some question about Ado.net and SQL Server stored procedures. We have a stored procedure in SQL Server as described below

Procedure dob.PendingCalls
@UsID As Char(10), @Sts As Integer OUTPUT , @Msg As VarChar(100) OUTPUT
AS
Begin

[code]....

we are using vb.net in visual studio 2003. Now if ExecuteNonQuery is used then we do not get rows. If ExecuteReader is used then we get rows [ with forward-only access which is of no use to us] but we cannot get output parameters values returned by stored procedure?

What I am trying to do is if the clubcard parameter is found and status is active I would like the label to read 'card is good' also if the clubcard parameter is found however is inactive then the label should read 'card is good but not active' last if all those fail just have the label read 'card not in system'As of right now this code does not work I thought I could just call the stored procedure and exec it and it would print the statements depending on what passes however it is erroring out. When I debug it the error I get is under the cmd.parameters.add is

Does Making A Class NotInheritable In .NET Offer The Same (potential) Compiler Optimizations As Sealed In C#?

Jan 11, 2010

I've read that making a class sealed in C# is advisable in high-performance scenarios because it frees the compiler to make certain optimizations (e.g., inlining property getters) that it wouldn't be able to make otherwise. Is the same true for NotInheritable in VB.NET?

ASP.NET: Retrieve Information From SQL Server Via Stored Procedure?

Jun 3, 2012

Created an XSD file that represents my table structure from my database. Created a class file to hold my functions such as the one below.

Code sample:

Public Function GetUser(ByVal UserID As String) As xsdUser.UserDataTable
Dim SqlConn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MyDatabase").ConnectionString)

[Code]....

Now it seems odd to me to have two files doing what should be contained within just one file. I feel like I should have one class file called "User" and have member variables in there along with the class functions like the one above. But all the tutorials I see are using these data tables. On top of that I'm not sure how to handle the if statement at the end of the function. I don't think I would want to return a whole DataTable since I should only have one row, and I also don't know how I would handle an error if my function is supposed to return a data table. I suppose I could return an empty one and then if the table is empty in my code then I would handle it there, but this also seems messy.

Is this the common way of retrieving information from a stored procedure? Or is there a more up-to-date method that I'm not seeing in my search results?

One of the things that I am not sure is that I want to check the value that the user passes throuhg my application that I am creating. Sql Server - Migrating Stored Procedures Into Application

Jul 22, 2010

All of those disadvantages of stored procedures (database portability etc.) I am now facing. We are going to migrate our VB.Net/ASP/SQL Server application to something like Mono/Postgresql and fully internationalize.

One of the many issues we face is that we have 800-900 stored procedures. What we are thinking of doing is moving the logic in these SP's in to the application code. I have searched around for how people have done this or how it can be done however I have found very little. Most of the info on stored procedures is about what should be in them etc. So I have come to the conclusion that the best way to approach this is to leave the SQL retrieve/update type queries as stored procedures and move the ones with business logic in to the application.

SQL Server 2008 Stored Procedure With DateTime2

Aug 19, 2011

I have a small question about stored procedures and the DateTime2 datatype in SQL Server 2008.

I got several stored procedures using the DateTime2 datatype and I want to insert the date 0001.01.01 00:00:00 but this won't work with VB.net and I cannot find the reason why.

I use this code fragment:

Dim sqlStatement As New SqlClient.SqlCommand
Dim sqlTransaction As SqlClient.SqlTransaction
sqlStatement.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

[Code]....

to call the stored procedures from my program (the stored procedure is a simple INSERT statement nothing else and works fine with actual dates). But when I enter the date 0001.01.01 00:00:00 it always comes up with the error that I cannot insert dates before '01.01.1753' when I want to execute the stored procedure.

Now I already know that the DateTime2 datatype in SQL Server should support this.

So my question is it possible that this is a driver problem and updating the SQLClient would solve this, or is this a general problem and I can finally stop searching and just use 1753.01.01.

.net - C# - Code Contracts - Detected Expression Statement Evaluated For Potential Side-effect?

Jan 20, 2012

I have a class with a static list of keys, and I have a static method called Remove() that removes a key from that list.Now what I understand from the contracts post conditions is that as the programmer of the class, I guarantee that the current public method does something specific, in this case : removing the element of the list.

Here's what I've written:

private static List<Keys> m_usedKeys; // private list of keys
public static void Remove(Keys _key)
{

[code]....

What I'm trying to "Ensure" here, is that the Remove() method removes the key for real from the list (Yes this might be a trivial example, but I get the error there.)when I write the Contract.Ensures() line, VS2010 gives me the following error :

Error 3 Detected expression statement evaluated for potential side-effect in contracts of method 'LibJungleTimer.KeyBind.Remove(System.Windows.Forms.Keys)'. (Did you mean to put the expression into a Requires, Ensures, or Invariant call?) C:UsersJoelDocumentsProgrammationJTJungleTimerLibJungleTimerKeyBind.cs 51

I think this error says that the expression m_usedKeys.remove(_key); has a potential side-effect. In fact, it has a side-effect, it removes a key from the list!If I try to write something like this instead :

Contract.Assert(!m_usedKeys.Any(x => x == _key));

well it compiles fine.
