Process.MainModule.FileName: "Only Part Of A ReadProcessMemory Or WriteProcessMemory Request Was Completed"

Jun 1, 2008

I have searched google with this error in relation to Process.MainModule.FileName however none link with the error message, "Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed".There however was one thread on these forums suggest a 64 bit issue however that was soon excluded as it was reported also in a 32 bit enviroment. The marked answer to that thread suggested it is a security problem however I don't think anything has been changed in relation to that comapred to a 'clean' project.

"If it is a security problem, you may try to run your application under the debugger" Process.MainModule failure I am in-fact debugging this application through Visual Studio so I am not quite sure what to do next in the process of diagnosing this problem. I am debugging using 32 bit in a 64 bit enviroment because of DirectX compatability issues?

Howt To Use WriteProcessMemory And ReadProcessMemory

Jun 24, 2009

This is again something work in VBA while VB2008 not working..I was about to use them to read lines from a listview of an external application...I define them as:

Private Declare Function WriteProcessMemory Lib "kernel32 " (ByVal hProcess As Int32, ByVal lpBaseAddress As Int32, ByRef lpBuffer As IntPtr, ByVal nSize As Int32, ByVal lpNumberOfBytesWritten As Int32) As Int32
Private Declare Function ReadProcessMemory Lib "kernel32 " (ByVal hProcess As Int32, ByVal lpBaseAddress As Int32, ByRef lpBuffer As IntPtr, ByVal nSize As Int32, ByVal lpNumberOfBytesWritten As Int32) As Int32

Originally, lpBuffer was defined as Any, while VB2008 not supporting it, so I make them IntPtr, then I got trouble when I use them..I declare a structure LV_ITEMA then dim myItem as new LV_ITEMA, so when I write:

WriteProcessMemory(pHandle, pMyItemMemory, myItem, Len(myItem), 0)

The program will give an error saying .. Error 1 Value of type 'WindowsApplication1.Module1.LV_ITEMA' cannot be converted to 'System.IntPtr'.

VS 2008 : Proc.MainModule.FileName Has Repeated File Path

Dec 25, 2009

in my program, i use that code for getting the file path of a process, once it gets the path, it is put into a list view which has details like the task manager. the code works fine the first time, but with a little bug that is, when it reaches the vhost of my program. For some reason, it just copies the file path of my program even though the process has changed. After the code has gone through, i want it to refresh the list so as doing the same as when loaded...so I let it refresh and once again it copies the path of the vhost, but this time it has basically taken over every process' location. So in turn, I only get returned my programs location, for something like the task managers location, where it would be like "C:Windowssystem32skmgr.exe"

Here's the

VB
Private Sub frmmain_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim Process As New Process()
Dim Count As Integer = 0

[code]....

The refresh code is frmmain_Load(Nothing, Nothing) just to make things easy for me right now, while i get that part of the program going. To me it seems to be working fine, but why it does that what it does, im not sure. as you can see, the process changes. and Ive even checked it through run time, and each and every time, the process.processname changes.

C# - Implementing An Algorithm To Read A Foreign Process Memory Using OpenProcess And ReadProcessMemory

Aug 26, 2009

I'm having some problems implementing an algorithm to read a foreign process' memory. Here is the main code:

[Code]...

Although generally it seems to work correctly, the problem is that for some memory values ReadProcessMemory is returning false, and GetLastError is returning 299. From what I've googled, it seems to happen on vista because some params of OpenProcess were updated. Anyone knows what this is about? And what values should I try? Notice that as they changed, I wouldn't want to know if it's VM_READ or so, I want to know exactly what the values are.

The Process Cannot Access The File 'FILENAME' Because It Is Being Used By Another Process - Error

Aug 31, 2009

How can i access a file through FileStream which is being used by a window service. Actually i am trying to access a file which is also being used by our window service. I need to read data from this file. I am using below code but also getting following error:

Code:
Dim fs1 As IO.FileStream = New IO.FileStream(psPath, IO.FileMode.Open, IO.FileAccess.Read, IO.FileShare.Read)
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(fs1)
sData = sr.ReadToEnd

Error: The process cannot access the file 'FILENAME' because it is being used by another process.

I tried changing FileShare.Read parameter to FileShare.None but it didn't work out. I also read below post which says that it is not possible but i think there is a way to read it like if you open a file through Firefox but still window service is accessing it.

Find Out When The Process Is Completed?

Sep 25, 2009

I have to install whole bunch of self extracting files every now and then.. so, I was trying to automate the process...

Using process.start ("filename"), i was able to run the exe file. After that i send Alt U to Unzip the content.. Finally the Self Extractor sends message "xx files unzipped successfully..." or similar...

Now, how do I find out the the extraction is completed or the msgbox "xx files unzipped successfully..." popped up ? (I don't like to go thru the window title as there might be other thing going on...)

C# - Kill Process Started With System.Diagnostic.Process.Start("FileName")

Oct 2, 2010

I am trying to create an app that will perform actions on specific times (much like the Windows Task Scheduler). I am currently using Process.Start() to lunch the file (or exe) required by the task. I am initiating a process by calling a file (an .mp3) and the process starts WMP (since it is the default application), so far so good. Now I wan't to kill that process. I know that it is normal behavior for the Process.Start(string, string) to return nothing (null in C#) in this case. So I am asking how can i close WMP when I called it through Process.Start(string, string)??

File I/O And Registry :: Filename Currently Being Used By Another Process

Jun 11, 2009

I get the common error: " 'File Name' is currently being used by another process..."

My problem is that I have two forms. If the file doesn't exist in the one then it creates the file and opens up the other form, if the file exists it doesn't do anything, however, in the other form that it opens up I have it "attempting" to write text via StreamWriter. But my problem occurs when the StreamWriter tries to open the file for writing, that is when the program tells me that the file is currently being used by the other process.

In my first form I close the form via Form.Close and all I am using to create the file is System.IO.File.Create. Now I know that the System.IO.File.Create is causing the error because I have this process checking the very first thing on the program load. I am trying to find a work around the System.IO.File.Create but no luck here... I am trying to create a .txt ... lets say test.txt .

Quick query...I'm trying to scan a long string and return any values that occur between the tags <FileName> and </FileName> I've got a bit of code here to use regular expressions to return the position of the occurunces of both substrings..Just wanted to find out if there is any way to scan for both substrings within one loop (as im currently doing 2, one for the first substring and one for the 2nd) so I can use something along these lines:

ringlist = Mid(XMLRESP, (startloc + 1), (endloc - 1))
MsgBox(ringlist)

to msg box the value between the substrings...either that or another approach to return the value between the 2 substrings (it can be of variable length)

I want to extract just the path and serialize that to the user.config file as a UserSetting value. Then next time the user opens the dialog box, it uses that saved path string to go immediately to the location previously used.

[2008 ] Read/WriteProcessMemory In Minesweeper?

Jan 31, 2009

I'm trying to Read Minesweeper's Process Memory, At a certain Address and i want to write to that address then read it again and check to see if the writing is successful.

I've been trying to use WriteProcessMemory and ReadProcessMemory, But it seems that I don't know how to make WriteProcess write properly, and I have almost know clue as to how Readprocessmemory works. I just tried reading the exact same things as i was writing.

What I decided on designing was too make a Program that will Hook the program in Textbox1.text (winmine) and then write the NOP's from textbox2.text (Whatever that is) to the ADDRESS specifiyed in the Textbox3.text. Then textbox4.text is just byte's written(I still have yet to figure out what that is in WriteProcess).

So far, It successfully hooks the Application, But it does not write it, and Yes, I d have the proper address, and I'm writing the proper NOP's.

This is my

Private Declare Function ReadProcessMemory Lib "kernel32" (ByVal hProcess As Long, ByVal lpBaseAddress As Object, ByVal lpBuffer As Object, ByVal nSize As Long, ByVal lpNumberOfBytesWritten As Long) As Long

Get The FileName For The Proces.Start(FileName) Method?

May 27, 2009

I have a Listview on my form with different files. I can selet a file en open it with the proces start method. To open the file i use the OpenFileDialog method and select the filename. This work very good. With the code below.

My question is if there is a method to get the selected file without using the OpenFileDialog Box. So when i dubbelclick the selected file the proces will start with open the selected file. Something like:

proc.StartInfo.FileName = Me.SelectedCell.FileName
instead of proc.StartInfo.FileName = Me.OpenFileDialog1.FileName

PS) May be i can preduce the Filename using the OpenFileDialog method on the background.
