Delete Multiple Files Using Wildcard Where Part Of Filename Is Fixed
Nov 5, 2010
have a script which puts multiple files into a folder periodically. I have a code to delete file. this code should run but gives me error that file does not exist.
' for each objFile1 in FSO.GetFolder(strPath2&""&acctdir&""&acctsubdir).Files
' acctno1 = Mid(objFile1.Name,1,11)
' if acctno1 = acctno then
searching a directory for a file, and if it doesn't find that file to search again for a similar file and notify the user that a image does exist but for a different revision.
Sub GVC_Photo() Dim photostr As String = "R:itemphotosp_" Dim photostr2 As String = "R:itemphotosp_" Dim photostr3 As String = "R:itemphotosp_" Dim photostr4 As String = "R:itemphotosp_"
[code]....
This code snippet is used in a program called SyteLine, so some of it may be unfamiliar, but its .net based. The item and revision are fed through from the form, so when the string gets built it might look something like this "R:itemphotosp_22554_B_01.jpg" with "22554" being the item, "B" being the revision, and "01" being the image number. So what I want is if it cannot find a file name with revision B in it, to search for a filename with any revision it it "R:itemphotosp_22554_*_01.jpg", if it finds one to display a message that a non-current photo exists, and if it can't find that, to display a message saying there is no photo.
My VB project is large enough that it requires several files. It was originally developed as a Console App and I created each file as a MODULE. All modules could use subroutines, data structures and constants from other MODULES and everything worked fine. I needed to add basic windowing to the app and this required that the app be converted from a Console App to a Windows Forms App. The main window is Form1 which is not a MODULE but a CLASS. The problem is that some MODULE based functions cannot access subroutines, data and constants that are defined within the CLASS Form1 unless they are incorporated into the CLASS file and this makes the CLASS file very large. If I add a new Class file to the project, it also cannot interoperate with Class Form1 in the same way that multi-MODULE code interoperates.
How does one spread CLASS code across several files and still allow it to interoperate as if it were in a single file? Alternatively, how does one create several CLASS files that operate the way multiple MODULE files operate.I am sure that there are all kinds of best practices that I am violating but the goal to to get some prototype software working and interfaced to some lab equipment.
I was trying to do something like this (that worked with the Kill method of VB6) System.IO.File.Delete(OrderInfo.ParentFolderPath & "NJ0*.DTA") because there are several files that start with NJ0 and end with .DTA
I am trying to delete multiple files (.reg files) by using following code.
Quote:
My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(Environ("%systemdrive%") & "*.reg")ut its is generating an exception: Argument Exception was Unhandled.Illegal Characters in path.
I have certain files that need deleted every time I run my program. There are some files that start with f. and then end with .00000668 or .00005396 and so on. Here is my coding that is not working to delete the f files.
I am trying to replace a string which is actually different from line to line in a text file. I want to end up with a filename but without the path. For example:
My text file contains: C: est estingmorefilename.mpg C: est estfiles1 estfile4.mpg W: estinglocation estingmore estfiles9.mpg
I have backup folder where I store the images while loading them.So I need to delete the image from the backup folder when deleted from the checked listbox.[code]...
I have searched google with this error in relation to Process.MainModule.FileName however none link with the error message, "Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed".There however was one thread on these forums suggest a 64 bit issue however that was soon excluded as it was reported also in a 32 bit enviroment. The marked answer to that thread suggested it is a security problem however I don't think anything has been changed in relation to that comapred to a 'clean' project.
"If it is a security problem, you may try to run your application under the debugger" Process.MainModule failure I am in-fact debugging this application through Visual Studio so I am not quite sure what to do next in the process of diagnosing this problem. I am debugging using 32 bit in a 64 bit enviroment because of DirectX compatability issues?
I have a requirement to create multiple fixed length files so that I can use the files for testing in another application. The following code causes an error when run.
I'm trying to add a printer as part of my install and then remove that printer as part of the uninstall, and I'm not having much luck. I can add the printer using a shell command and the "printUI.dll" but when I try to use the addprinter() from the windows API, nothing happens. When I try to delete a test printer with the deleteprinter() function, it executes fine... but doesn't actually remove the printer. Everything I've been able to find on it seems to indicate that my code is right, but obviously I'm missing something because its not working.
VB Module Module1 Public Declare Auto Function OpenPrinter Lib "winspool.drv" _ (ByVal pPrinterName As String, _ ByRef phPrinter As IntPtr, _ ByVal pDefault As PrinterDefaults) As Int32 [Code] .....
I am using open file dialog on my windows form. In the directory, there are all txt files but what I would like to do is to filter those txt files that does not contain XML in the filename. Is there a way to do it?
What I want to do is to replace lets say ##test## with Something(test)..I know that I can find ##test## by: (Though don't know whether there's a smarter way)
1) I'm dragging a file (.txt) into a rtb which works fine, but how do I get the filename? (messagebox whatever)
2) How do I restrict files to drop? (like a .exe)
vb.net If e.Data.GetDataPresent(DataFormats.FileDrop) Then Dim Files() As String Files = e.Data.GetData(DataFormats.FileDrop) Dim sReader As New StreamReader(Files(0))
I'm trying to create a function to extract the filename and number from saved files where the filename and number is not known before hand. I successfully created this example but the file name in the example is hardcoded. My program creates backup files and numbers them starting a one. I want to extract the saved files and list them in a treelist by filename only.ie.. unknown filename 1, backup 1, saved file 1, saved file 2, here is what i have but it only retrieves the hardcoded filename.
I encountered the error:The process cannot access the file <full file path> because it is being used by another process.during System.IO.File.Delete(filename)I have opened the file using:pctPhoto.Image = Image.FromFile(filename)before I delete the file.
Quick query...I'm trying to scan a long string and return any values that occur between the tags <FileName> and </FileName> I've got a bit of code here to use regular expressions to return the position of the occurunces of both substrings..Just wanted to find out if there is any way to scan for both substrings within one loop (as im currently doing 2, one for the first substring and one for the 2nd) so I can use something along these lines:
to msg box the value between the substrings...either that or another approach to return the value between the 2 substrings (it can be of variable length)
Dim patternstart As String = "<FileName>" Dim patternend As String = "</FileName>" Dim matchesstart As MatchCollection = Regex.Matches(XMLRESP, patternstart)
How would I do that? Sample code is below that demonstrated that the file I opened contained the full path and file name.
I want to extract just the path and serialize that to the user.config file as a UserSetting value. Then next time the user opens the dialog box, it uses that saved path string to go immediately to the location previously used.
If openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then Properties.Settings.Default.persistConnectionType = openFileDialog1.FileName Properties.Settings.Default.Save();
OK I was a little hasty in marking my earlier thread resolved... I'm sending a file from my server using the following code :
[Code]...
The received file (in my test case it is a PNG file) comes through corrupted - I'm 99.99% sure its a case of encoding but I've tried various options and in each case when I open the original file and the received file in notepad the files are visibly of the same origin but some characters are wrong in the received file. I'm sure its a simple answer but I can't find it - what am I doing wrong in terms of re-assembling the received file?
I have a Listview on my form with different files. I can selet a file en open it with the proces start method. To open the file i use the OpenFileDialog method and select the filename. This work very good. With the code below.
My question is if there is a method to get the selected file without using the OpenFileDialog Box. So when i dubbelclick the selected file the proces will start with open the selected file. Something like:
proc.StartInfo.FileName = Me.SelectedCell.FileName instead of proc.StartInfo.FileName = Me.OpenFileDialog1.FileName
PS) May be i can preduce the Filename using the OpenFileDialog method on the background.
Private Sub ListView1_MouseDoubleClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles ListView1.MouseDoubleClick If Me.OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then
I have a website that has highly granulised access and hence requires many web.config files. The problem is I would like to trim the menu so that only certain users will have access to certain folders. I have enabled trimming and setup roles in the sitemap, however when I access the page the menu is not show, as I am authorized to view the default page which is not in a subfolder. When I type the url of a page in sub folder's I have access.
How should I handle this:
A site map for each web.config file - don't know how this will work Removing the sub web.config file to only use a single one
I know this is out there and probably illogical but I was wondering if it was possible to take multiple picture files and compact them into one file.... and then retrieve them from the program later? Way to combine any amount of image files into one file
Module Module1 Sub combine() Dim img1 As New Bitmap("i1.jpg")
I am trying to manipulate files as part of a Document Management application that stores documents in a location on a Network Drives. But the My.Computer.FileSystem.Drives collection does not contain the Network Drives mapped on my machine. I have about half-a-dozen of these, but none of them seem to show up in the Drives collection and thus are not visible to the other FileSystem functionality I need to use for file management.
how to make sure the Drives collection contains all my drives? I am running VS2010 Premium edition on Windows 7 64-bit on a 64-bit Dell machine.
I am teaching myself VB.net and have pasted full code, and I want to delete the file called tracertAll.txt but I get an error "in use" message because I am doinga System.IO.File.ReadAllText("tracertALL.txt") but don't know how to release.Here is the code I think is the problem:
Dim MailBody As String MailBody = System.IO.File.ReadAllText("tracertALL.txt") ' set it to path of the file which you want to read.
