I am trying to write a program to download an image at certain time intervals from a website based on a start time, end time and the time interval. I am trying to use 3 timers to accomplish this. I want to be able to kick the program off and leave it running until I stop it. My code seems to work fine if I set the time interval for something like 2 minutes, etc. and sit and watch it, but if I set it for an hour and leave it alone, it gives me almost sporadic results.
I set it to start at 10 pm last night and end at 5 am this morning with an interval of 1 hour. It downloaded an image at 10 pm, 11 pm, 12 am, 1 am, 2 am, and 3 am and then there were no images for 4 and 5 am. I have tried this multiple times with different time spans, and seem to get sporadic results. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Here is my current code:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If TextBox1.Text.Length = 0 Or cmbStartTime.Text.Length = 0 Or cmbEndTime.Text.Length = 0 Or TextBox2.Text.Length = 0 Then
MsgBox("You must select an image destination, start time and time increment.")

I'm automating downloads. I was getting this error quite a bit using Webbrowser to navigate to a PDF (various PDFs at various websites). In other words the PDF was already on display in the browser when I called WebClient.DownloadToFile. I got a LOT better results when I desisted from WebClient and switched to this API (just pass in the two strings along with zeroes for the other parameters).

And yet Webclient seems oriented for only two entries (username and password). How do you set up the credentials for three entries? I hate to abandon WebClient, but at this point I just don't know how to make it work.
I'm downloading a file from my website using WebClient.DownloadFile(),I'm wanting to do it asynchronously, so my UI stays responsive, that would require me creating an array of web clients, is that bad practice? Or is it acceptable?I have looked into FileWebRequest, but thought WebClient looked easier to implement.
View 10 RepliesI have a small dilemma... how can I see the download progress when using My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("http://some_url.com/a_file.txt", "the_file.txt")
The below code for some reason isn't working with filefront. I'm grabbing the URL that returns the file to download but the wc.downloadfile() code doesn't download the file. It creates an empty file called 100.rar in my temp directory on C: but doesn't have any data. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is filefronts redirect messing something up? If I put the URL I get with the fixUrl variable, it pops up the file to download in my internet browser fine.

View 25 Repliesi have been assigned a project by my organization to make a portal using vb.net which would list all the files and folders kept at the server, and i need to add a functionality wherein on a single click the user should be able to download all the files present in a particular a listbox which contains various files selected for the download, iam using file.copy method for this as the files are to be copied in the intranet only but this works fine when i run it on my computer but as soon as i deploy it and in the client server architecture the files are not copied even to the server nor in the client, although no error is shown. View 13 RepliesNow to download a file i have used My.Computer.Network.DownloadFileThis works for the first file but then crashes when it goes to download a second file leavign me with the world most inexplicable exception message: "Illegal characters in path."
Here is the line it occurs on:

My current code is Imports System.Net Imports System.IO Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click#
Using wc As New WebClient()
wc.DownloadFile("http://link.com/1.swf", Path.Combine("1.swf"))
End Using
End Sub
End Class
And that work's like a charm, however say there was swf's from 1 to 2700 or so, how would i go around making it download each of those files one at a time or all at once? I could do a loop but I'm not the best in Visual Basic 2010
I'm trying to access a web server to download a file, but when I run the statement gives me the following WebException:

I have a class that is a downloader (I didnt make it). You create an instance of it like so:
Dim _Down As New WebFileDownloader_Down.DownloadFileWithProgress(URL, Location)URL and Location are replaced by strings. This all works fine. But when I try to download multiple files, it doesn't work, I just add this bit for another file to be downloaded:

I'm trying to use the thread pool to download more than one string at a time. But most of the tutorial on threading is in C# or C++ so my knowledge on thread pool is limited.
Here's what I got so far.
Imports System.Threading
Imports System.Net
Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions

I keep getting an error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'Listbox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." And it still seems to be downloading it one by one to me.
Is there any way to download multiple files at the same time from a remote server? How I am doing it currently is I get a list of files from the target folder on the server then I loop through that list & download each file 1 at a time. For 100 small files it takes about 45 seconds. I'm guessing that the bulk of the time it takes is logging in to the server for each file to download, so 100 files means it has to login, download & logoff 100 times. Is it possible to login just once, download the 100 files then logout?

View 1 RepliesWe recently started playing with a vb.net 2008 WebClient on a Windows 7/64 workstation to download files from a web site to the local machine.It works except that we cannot detect if the URL is invalid. It doesn't throw an error. If we use Async it does trigger the Download Complete event but there was no file since the URL was incorrect.Is there a way to detect an incorrect URL?I also noticed that the events does not give you either the URL or the file?

View 2 RepliesI've been trying for a while to use a method I've found on the net to login to a webpage then download zip files off the page.Here is what I am doing:
Code:
strURL = "https://www.someurl.com/"
Client = New WebClient()
[code].....
Dim wc As New System.Net.WebClientGamerTag.Replace(" ", "+")wc.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(Email, Password, "http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=" & GamerTag)Dim fx As New System.IO.StreamReader(wc.OpenRead("http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=Dark Slipstream" & GamerTag))Dim str As String = fx.ReadToEndfx.Close()
The above code will open a webclient, set the credentials (possible error?), create a stream of the entire page, and then load it into a string (str).I then scan through and look for what is needed (Gamerscore, Motto, Bio, etc)-in this case.This doesn't work however, it doesn't sign in.
I have a weird bug with webclient. I made an app a while ago which uses webclient to download a small thumbnail image.. and I rememeber when I first made it, the first time webclient was used to download the image it always took 15 sec+ to download it, but after the first it always downloaded quickly (in like 1 sec) .. but then the problem went away for me and it always downloaded fine.but now someone else who uses my app is having the slow image download problem apparently around 50% of the time it downloads the thumbnail images. so does anyone know what might be causing this? As I said, I don't have the problem any more on my comp - but I don't know why :s
