View 1 RepliesI'm a beginner in VB Express 2008 code. I would like to write a small program that only has a "Textbox" and a "Button" in VB Form..I would like a code that can check if a filename already exist in a folder.Let's say I have a folder that has all this filenames (eg. test.doc, eddy.doc, anything.doc)So if I entered 'eddy' in the "Textbox", and if I press the "Button", I would like the code to check whether 'eddy' is already exist in that folder.......
Same thing if I entered 'anything' in the "Textbox", and if I press the "Button", I would like the code to check whether 'anything' is already exist in that folder.
I have an application that has a list of string that needs to be search in a database table field to select rows with the same name and retrive the values of one particular fields that contains the file name with extention for that string. With this new generated text file, I pass the filename with the extension and search the folders that are listed in a txt file. All of this works fine.
Now I need a more simple version of this application, without using the database to get the filename with extension. Instead, read the text file with input strings, search in the folders listed in another text file(to know the location of the folders to search for the string). If any file that matches with the string in the text file, I need to copy those files to another folder.

Assuming I have a folder structure like:
[Code]...
This works fine, unless I have Windows Explorer open and I'm looking at the 'MySubFolder' directory. Then I get an IOException The directory is not empty. - clicking OK dismisses this and then the folder structure is not deleted. Any thoughts on how I can get this to perform correctly (i.e. delete), even when running this code while having the folder struture open in Windows Explorer?
I have a log txt file that is updated once my application is closed. I want this file to be copied in the same folder with a new filename as follows:

Here is my code so far - not sure why its not working

have a script which puts multiple files into a folder periodically. I have a code to delete file. this code should run but gives me error that file does not exist.
' for each objFile1 in FSO.GetFolder(strPath2&""&acctdir&""&acctsubdir).Files
' acctno1 = Mid(objFile1.Name,1,11)

I have a console application. I get the console application's folder path via this code:
dim Folder as string Folder = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly.Location)
And I need to create a new file with this name Key.txt in the same folder as the console application. Because this file name is rather normal and there is possible duplicate in that folder. How do I prevent duplicate file name while still using simple name for that file?
I need to know how could I move all files inside a folder (for example: C:Folder1) to another folder (for example: C:Folder2), but not delete Folder1 and get how many items have been moved, let me explain;
I need to move all items inside Folder1 (files, folders, sub-folders, sub-files, etc) maintaining directory structure, but without delete Folder1, and if its possible know how many folders and how many files have been moved (only the number of folders and number of files).
The EID has a picture from the person also.I decided not to save the image directly into the SQL database, but store it in the application directory.However i cannot seem to figure out how i can save it with a filename taken from one or more textboxes.
This is what i am using right now, but as you can see it saves it as Test.Jpeg
Dim file_name As String = Application.ExecutablePath
file_name = file_name.Substring(0, _

I can get an image from the clipboad that has been copied from the web with the following
[Code].....
How can I get the filename of the original image? I don't want to save the bitmap with that name, just display it in a textbox.
When I load images using openfiledialog I need to store a backup copy of the images to the other folder using the same filename and with the same extension.So how do i do that as in the below mentioned code I am able to copy only one image and I have given random string for that image.But I don't need that.I want to copy with the same filename and with the same extension.And if I have the same filename it should overwrite it but not with a different name and extension.[code]
View 3 RepliesI am attempting to create a small script to help me build a photo inventory for a few thousand widgets. Each widget has a unique barcode. I'm working on a program to let me take a picture of the widget, then scan the barcode and use the barcode value as the name of the photo file (barcode scanner inputs text string wherever curser is positioned). Right now I have a script, which I put together from a sample available online, which lets me capture an image (.bmp) using a webcam, then it lets me save that file, using traditional Windows saving method (opens an explorer to select the location and type in the file name). It works, but I want it to work a little quicker, less clicks.

View 1 RepliesI have a Picturebox and a two Buttons on my Form. On click of one of the buttons I want to change the image in the picture box at runtime.
This works fine when I give the location of the image (the full path ) on my computer - but then of course it will not work if I use the solution on a different computer .
So I have made a folder named "Pics" inside my application and added two images into it.
How do I get to this local folder in the following code?
Picturebox1.image = system.drawing.image.fromfile (??? )
instead of the usual,
Picturebox1.image = system.drawing.image.fromfile ("C:UsersMyName My PicturesMyPicture.jpg" )
Quick query...I'm trying to scan a long string and return any values that occur between the tags <FileName> and </FileName> I've got a bit of code here to use regular expressions to return the position of the occurunces of both substrings..Just wanted to find out if there is any way to scan for both substrings within one loop (as im currently doing 2, one for the first substring and one for the 2nd) so I can use something along these lines:
ringlist = Mid(XMLRESP, (startloc + 1), (endloc - 1))
MsgBox(ringlist)
to msg box the value between the substrings...either that or another approach to return the value between the 2 substrings (it can be of variable length)
Dim patternstart As String = "<FileName>"
Dim patternend As String = "</FileName>"
Dim matchesstart As MatchCollection = Regex.Matches(XMLRESP, patternstart)

Well lets say i Build a Program its called test.exe
Now if i Rename the Program to test2.exe how can i check with the Programm how my Program ist called now? Cause My.Application.Info.AssemblyName tells me only the AssemblyName not how the File is called at the moment.
How would I do that? Sample code is below that demonstrated that the file I opened contained the full path and file name.
I want to extract just the path and serialize that to the user.config file as a UserSetting value. Then next time the user opens the dialog box, it uses that saved path string to go immediately to the location previously used.
If openFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then
Properties.Settings.Default.persistConnectionType = openFileDialog1.FileName
Properties.Settings.Default.Save();

I created a program which was deleting a particular directory for me. The program was compiled and working. Today I run the same program...did not do any system updates and now it won't delete my specified directory. I ran tests to make sure the directory is there when testing...I keep getting access/permission errors.
I rebooted system, ran my application...still gave me error. I turned off Windows Defender...still got error. If I manually delete the directory...no problem.
Is there a way to get system permission to delete the directory? I am being given an 'access denied' error...I do not have permission. I tried running my application as administrator...no good. - VB 2008 Express - VISTA OS
