Generate A Simple Filename That Is Non Duplicate On Existing Folder?

I have a console application. I get the console application's folder path via this code:
dim Folder as string Folder = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly.Location)
And I need to create a new file with this name Key.txt in the same folder as the console application. Because this file name is rather normal and there is possible duplicate in that folder. How do I prevent duplicate file name while still using simple name for that file?

here i am reading files from one root folder and after reading that we are moving that particular file Success folder and taking a copy of that in to back up folder normal
while reading file i will check file naming convention by targeting backup folder if suppose it was exists in backup folder then i m moving the file to duplicate folder
my problem if suppose again same file came to process this file already existed in duplicate folder how do send the file in to duplicate folder, unfornately i dint have any property as file rename

I want to create VB.NET code that will change the filename of selected image files that are already stored on my ISP's web server. I know how to do this by reading the image into memory and then saving it as a new file. However, I would prefer not to regenerate the image. I just want to change the filename. Is this possible?

I'm building a code editor app in VB.NET (Framework 4.0) and it opens all ".por" files into individual forms consisting of a MenuBar and TextBox (multi-line).Currently I have 20 forms (all duplicates of the first on I designed) and if there are say 4 ".por" files in a directory, the first four will open up while the others hide.
I think it would be far more efficient by coding a new form For each item in form1's ListView...but I want the next so many to be a copy of the first form I designed since I spent a good bit on it.

I'm a beginner in VB Express 2008 code. I have an application that has a list of string that needs to be search in a database table field to select rows with the same name and retrive the values of one particular fields that contains the file name with extention for that string. With this new generated text file, I pass the filename with the extension and search the folders that are listed in a txt file. All of this works fine.
Now I need a more simple version of this application, without using the database to get the filename with extension. Instead, read the text file with input strings, search in the folders listed in another text file(to know the location of the folders to search for the string). If any file that matches with the string in the text file, I need to copy those files to another folder.

I have a workbook (Workbook1) that runs through some steps using visual basic, which ends up opening another workbook Workbook2). Once Workbook 2 is opened, I need to copy a section of data from it, into Workbook1 int a specific worksheet. I was able to do this by recording a macro, but the challange is, the name of Workbook 1, and Workbook 2, will vary by User. When I created the macro it uses the files as they are currently named. How can I clear an existing folder with vb.net? I already searched the internet, but the code I found only deleted the files and left the subfolders in place. Of course I could delete the folder and immediately recreate it, but in a next stage I want to delete specific files (for instance: .lng files) and leave the other files alone.Perhaps those will be two totally different functions.I recently stopped good old vb6 and the above actions could be done with two look alike functions.

I am developing a fairly complex vb.net program with numerous forms, and custom classes, modules, etc. I want to start reorganizing the various folders for components of the program and have a few stupid questions.For one, I find that I cannot take a working executable and move it to a different folder on the same machine and have it work. My program drives numerous slave applications and I would like to group just the executables in a common folder. Do I need to carry additional files along with them to make them 'portable' on my own machine? I haven't discovered how to copy or move an existing project to a new folder. Things seem to blow up because of internal project references etc. Is there some way of copying or duplicating a working project without problems resulting?

im having a problem with replacing some files in a folder, i have made a Auto Upater for a application im making (so beta testers can test it and also get updated stuff to test) now i can replace the Main application.exe with

I am looking to create a small program in visual basic 2010 to perform the following actions on some photo's.
#1) I want to select a folder, that contains say 3 to 10 pictures all of which will have random file names (including some characters like - _ ~ )
#2) I want to resize each photo by 2pixels (both width & height)For right now shrinking it by 2 pixels would be best, i do not want to crop, as it may mess the photo up after a couple of times being run.So if it was 500x500 to start with, when its done, it should be 498x498.
#3) I want to save these newly resized photo's as newly created files.We can either delete the old ones automatically & save the file with the same name. Or simply add a random 1 digit # to the old file name, for the new file name.Either way, I do not want to "save over" the old file.I have never worked with any type of image operation in VB before so I have no idea where to start.

I'm trying to add a folder and some files within it to a Visual Studio 2010 Express VB.NET project. I have read the answers to questions on this subject here and here. They both say "select folder, right click, and then select Add To Project". But when I right-click in this way, no "Add to Project" option appears. Does anyone know why this is so, and what I can do about it, or alternatively another way of adding a folder to a project?

Quick query...I'm trying to scan a long string and return any values that occur between the tags <FileName> and </FileName> I've got a bit of code here to use regular expressions to return the position of the occurunces of both substrings..Just wanted to find out if there is any way to scan for both substrings within one loop (as im currently doing 2, one for the first substring and one for the 2nd) so I can use something along these lines:

to msg box the value between the substrings...either that or another approach to return the value between the 2 substrings (it can be of variable length)

How would I do that? Sample code is below that demonstrated that the file I opened contained the full path and file name.
I want to extract just the path and serialize that to the user.config file as a UserSetting value. Then next time the user opens the dialog box, it uses that saved path string to go immediately to the location previously used.

I have a Listview on my form with different files. I can selet a file en open it with the proces start method. To open the file i use the OpenFileDialog method and select the filename. This work very good. With the code below.
My question is if there is a method to get the selected file without using the OpenFileDialog Box. So when i dubbelclick the selected file the proces will start with open the selected file. Something like:

instead of proc.StartInfo.FileName = Me.OpenFileDialog1.FileName

Trying to make a simple browser with some simple addon's. What Ive done is setup a menu(forum) for the user to enter their email providers web address and it will save it in a xml file.
