View 6 RepliesI'm using VB.NET for a web-application that starts some process using CreateObject, like this:
Dim AVObject = CreateObject("avwin.application")
After all is done everything get closed down en stopped using the proper release functions, however, for some reason the process remains.
Is there some way in which I can get the process id of the started process, in order to explicitly kill it just before termination?
I am trying to create an app that will perform actions on specific times (much like the Windows Task Scheduler). I am currently using Process.Start() to lunch the file (or exe) required by the task. I am initiating a process by calling a file (an .mp3) and the process starts WMP (since it is the default application), so far so good. Now I wan't to kill that process. I know that it is normal behavior for the Process.Start(string, string) to return nothing (null in C#) in this case. So I am asking how can i close WMP when I called it through Process.Start(string, string)??

I want to know if there is a way to get each new process (what has been started) in a real-time manner (instantly). I tried until now something like:
1. Getting the number of opened/running processes
2. If the number is different from the previous check then the program is scanning each process (what is running) using a timer, each process has assigned its "pid" (using array) -- so if there is a new "pid" the process will be scanned -- else the process will be skipped. (scanning: getting its "object" path and creating a md5 signature etc.) This is working but is inefficient(very)...
How do you know if a process starts another process?And how to get the newly started process' id?
View 4 Replieswhenever i start my app and let it start a process, and the process dies or gets killed my app goes down too. but this only occurs when i'm debugging, not when i run the program
View 2 RepliesI have searched the www but so far cannot see how to do it. Perhaps via a try/catch statement?
How can I test if a process can be started in vb before actually starting it, e.g. when I use process.start("<name>.exe") ....
but before doing that I would like to make sure that it will be callable.. is this possible at all? maybe by using some kind of My.Computer .FileSystem .FileExists ("<name>.exe") statement?
I run a program based on a timer in VB.NET, and it executes just fine when I don't try to retrieve the output. For some reason, though, I constantly get an error on the Dim myOutput line... Can anyone spot my error? output is a string.Error: StandardOut has not been redirected or the process hasn't started yet.
Dim fetch As New System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo("C:/perlprog.pl")
fetch.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden
Dim executable As System.Diagnostics.Process

first of all, I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum to post this, as there seems ot be tones and tones of forum branches here, so if I'm not in the right location, i'm creating an IDE for a proamming language and I need a way to monitor the physical memmory usage of a process tree. I'm not talking about the WorkngSet64 of a process, but the WorkingSet64 of the process and any child process started by it.

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to get a process (wmplayer) started with a maximised main window. I've tried:
Dim VidPROC As System.Diagnostics.Process
Dim startInfo As New ProcessStartInfo("wmplayer", "C:MyVideo.mpg")
startInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Maximized
VidPROC = Process.Start(startInfo)
but the process starts with a standard, small empty mplayer window, NOT maximised. (If I change .Maximised to .Hidden it starts hidden, but seems to ignore it when set to .Maximised).
I am currently building a vb windows form application (.net 3.5 framework). For the next part of the application I want to be able to use an existing excel process which will have been checked out from sharepoint and manipulate the worksheet with my app.
View 1 RepliesI'm using excel via interop in application.Sometimes users kill application that created excel instance and that results in excel instance sitting in memory without any chance of disposing it.First I tried to tackle this using ROT(running object table) looks like not all instances of excel are registered there.Than I tried to somehow mark excel process after it is started via interop.[code]This works as long as excel is visible but in my case excel window is invisible.All I need is to somehow mark process that started via automation with the parent PID, so that later I can kill it if parent does not exist.
View 19 RepliesI have a windows service that I have been writing in Vb.Net. As part of this service it calls a class that has a long running Process.I can execute commands to this process when I want to via the ServerCommands() class within the service, however I want to call these remotely. Possibly from a website or click once WPF application.
For this I have used a simple Tcp.Ip WCF example, and have verified it as working correctly.
This called OnStart()Private _serverCommands As ServerCommands
Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String)
Add code here to start your service. This method should set things
in motion so your service can do its work.

It appears that in debug _serverCommands is Nothing when it should be running.How might I go about ensuring any command I execute through WCF communicates with the running instance instead of creating a new ServerCommand() instance??I haven't tried WCF before, so I might be hitting a dead end... however I'm sure its possible.
Note: I am working with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. Note: There are a lot of MDI Child posts, but none (that I have found) that apply to my scenario... Scenario I have an MDI form with a UserControl docked at the top. The UserControl is for navigation and is ~50 pixels in height. When I show a child form with its WindowState property already set to 'Maximized', the child form shows maximized in the MDI parent, but behind the UserControl.

Our application needs to communicate with another program through a COM interface. The interface will not work if the other program is started with "Run as Administrator". Would like to detect if this other process is in this state and warn the user.

I need to make a program in vb that takes a 1 page existing pdf that i specify and inserts that into another existing pdf that i specify.
View 4 RepliesI have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 RepliesMy program shows some browser. From a browser user can open maximized MDI form with some report. When user is closing the report, first MDI form with browser is became maximized.
2 forms have same MDI parent. Can I change this behavior to leave my first browser form without maximizing after second report closed?
I have a form which I want to keep maximized and all other forms to stay their original size. The problem that I am getting is when I open an additional form, it also maximizes even though I have set the form size to Normal. When I click on the Maximize button to put it back to the size it should be, the form that I want to keep maximized also reduces in size.

View 1 RepliesI have a form showing a datagrid with info from a database. It also has 2 date pickers to filter the database results. It shows everything perfectly in the datagrid, so the db connection is ok. But it also has a few labels below, showing some info taken from the datagrid. For example, the datagrid has sales information and the labels below show the total sales. This works fine too.But the problem comes when I open some other form, maximize it and then open this form containing all this stuff (while the previous one is still open and maximized). These labels (along with a few more labels that only contain the '$' character) get on top
of the datagrid. Even if I restore the form to its normal size the labels are positioned wherever they want. The weird thing is that this only happens with some labels and not with all of them.My first guess was the anchor property, but I set it to left-bottom and it still does this.
I'm doing a project in computer programing. I need to make a game so I made pong.everything is working fine, except when it loads it is often so low that you cant see the bottom paddle and i have to move the form up.is there a way that i can make the form automatically load already maximized, or load at a certain point in my screen?
View 3 Replieshow can i calibrate my form to be the same size in accordance to the screen size. So for instance if the original size of the form is 10cm by 10cm then when its maximized, how can i make the real size change automatically, because at the moment when i maximize the size of the buttons and labels etc. stay the same.
