Program Installation With Extra Folder / Files / Applications
Sep 25, 2009
When my program is installed, I need to place a folder in the directory path of "C:\" in order my program to work. How do I include the folder in my project, and then durning the install Place the folder where it needs to be? Could someone be so kind as to point me in right direction to read up on something like this?
i have a project and wish to use a setup file that installs all required software .net etc . I can manage this using the publish function .But i also need to add a couple of csv files to the installation.
change the installation folder to program files instead of application files . I think i need to use the setup and deployment and add a new project using "visual studio installer" .This as far as i have got i can not seem to create a setup (the one i built just hangs)
I have tested a few applications downloaded from net. They are surely database applications but when I checked in the folder where the application is installed, there is no database (no mdb, sdf etc.) When I install my application, my databases are always in the folder.
What is the trick to make them invisible but they should still work.
I'm working on a project that will be finished pretty soon. But I've got a problem: I have songs in the program, and in the installation program I want to add a sub folder that installs on the computer in the same place at the game. In the sub folder pictures and music should be. But how do I do this and how do I change the file path so it can independent be installed on a new computer?
I need my application to update as it is on multiple computers. Will the program update and work if I just replaced the files in the application startup folder with the files from the newer version's application startup folder?
Is it possible to build a program through VB that creates a folder in program files folder and behaves like any other usual program? If not, though witch program can i make this?
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Setup project. I need to copy one folder and the sub folders into the program files but when I tried to copy or add the folder to "Application Folder" in File System editor, I am able to add only files and not folders.
how to change the install folder path in a setup and deployment project/Installer class from program files to C:usersPublic in windows 7 and allusers folder in xp.Want to add MVP with my name.
when i publish my applications in visual studio 2008. when it is installed i only see the entry in the programs list at the start menu and the application folder is thrown some where else(wonder where). So i was wondering is there a way to publish an application so that when it is installed, it gets installed in the program files folder on C:\
I have VB 2008 Express installed in my PC. I downloaded a program source code written in VB6 but could not open the files. What do I need to do to get this codes displayed.
I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe") Dim Info As FileVersionInfo Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName) Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?
I have a question regarding publishing vis ClickOnce. For the publish options, there is a Publishing Folder Location and there is a Installation Folder URL. clarify the difference between Publish and Install, and when it would be apropriate for the two to be different?
I'm making a program that takes common applications and installs them silently using batch files. Someone would select the programs they would want to install and my program will write a giant batch file and execute it to install whatever they want. Heres the problem, After the user selects the programs they go into either one or two lists. Non Silent Installer List Or Silent installer list.
Some programs I have simply won't go silently so from there they can choose in what order they want to install these programs. Then there is a combo box that tells weather you want to install non silent programs first or last. From there you hit add to batch file and it would add everything in listbox1 and listbox2 in order. Listbox1 would contain just the text "MalwareBytes" for example. Along with Novell Groupwise and Firefox. How do I get that to add to the Batch List as a code and in order? So the user wants Malware bytes added first to the batch file. How do I add that to my batch list as a completely different code?
In the above form the user will first enter a folder name and click the create folder button, then the folder will be created in the applications bin folder.I did the code for this:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If ComboBox1.Text = "" Then
in the current project im making i've decided to add in some tools, 1 of which is a renamer based of a renamer app that already exists (called scdtoolz), i want to build my own version of it so i can learn some new things, and build a nice GUI version of it.[code]So what i have managed to determine is that the current app scans the folders contents for the CRC32 Checksum, and renames based of that, since the 456.bin's CRC32 Checksum was 2274F80B, and in the text file 2274F80B is found here 'WWF - Rage in the Cage (T-81015)(U)#2274F80B#'So now i have determined game identification is based of the CRC32 checksums, how would i go about coding a similar ap in vb.net?first i need to make the app scan a folder, but how to return crcchecksum? and then rename if check = XXXX? If MD4 sums are easier/simpler i can use those instead, im lookin at a few hash app sources now, so i think i can see how to get the md5 but not the crc32 yet, or how to rename the 2 files and folder based of the text file.
I have a list of albums and photos in albums. Now i want when i delete a particular album then its photos also to be delete. The name for images of a particular album is like " if album's id is 1 so its images name should be 1_1,1_2,.. . So i have got the image name upto "1_" at the time of deletion of album. now i am confused how to delete the images which have prefix "1_". [code]...
I need to have my VB program look for two specific programs in the same folder it is running from. How do I do that? Here is the code for when I run my program. I need it to look for the files that are underlined. They are the tpfh20 and tphd20.
Private Sub btnRunRelap5_Click(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRunRelap5.Click
Dim pathString As String = String.Format("relap5 -i {0} -o {1} -r {2}", txtInput.Text, txtOutput.Text, txtRestart.Text)Dim stripString As String = String.Format(" -s {0}", tbStripFile.Text) Dim guiString As String = " -n gui" Dim waterprop As String = " -w tpfh20 -d tphd20" If Not lblChangeStripFile.Visible Then
So in VB.NET I created a resource file called "source.txt" (as its a text file). My program will take in the text in the file, and then compile it into an executable.
How do I access this file which is in my resources folder in my project?
I wrote an application that copies files from Folder(A) into Folder (B) First it checks if the files exists if yes it will copy them and it will over write the them in fodler (B) and is working great , but if I have a file in Folder(B)that is located in a subfolder the file inFolder (A) will not be copied to the new location.
belwo is the code to copy the files if they exist :[code..]
I make an application and make setup file using VS setup project. This work fine and create default text files into Program Files Folder for winodw 7/vista .but can not modify these files or create any new files. There are few text files need to create ,modify during application running ,but in windows 7/vista unable to create, modify files.I am using full default admin right for these OS. If iuse C: root path then application work fine or for win XP no problem.I think UAC restricting to perform these opeartion. But i do not know how to change these restriction using vb.net, whenever application start.
I have an issue with the Windows permission system. And every time it tries to do something that needs a windows permission (to be ran as administrator) it fails !
At the moment I was trying to implement an updater which should download a file from an ftp site but because copying a file into one of the program files folder requires a permission I am not able to do this.
I currently have a program that I made which opens other apps packaged with an installer. I have set the installer to install everything to the Program Files folder. However, not all computers have a C: hard drive. I have a way in which they can enter their drive letter in one form then in the next form it remembers the drive and will take them to the program. The problem is my program stores the drive letter in an xml file. On the startup of the program it looks in the xml file to find the drive letter, if there is no drive letter the form opens then lets the user set his drive letter. The xml file is stored in the folder "Math Wizard" in the Program Files folder. But if not all computers have C:Program Files I need a shortcut to the program files folder. I have been trying to use %ProgramFiles% (%Program Files% + "Math Wizardconfig.xml") but vb is saying that the % is an invalid character. Here's my code:
I'm trying to public a VB program and I want to install the program from the same directory I am publishing it to which is a file path of the form P:DirDir. This doesn't seem to be working... In the publishing folder text box I have a file path but it won't allow me to put that same file path in the installation folder text box... and it has brackets (if different than above) over the installation folder text box so that should mean it is not a required text box.. but when I go to publish now it asks for me to put a path in there.
In VS 2010, under "Installation folder URL" (under Publish) I have inserted this "\localhostProgram FilesRajoni" - my project name is "Rajoni". Isn't this the path where I want my app to be installed on user computer? Because in my Program Files I don't have anything

I found one solution that , if change user rights manually then this problem solved.Follow these step to change your account settings.Control Panel-->User Accounts and Family Safety-->User Accounts-->Change User Account Control settings-->Never notify(Set tab to never notify). After this change need to restart system. Now can make all changes like windows XP into Windows 7.can also make changes into program files.
Its working fine, but need to make these changes manually in OS.but its not efficent solution. So if any one knows how can make these changes by coding that will nice.
So my program works off a few templates in a folder called "Templates".So far, i have been deploying my program as though it would run from a CD. Deleting the autorun file, inserting the Templates folder myself, and then using a self extracting ZIP to make it easy for the user to install. While this works, i would like to make it easier on myself by just including the Templates folder and the two template files (both .xls files) in the program every time i deploy.I've tried dragging and dropping the folder + files into my solution explorer bin folder but it doesn't work.I'm using Visual Basic 2010 Express.
I have vb.net 2008 express eddition. While publishing projects and installing on other computers I do not get the browsing path for the installation. i.e. the setup.exe install it in a default location without the option for the user to determine the installation path (destination folder). How can I enable to determine the destination folder of the installation?
