Program Stays In Memory?
Aug 16, 2011
1. I run a program in VB, then i click X button to close the main form, the program exits.
2. Then I change the code slightly (for example I add MsgBox("abc") and try to run the program.
3. An error appers: "The operation could not be completed..." and then some text in my own language, I try to translate it into english: "...The process cant get access to file, because its been in use by another process"

I have developed a application on vb.net platform. After installing, whenever I run the application and close it, it stays in the memory and pops up again after approx 5 mins.

the program ive created will need to run for 3-7 days with out be restarted.im worried about memory leaks and anything else that might occur. to view what my program is using ive opened windows task manager.these are the reading i get:
CPU: between 0 and 2
working set(memory) about 29,596 - 29,600k
memory(private working set) about 8756 k[code]....
2 question, first does this look ok (is my program using to much memory, etc) and secondly why does the thread say 12-14?i thought the program is one thread plus i have a second thread running in the background so shouldnt that be just 2 then?(the program is an sms sender.it sends and recieves sms's, databases them, and sends out responses based on what the txt msg is).

This is a little app that sits in your task bar and check a website for the presence of a simple string. The string is either "ONLINE" or "OFFLINE". THe problem is that there seems to be a minor memory leak, since every once in a while (I suppose when the timer expires) the memory it takes up increases by a good bit. [code]

I made a little VB app to shutdown a laptop after it has been powered on for 2 1/2 hours, and giving the user a little over 8min warning that it is about to be shutdown. However I have nothing in place to stop the user from restarting the device once it is shutdown. What I would like to integrate in this, is a sort of memory where if the user doesn't wait at least 30 minutes, the shutdwon will re-iniate immediatly.
I included the code I did so far.
Public Class Form1
Private Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" (ByVal dwmilliseconds As Long)
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
[Code].....

I am a noob to Visual Basic and I am currently learning it at my college. I have a final project to do and I am having some trouble deciding on how to attack it. First off, I have done a lot of research and I cannot find my answer, so I am using this(post) as a last resort. The book my prof is having me use is outdated, its coding on vb6, and we are using vb2010...hence my problem. I am not looking for an answer in code, but more to be pointed in the right direction, or maybe some classes that I do not know about.[code]...

Inspired from this question, was wondering what are the possible ways to create a memory leak in .Net. I once found one with ODBC Data Access. Has anyone had any experiences with latest version?

I noticed my program starts out at between 20-25 MB of RAM usage upon launch.It levels out at around 28MB once the two forms that are used are open.Sometimes it will hit 31MB. But that's usually max.It simply consists of an initial form on loadup for the Notification area Icon and then two forms that are loaded when you right or left click on the icon.One they are loaded they are either hidden or shown when you click on the icon.All-in-all, the program isn't doing much; no large calculations, no huge amounts of data being manipulated, etc.

I am trying to make a dps meter for a game, and basically would like to know how to read the memory fields (NOT WRITE).This can be done in VB(Preffered), but I am also semi useful with C# so it can be done in that as well.

This is the code I have
Function1()
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
ProgressBar1.Minimum = 0
ProgressBar1.Maximum = 6
ProgressBar1.Value = 0
[Code] .....
However the progress bar stays empty. The application runs fully so I know one of the functions is not stuck in an infinite loop.

My Application (Vb.net, Access 2003/2007) is to scan Access Database files for activex controls and to generate report accordingly.Problem:
Getting an error like:"Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program."
The above error occurs while scanning for older version of Access files like prior to office 2000.
And the line of code where I get this is as follows:
Dim oForm As Access.Form Dim oAccess as Access.Application oForm = oAccess.Forms(objForms.Name)
But it opens the file and form as well.
Whether it is possible to read the file (Access Forms and Reports) or not?

I need to make a program for my school (I`m the principal), that reads the text in the memory address of the program and write it down in a txt. I already have the address numbers. For more information, I use VS 2008.
I was trying to make one code to get the memory address. So, after I succeed this, I'll make the correct program.
The code I made(adapted from [URL] returning-0 ):
Public Class Form1
Private Declare Function ReadProcessMemory Lib "kernel32" (ByVal hProcess As Integer, ByVal lpBaseAddress As Integer, ByRef lpBuffer As Single, ByVal nSize As Integer, ByRef lpNumberOfBytesWritten As Integer) As Integer
[Code].....

I have a program in C++, that is doing some calculations. I use a vector in C++ and resize the vector in the program, in order to conserve and allocate memory. Can you allocate memory in vb.net? So if my user inputs 1000, I want an array/vector to have a size of 1000. Can I change the size of the vector in the program? And is there a difference between container types in vb.net, I was just assuming
Dim xx(1 to 1000) as double, is the standard way of declaring.
And resize xx(1 to N) would be the way to resize.
I am using visual studio 2008 express.

1. It only gets the first 4 bytes(is it?) of the memory address. I want it to get all of them.
2. I haven't discovered how to convert each byte(?) into a character. Is there a function for this?
3. When the program runs, after clicking ok on the MsgBox, it highlights the Next and debuggs:
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I have a Sub Menu which has a list of values and when the user selects one it sets a variable to the checked value. I was wondering if it is possible to group them into a control so only 1 can be checked at a time? And also so the menu structure doesn't close each time one of these options is selected.
I have attached a quick ScreenShot to show what i mean of the menu.

I am building an app that builds a bunch of cardinal splines by storing their PointF structures in arrays. As the program runs, new points are added to the arrays, and the graphics are drawn to a bitmap. I can let it run for ages and the splines just keep growing like they should with no problems. The amount of points in each spline can grow into the thousands. To speed up execution as time progresses, I don't completely redraw the splines after each pass, I simply draw the last segment of the spline to the bitmap, having let the bitmap 'record' the earlier part of the splines.
But if I pan across the scene or zoom in/out of it, then I DO have to completely redraw the splines, since the size and resolution of the display is limited to its dimensions. Panning works, no problem. But if I zoom in and out of the bitmap with the mouse wheel, after about 14 wheel clicks, I get an "Out of Memory" error. BUT...I have it set up so that whenever the mouse wheel turns, the graphics and the bitmap are disposed so that new ones can be built for the new zoom setting. So why would the program run out of memory when as far as I can tell, I am disposing of all my unused, unmanaged resources on a regular basis?

I have an ArrayList that stores 100,000+ numbers inside of it. Each number is 10 digits in length or smaller. The program itself has data input into it, of which it loops through the user input to see if any of their numbers are already in the array using if ArrayList.Contains(userinput).
It would appear that when having an ArrayList of this size a LOT of memory is being used. Would there be a faster way to run this, E.g. Database or If TextFile.Contains(Line)?

I want to be able to read and write the process memory of Firefox for a game on facebook(It's kind of like cheating only you can't cheat, nothing stays permanent.) this is just for fun. The game is called happy fish aquarium and you raise fish in the game and it's just really addicting. I found a program that reads process memory and lets me change certain values in happy fish aquarium so I can make my fish tank look different or whatever. But if I reload the page it will of course go back to the original state because the fish tank's memory is held online. The point is, I just want to make a program that can read the process memory from Firefox from a certain range and bytes. like 4 bytes and a range of 00400000 to 7FFFFFFF. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Please note, this is not for cheating purposes in any way whatsoever, it's simply for visual fun(visual meaning only I can see it). What I want to do is the same as using the add-on firebug in firefox to change the html on a webpage.

I'm trying to fix a problem that is just killing my program's efficiency. When I run it, it starts out at maybe 10M of RAM, but it gradually increases. Within 20 minutes, it can get up to 700M of RAM. Now, when the program is restarted, all of this goes away and starts anew, but restarting the program every so often is a very loose solution. Here's what my program does: there's an array in which many (anywhere from 500-4000 or so) links are placed. I have a webbrowser that navigates to each of these and does an action on them, then moves to the next page. For example: [Code]
And all of the actions work perfectly, but the memory exponentially increases, resulting in a crash if left on for too long. I've searched Google and all I've found is that that's not the actual usage, and that if you just minimize it and maximize it again it will go down, but it did not when I tried it. Why is the memory increasing so much like that, and is there any way to fix it?

I've been scouring Google looking for a solution to my problem, but I can't seem to find anything so thought you guys might know a way of solving my problem.Im writing a little program which needs to change a few different memory address variables of a specific process.Does anyone know how first of all I can detect if the specific process is running on the user's machine, and then how I would read the value of the memory addresses, and write to them also.

Is there any box type in vb.net that is multi lined, however stays as a single line and when you click on it , it will open up into a multi lined box (because I want 10 of them in a small area , in single lines will be perfect but needs to have lots of information stored in each one) and then when the user clicks out of the box / into the next one, it returns to its single lined state?
