Programmatic Update Of Datagridview Cells Not Being Updated Back To Database?
Aug 25, 2010
I can edit the values in the dgv cells manually, add rows, delete rows all without problem and then update the database. My problem is in one form where I want to allow the user to filter the rows in the grid and then enter a value in a textbox and programmatically update all the cells in one column with that valueI can update the rows, and see the changes in the datagridview. When I try and update the database (using UpdateQuery on the underlying TableAdapter of the datagird) only some of thechanged rows are being updated I though it might be related
currently i had a program which working fine when its running in the solution explorer, but after published, problem comes.my datagridview cant show updated data while my database access already update...my datagridview only show existed data.could it be my datagrid problem?i get my data programmatically or is my INSERT command doesn't update the dataset?but in the solution explorer does show the dataset was updated. [code]
I've got a question below:load data from a table in database into a datagridview, make change in datagridview, and use update function to update change back to tablebut 13 changes, only 12 being update back to databaseonly the top row on the datagridview not being update??
For Each orow As DataGridViewRow In DataGridView1.Rows orow.Cells(1).Value = TextBox1.Text Next
I am programmatically updating some columns in a datagridview. When the user has also updated some columns then my program generated changes are also saved to the database (MSAccess). If the user does not update a dgv column, my program edits are not saved. I have read in another posting somewhere that I should be updating the bindingsource rather than the dgv cells. I have some code that was attempting to do this but it doesnt work.
Dim dvr As Data.DataRowView With TblClassMembersDataGridView .EndEdit() .CommitEdit(DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit)
[code]....
PS. Is the bindingsource in a on-to-one relationship with the table returned by the Fill method? If not, I can see one obvious error.
I want my users to enter some data into a bound DataGridView (dgv) and when done to have the program fill in some columns (hidden key) and to populate some cells in the same row according to the data entered - like max of several cells.
Can I use DataGridView RowValidating to update cells? Or is it just a Cancel or not issue?
What would be the correct way for me to fill in hidden key information and to calculate some cell values?
The code below updates all cells in a DataGridView column to a value from a textbox. This code works in that all cells in the desired column are updated on screen. The DGC is bound to a dataset. The problem is that when I call the dataset .Update method, sometimes the first row (row 0) does not get updated. I have run SQL profiler and can see that no SQL update command is submitted for the first row. The first row only gets skipped the first time the update is run after launching the app. Subsequent updates run for all rows, until the app is re-launched.
I have verified the row state is Unchanged with: Msgbox(DataGridView1.Rows(r).State.ToString).
The 2 commented lines below are other things I have tried that still cause the first row to be skipped.
Private Sub btnUpdateAll_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdateAll.Click If IsNumeric(Me.tbUpdateAll.Text) Then
I have a datagridview bound to bindingsource. Whenever I delete a row, it is not updated to the underlying database table. I have to click elsewhere in the form to cause the dgv_rowValidated to fire where I have the following code in there to push changes to the database:
bs,EndEdit Dim cb As New SqlCommandBuilder(myDataAdapter) myDataAdapter.Update(myDataSet)
Normally, where do I place such code for updating when comes to deleting a row in datagridview? I noticed userDeletedRow event does not fired when I am deleting the last row in a one row datagridview.
In my inventory mobile application , i use RDA.using the mobile device ,i update only the Barcode of a particular Item which is in the Item Master(.sdf file). then I push the tables to the SQL Server.there is a web application handles all the other functionality , including Item Master Changes.for and eg.
(1) I pull the Item master to the Mobile Device. (2)change the Item Name from the Web application.(NOT FROM DEVICE) (3)Update Bar code from the Device (4)push table from mobile Device to SQL Server.
In this situation Old Item Name is replaced. My need is only to update the Barcode.
I have a DataGridView bound to a data table. I have one column where I permit updates. After I fill the table (at form load), I make an update to this column Then I attempt to update the change back to the bound table. I get the error 'Update requires a valid Updatecommand when passed dataRow collection with modified rows'. I have seen some examples on-line to define, load, and update but since I have the generated datagridview with bindings, shouldn't the update method me a simple 1-liner? [Code]
My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,
VB.NET i have only one colum in back end database that is roll. .. Now i want to update a particular data .. the data types is integer.. i has a data like 12 and i ant to update it 13 how can i do..
I am connecting to a web service that returns a dataset that I use as a datasource for a windows client datagridview.
Once a user has made changes to the datagridview record(s), how do I get those changes back to the connected dataset and back to the remote database.
I wrote the sql update function in the service:
Code Snippet from web service
<WebMethod()> _ Public Sub Update_equipment_repair(ByVal repair_id As Int64, ByVal date_entered As DateTime, ByVal date_sent_in As DateTime, ByVal date_returned As DateTime, ByVal damage_description As String, ByVal vendor_id As Int64, ByVal repair_description As String)
[Code]....
This displays the records perfectly and I figured out how to delete and insert records via web service.
writing updates from the datagridview back to the database.
I am writing a small windows client application that accesses data using a web service that returns datasets. When the dataset is returned, a datagridview's datasource is set to the dataset.
My question is, how do I write changes that were made in the datagridview back to the dataset and then back to the remote database.
[Code]...
Now the client snippet that connects to the service and lists the equipment
I'm using VB 2010 Express with a local Access DB. I am having trouble determing whether there are changes in a DataGridView to save back to the underlying DB.
The DB has been copied to the project directory and its properties (by selecting it in the Solution Explorer) include Copy to Output Directory: Copy Always, so I know that any changes I make when running a build will disappear on the next build. The problem I'm having is within a run / test session, working with the application.
The Access database has the following connection string, with Application scope:
I am using the select command to find a specific row and if its found update it but when I update back to live database I get a concurrency error. Here is my
I am using MS Access 2003 and vb.net to develop a windows application of inventory management.
I have used datagridview in the form and using FillBytoolstrip option, can filter data using type.
But i have no idea as to how can i update the database to reflect the latest changes in the gridview.
following is the code I have used.
Private Sub BOM_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.PartnoTableAdapter.Fill(Me.HemDatabase1DataSet3.partno) End Sub
I have an app written in vb2005 that allows users to search a sql database for a store name. Once a store is selected, it then presents the user with 12 different tabs, each with a DataGridView showing various bits of info about the store. It's a large and convoluted database, so I'm using stored proceedures to pull the data for each tab. Here's a sample of one of the subs that populates the tabs.[code...]
Now, this works just fine to populate the grids on the tabs, and the same code is copied into each of the subs that fill the grids (changing the stored proc, parameter and grid names, of course). The problem I'm having is how to move changes made to the data in the grid back into the database.
I have stored procs that do this (and the procs do work), I just can't seem to figure out how to trigger the stored proc when the user makes a change.
If it matters, there is only a grid on each tab, I did not use a binding source as I am trying to keep an abstraction layer between the data and the app. I did create a dataset, which is how I gain access to the stored procs, but I left the grids unbound and (as seen in my code) bind them at run time.
Dim da2 As OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Dim cols As Integer = Attendance_QueryDataGridView.ColumnCount Dim rows As Integer = Attendance_QueryDataGridView.Rows.Count
If using a datagridview to update a database and the datagridview is bound to a bindingsource which has its datasource as the table to be updated: where dshould you place the tableadapter.update(mydatarow)
is there a way i can change the entire DGV back color to something else (including those cells)i tried DataGridView3.DefaultCellStyle.BackColor = Color.Indigo but that does not seem to work on the cells already colored. Im guessing this is because im only changing the default cell color?
I have implemented the filestream feature of SQL Server 2008 in a VB.Net application. I can insert files, and then retrieve/view them just fine. However, I have huge problems trying to update a file. Eg. The user selects a file from the grid which I execute via process.start. If that file is a .txt file, the user may choose to edit it. In case that happens, I need to save the changed file back to the database. So far I have failed to do that.
What I do, is take the retrieved file, copy it (cause i got some errors about it being used), and then Process.Start it. After that, via .NET filestream, I convert the file to bytes and try to update the record. SQL Profiler and a manual SELECT on the varbinary(max) column tell me that the file is updated properly, but the very next try to retrieve it I get an unchanged file.
After that I also tried to update the file by changing its File-System Version, but the file still wouldn't seem to update. Does Anyone have a code sample of how I can achieve this operation? Like 500 sites on the internet have examples of how to Insert And Retrieve the file, but not a single example on how to update. This is how my second attempt of trying to update the file via the filesystem looks like. The code for inserting/retrieving is very similar and it works properly. [Code]
im having a problem with replacing some files in a folder, i have made a Auto Upater for a application im making (so beta testers can test it and also get updated stuff to test) now i can replace the Main application.exe with
If File.Exists(Application.StartupPath + "\test.exe") Then File.Replace(Application.StartupPath + "\update\test.exe", Application.StartupPath + "\test.exe", Application.StartupPath + "\test.exe.old") End If
This is after i have unziped the main update.zip folder it downloaded
but i also have a Data folder in the Main application folder and inside the new update\Data folder its has updated files now i cant list all files to replace like above as i want be replacing all files all the time, so im looking for something like you have on windows (would you like to replace files) without the prompt its just replaces them, so really im looking for a move and replace without prompting
- on clicking a treeview, for every project of this customer, a new MDIchild opens, where the products of this project are displayed
- the MDIchild is basically a DataGridView, which is connected to the products-table via a DataView
my Problem comes after changing a value in the products DataGridView:
- if i do not change the row, the changes will not go back to the database after an update
- if i do change the row after entering a new value, everything works fine
The strange thing is, that in both cases, the value in the DataTable is changed, the DataSet is "hasChanges=True" and the DataRow's state is "Modified".
I want to save changes made in the Datagridview back to the database. I came accross Martin's solution HEREbut get an error: NUllReferenceExpection was unhandled. Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. Here's my code:
Dim con As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLExpress;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Integrated Security=True") Dim cmd As SqlCommand
I'm using DataAdaptors to pull data into a DataGridView. I want to make changes to the data via my DataGridView and then update the database when the user clicks the 'Update' button, but I can't figure it out. Below is my code.
