How do I update a field in the underlying bindingsource for rows selected in a datagridview.
I can do it for single row in the bindingsource but not for several selected rows in the datagridview.
bindingsource.table.current is usually the current row in the datagridview
I'm having problems with bindingsource. I have a proc used to update a datagridview from a bindingsource. When I run the debugger, the datatable appears to be populated rowcount is 2206 and 7 columns. When the bindingsource.datasource is set, everything looks good. The filter appears to be ok, however, when the datagridview is set to the bindingsource, it's not working. I have it in a try/catch block and an error isn't being raised. I have a datagridview bound to a table adapter. It displays data just fine. Part of this data is a comments field. When a user wishes to edit this I open a seperate form with the data in a a text box. After the user edits this text, how do I update the database / datagridview?
I can update the datagridview cell's value but that doesn't propagate to the database until the focus is removed from the row. I tried BeginEdit and then EndEdit (which should commit) but apparently it needs to move to another row!
I have a DataGridView bound to a DataTable. Although all rows are displayed in the grid, the table represented by the Grid's DataSource does not get updated after changing values in one or more DataGridView columns. Both grid and table contain a Primary Key. What am I missing here? Do I need to do something in the RowValidated event?

I need the user to be able to edit different values for the collection; However, on the datagridview, i need to keep displaying on one column called OldValue the existing Rate value before the change while allowing the user to edit that value in a second column called NewValue.
In other terms, One colum OldValue will keep the existing values from the DB before being edited by the user, this column OldValue is readonly. Another column NewValue will display, the 1st time, the old value from the DB (similar to OldValue when we do the Fetch from the DB), but it`s editable column, so the user can modify each value in the column NewValue without overriding OldValue cells. For now, I bound both columns OldValue and NewValue to the same property VALUE of the Rate object,

I have a DataGridView bound to a data table. I have one column where I permit updates. After I fill the table (at form load), I make an update to this column Then I attempt to update the change back to the bound table. I get the error 'Update requires a valid Updatecommand when passed dataRow collection with modified rows'. I have seen some examples on-line to define, load, and update but since I have the generated datagridview with bindings, shouldn't the update method me a simple 1-liner? [Code]
View 2 RepliesI have a DataGridView to which I've set a list of objects to the DataSource. (I'm in VS 2005 using VB.) I created the DataGridView by creating a Data Source of type AssetIdentifier and dragging that Data Source onto my form. I want to update the DataGridView when the selection in either a combo box or another DataGridView changes. (Below I'm considering a click in another DataGridView.)
The following works:

In this case, I always knew that assetIdList would have at least one element. I'd update the list, and reset the data source of the DataGridView to that list, and all was well. When I applied this to another situation, for which I couldn't guarantee that the list would have at least one element, things would work fine as long as I had at least one element in the list, but if the list became empty, the DataGridView threw System.IndexOutOfRangeException a number of times.
The rows in the DataGridView would not go away if I went from a non-zero number of elements to zero. I tried a workaround, which was to remove all of the elements, add one "dummy" element, and then re-bind the list to the control and it still didn't work. Also, following all of those exceptions, I'd get other similar exceptions when I hovered over the cells in the DataGridView. Some of the members of AssetIdentifier were "Nothing" but I fixed that in the constructor, and the exceptions still occur.

View 1 RepliesI have a DataGridView (dgv) on a Windows form (VB.NET) which is bound to a datatable. One of the bound columns is a an ID (Foreign Key) to another datatable. All I want to do is Hide the ID column and populate an unbound column with the Name (ParmName) for the user. I searched the foreign value in the datatable and retrieved the information. I set the Value of the cell in the Datarow. All works well, but does not display. The cell accepts the value...I can even Debug.Print the values to the console. They are there just nothing displaying in DataGridView. Nothing odd about DataGridView. Should be straight forward...

I need to display an two-column editable grid not bound to a database. I took a look at ListView with Mode=Details, but it appears that only cells in the first column can be edited. I then took a look at DataGridView, and am having two issues:
1. When editing a cell, it adds a new row: [url] How can I prevent this?
2. I don't like the grey background and would like the grid to fill the whole space, right and below.

I'd like to have an updateable DataGridView that's bound to a database-driven business object. It needs to handle all aspects of CRUD and be sortable and filterable as well.
Most of them simply bind to an object (non-database, manually filled) and do not allow you to Add, Delete, and Edit records. Furthermore, they basically never show how you would perform sorting and filtering.
I think the biggest things I'm not understanding are:
1) How do you make the DataGridView perform additions, deletions, and edits on an object.
2) How do you program your object to handle additions, deletions, and edits. Do you just need methods that use ADO.Net, NHibernate, or Linq to SQL (or any other CRUD handling mechanism)?
3) How to make this filterable and sortable.
Is this overly difficult to do or why am I have so much trouble finding examples for this?

I have an application doing the following:
- Treeview with customers
- on clicking a treeview, for every project of this customer, a new MDIchild opens, where the products of this project are displayed
- the MDIchild is basically a DataGridView, which is connected to the products-table via a DataView
my Problem comes after changing a value in the products DataGridView:
- if i do not change the row, the changes will not go back to the database after an update
- if i do change the row after entering a new value, everything works fine
The strange thing is, that in both cases, the value in the DataTable is changed, the DataSet is "hasChanges=True" and the DataRow's state is "Modified".
I want to save changes made in the Datagridview back to the database. I came accross Martin's solution HEREbut get an error: NUllReferenceExpection was unhandled. Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. Here's my code:

I�m trying to make a simple database editor using DataGridView.I have one DataGridView containing a lot of data on products and some parameters on how they should be tested. Some of these parameters, for example "Test method", is just a number. But if I look in the table for Test Methods that number has lots of other parameters. So if I select a "Test Method" Cell and click a button that table opens in a new form with just that "Test Method" (if I for example have selected a cell with the number 1, Test Method 1 will be shown in the new form). So far everything I�ve said works. I can even change values and update it to database in the first "Products" table. So here is the problem The DataGridView that shows the products is bound to a table and always shows the same thing which makes it easy to change and update using the following code

It seems like the problem is that because I change the data under run its not really bound to the database. And I haven�t found any complete solution to this. I have found some similiar problems and it seems I need to update each row using the command
