I have this idea of developing a vb.net desktop app. That pops up a cartoon human figure on the desktop corner and reads a particular file saved some where on the pc. Like TEXT to SPEECH or something.
I'm making a speed card game [URL] for the final in one of my programming classes. I'm looking for a little assistance with how to go about getting it done the best way. I've included the code I have so far below. How does it look? What would you do differently? Would you do anything the way I did? I need to have one AI player and a human player.
I am trying to simulate human temperature taking. Basic I just need a button, a textbox , a progress bar and a timer. What I want to do is that when the button is clicked, the progress bar will slowly increment and after it reaches maximum, a random number in the range 35-40 will be generated in the text box.
Now so far, this is what I've done: Public Class Health Private Sub Health_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load End Sub Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Timer1.Start() [Code] .....
So this is suppose to be a temperature gadget for kids and therefore when a certain amount of temperature is reached...an alarm is sent to the parents. So the progress bar is working fine. The random number generator too. A "sent" dialog box is open if the temperature is >38. 1-The number is working. But I would like the number to b e generated AFTER the progress bar reaches maximum. 2-The sent dialog box is open basically the moment I click on the button to start the progress bar (if the num generated is>38). And it keeps up looping and opening.
as above how to do that man? I will also want to extract the information to be sent from the database. An example of what i am going to do is something like this:
This is a homework assignment, but i want help, not answers. I made the form for this project, but my instructor supplied the code, the problem is, it doesnt work haha I have been trying to troubleshoot this for the past couple of hours but my problem is that when it comes to VB, my major weakness is database connections. When i run the code the form does not pull any data as it is suppose to. My thought is that it might be outdated because the instructions i got told me to "open Visual Studio 2005" so i dont know if the VB code from 2005 to now has changed? I have VS 2010 and SQL server 2008 R2. My first thought was that maybe my connection string was wrong, but i put in the same information that i use to connect in sql server management studio and i read that if the connection string was wrong VB would throw an error, is that right? With all the code entered in VS, it doesnt show any errors such as syntax errors etc.
It does error out when i run the program though, im guessing because when i click update, or edit, it cant because there is no data in there to edit or update. I'm wondering if someone could review this code and tell me why it isnt pulling data and explain it to me so i can understand. I will attach my whole project instead of pasting the 500 some lines of code.
I want to write a human resource programme that can accept employee records and compute for their salaries and overtime and also print out the needed salary slips and reports.
We have a Windows Forms VB.NET application running on Windows Server 2008. Users access this app using Remote desktop. The app displays information in Excel, but Excel opens on the server. Is there a way for the .NET app to launch Excel on the users local desktop?
Some of u already know I'm making a 'virtual desktop'- thing.Only one problem. When switching to a new desktop it starts a new instance of my app in that desktop (works) and on the form load event it says process.start("explorer.exe") <- here is the problem. It only shows a window not the actually bar. Also this may be important it shows the window, but when I navigate to explorer.exe 'C:Windowsexplorer.exe' and open it there. The explorer bar does show up.
Greetings, I'm looking for a way to encode a string into HTML that uses human-readable tags such as ê (=ê). At the moment, I am using the HttpUtility.HtmlEncode() function, but it appears to return numbered tags instead of human-readable ones. For example:
Dim str as string = HttpUtility;HtmlEncode("vente - en-tête") 'Expected: vente - en-tête 'Actually received: vente - en-tête
Is there a setting or function in ASP.Net to encode a string into HTML resembling the first comment?
EDIT: I am looking for this kind of functionality because the text is saved HTML-encoded in the database. The text comes from a bunch of MS Word documents that have been converted to HTML.
I have USB device that is detected as human interface device (HID). The device has one button on it. I want to have more of same devices attached to one PC. I would like to simulate a click on that device (it is not a mouse!). It should be simple using Windows API, but I just can't seem to find an example or at least function that does that (I successfully found code that takes position of a MOUSE, and sends click to a MOUSE, but I need that for my HID). What i really need is an example how to simulate click on HID (something like joystick).Second question is a bit more complicated and I can't find a solution. The HID when button is clicked returns data (5-6 bytes). But data returned is immediately printed to the screen (like i typed it on keyboard) and it is followed by CR, however no data is left on clipboard. I don't know how to get that data to my program. Detecting keystrokes using Windows API (something like keylogger), or to make a control (richtextbox) and retrieve data from that control? Thou important notice is that my program is complicated, involves multithreading (cross-thread operations are a mess) and is TIME CRITICAL (as much as it can be on Windows - you get what I mean), so cross-thread access of control will slow me down a lot or even just won't work. Something like this:[code]Even if this problem is solved it still makes it buggy because user should be able to use GUI all the time.
I have recently taken a liking to programming, and have programmed a few games in C#,my friend has asked me to program an application for him to use in his shop. But I have no idea of what language is best suitable?
I'm working on one of my applications and I'm trying to find a way to use the "Go To Desktop" function that goes directly to the desktop without minimizing any window (This can be achieved by clicking on the Win + D buttons or on the desktop icon in the quick launch toolbar), but how can I activate it using vb? I thought about sending keys but I guess there is more offical ways to do it.
I'm going through All-In-One Code Framework Coding Standards document and one of the recommendations is to add a file header comment at the start of every human-created code file. This is the first time I've seen such a recommendation and to me it's just an unnecessary and ugly clutter but I'm wondering if someone could explain why M$ recommends this?
Class Human End Class and another class which refers to the human class
Class ASD Private somevar as new Human End Class
Ok now i've got a problem, i wish to rename my class Human, to Man. i've got to change Human to Man 2 times, which is OK but the problem is that in the real case, its not just 2 times, its like 500 times or more.
Well its something like a PHP on Javascript.
the following shows the solution of what i'm trying to do, but its in another language PHP/Javascript:
note: in php $ sign declares a variable, echo writes the variable out
I avidly create games in VB.net. Being a hobby programmer I give my games away for free. Since I'm a hobbiest without formal training I do try and educate myself on proper programming principles and follow them when programming such as OOP. There are however some things I have obviously missed being self-taught that perhaps I would know if I were formally educated. Once such issue that has really been my bane is how different classes (from now on referred to as objects) 'know' about each other WITHOUT programming specific interaction.
Okay imagine this, you have a space game and the following objects
[CODE]...............
Now each one of these objects has a Health, X,Y and Z private members and properties that are all inherited from clsSpaceEntity for argument sake. Now one way of programming collision between them would be to code out the following logic in the main game loop
[CODE].........................
Now this might seam okay if your talking about the simple example above but some of my games have tens or even HUNDREDS of objects that interact in this basic way. Is there a way in OOP to do the following... for each thing that inherits from clsSpaceEntity check against every other object that inherits this type (except itself) and if they collide then reduce health next? This sort of ability for a type of objects/class or whatever to be 'aware' of another and how they are the same/different and interact would save me tonnes and tonnes and TONNES of coding.
In short words I am looking for a .NET translation of JFugue.Update I realize that there is no real .NET alternative for JFugue,Note: I want to emphsize that my search is on the transcription part, not the playing part, in other words, I am looking for a .NET engine that has MIDI-mapping classes etc.
im using tasks parallel library in .net 4.0 i want to have the ability to specify a task for each core independant of the other cores. usually in TPL, i create a task and i tell it to run in parallel, i have no control over the number of threads created nor can i control the number of cores to participate in the parallel task. also, i cant specify each particular core a different task.i'd like to know how to achieve this in TPL if it is possible.
n a program i'm using i want to be able to create a box (done that) but pressing a button, but now i need to attach a sub onto it so i can interact with it, how would i do this?
So far I have worked with C Programming and C++ Programming. I am fairly new to DOT NET environment and my current project requires VB.Net skills. I need to know
1)Which books to refer for starting with VB.Net language? 2)How to Start with VB.Net Programming? 3)Are there any forums/articles for quick head start.
I have done my application programming in VB. But now i am trying to do some application related to network programming. But i am unable to find the winsock control in Visual Studio 2010.
I have been reading up on the parallel programming and even now still a little confused on the whole concepts. Lets say I have a single project with about 5 classes that interact and have local variables in methods and variables accessible to all methods in a single class and even 1 or 2 variables accessible to all classes accessed through instantiation. Now using threads I know that global variables would be overridden by multiple threads if there were no locking applied but local variables to a method/function do not, right?
So if I ran the project multiple times meaning as a new process, the methods and variables would be thread safe right and no data corruption occurs? So to implement parallel programming using the task factory, if I created a project that basically creates tasks and each task is basically running an instance of another project, then shouldn't the variables and data be thread safe and safe from corruption? But what if I had the output files and they named by Output & datetime.now.tostring, would there be conflict issues and I ask this knowing that I have seen this happen when trying it. [Code]
