View 2 RepliesI'm learning to play the Trumpet and thought it would be a great idea to write myself a flash card type program that would flash a note, pick up the sound from the microphone, determine the pitch, compare it to the note and evaluate right/wrong. For example, it puts a middle C on the screen, listens for a tone above the din and beeps or buzzes if the result is right or wrong.
View 2 RepliesI am rather new to VB and every now and then I get an idea of a small project I would like to work on to increase my skills. What I am trying to do is:
1. Input the sound from the microphone
2. Detect what pitch the sound is
3. Compare it to the pitch displayed
For example, lets say I was to have the button "Start". When start is clicked, a pre determined (Or possibly random) note is displayed through a Label for 5 seconds (Lets use C as an example). During this time, the user can attempt to match the note C. When the user sings through the microphone VB picks it up, detects what note the user is singing at, and then scores him over the 5 seconds based on the difference between his note and C. It would also be nice if I could display the volume of the microphone, but this is not too important.
I'm pretty new to VB and I chose a project for school to recognise the pitch/note of a sound comming from my microphone (Which I'm using singular notes using my Guitar). I have no idea if this is even possible :/ So if possible, what things should I be considering and what I pretty much need to do to get the ball rolling for me
View 1 Repliesget data like the pitch and volume of the sound currently being "heard" through a microphone?
Do you know the little graph which the Windows 98/XP sound recorder used to show? It used to show the pitch and volume of the sound which was being recorded. Like I want to get the data from that.
Basically, I will start experimenting this stuff by showing the volume of the sound entering the microphone in a label. And maybe the pitch too.
can somebody tell me the codes that a webcam can detect a human.
View 4 RepliesI spent some time with data modems till I realized it's a voice modem that I'm going to need in my application. I see that there are some other commands for a voice modem, although nothing very elaborate. I would imagine you make the call as you would in a data modem ATDT etc and it looks like there is really just one command to send audio...
AT+VTX
AT#VTX
Not sure what this is all about except maybe just different standards? Still not sure about how to detect when the call is answered though. I won't be talking to another modem. Maybe the serial port itself has a pin change or something? You would think there would be a bit "somewhere" that the modem would generate when it quits ringing. I may have build my own outboard box to do this. (easy enough -- probably more reliable too -- modems sure need rebooting a lot it seems).
Here is the goal though --Voice modem calls out, call is answered, and I inject my audio from the PC sound card for a minute or so and then tell the modem to hangup.
I have a voice program that can compare voices to stored voice files and identify people based on that. It's not the most accurate thing, since being sick or other weird things can make it fail, but it does work for the most part. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the voice recognition running during an unlock and wait for the person who locked it to come back. Upon giving the command and voice verification, if it passes, the computer is unlocked by my program. Is there anyway to do this in VB.NET?Summary: Can a program unlock a computer after it's locked?

View 1 Replieshow to even get started with this, so I need a few tips. writing code that will allow me (or my program) to "see" what the pitch is of the sound that is currently being detected by my microphone. I am familiar with VB.NET, and Java. I think this is called a spectral analyzer... I want to build a very primitive one.

I want to get the pitch of a song at any point. I plan on storing the pitches later. How can I read say... an mp3 file or wav file to get the pitch played at a certain point?
Here is a visual example:

I have this idea of developing a vb.net desktop app. That pops up a cartoon human figure on the desktop corner and reads a particular file saved some where on the pc. Like TEXT to SPEECH or something.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to simulate human temperature taking. Basic I just need a button, a textbox , a progress bar and a timer. What I want to do is that when the button is clicked, the progress bar will slowly increment and after it reaches maximum, a random number in the range 35-40 will be generated in the text box.
Now so far, this is what I've done:
Public Class Health
Private Sub Health_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
End Sub
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Timer1.Start()
[Code] .....
So this is suppose to be a temperature gadget for kids and therefore when a certain amount of temperature is reached...an alarm is sent to the parents. So the progress bar is working fine. The random number generator too. A "sent" dialog box is open if the temperature is >38.
1-The number is working. But I would like the number to b e generated AFTER the progress bar reaches maximum.
2-The sent dialog box is open basically the moment I click on the button to start the progress bar (if the num generated is>38). And it keeps up looping and opening.
I have ASN.1 format files. I have to convert into CSV(comma separated) format also readable one. Tell me the shortest way... Like Decoders etc.
View 1 Repliesas above how to do that man? I will also want to extract the information to be sent from the database. An example of what i am going to do is something like this:

This is a homework assignment, but i want help, not answers. I made the form for this project, but my instructor supplied the code, the problem is, it doesnt work haha I have been trying to troubleshoot this for the past couple of hours but my problem is that when it comes to VB, my major weakness is database connections. When i run the code the form does not pull any data as it is suppose to. My thought is that it might be outdated because the instructions i got told me to "open Visual Studio 2005" so i dont know if the VB code from 2005 to now has changed? I have VS 2010 and SQL server 2008 R2. My first thought was that maybe my connection string was wrong, but i put in the same information that i use to connect in sql server management studio and i read that if the connection string was wrong VB would throw an error, is that right? With all the code entered in VS, it doesnt show any errors such as syntax errors etc.
It does error out when i run the program though, im guessing because when i click update, or edit, it cant because there is no data in there to edit or update. I'm wondering if someone could review this code and tell me why it isnt pulling data and explain it to me so i can understand. I will attach my whole project instead of pasting the 500 some lines of code.

View 3 RepliesGreetings, I'm looking for a way to encode a string into HTML that uses human-readable tags such as ê (=ê). At the moment, I am using the HttpUtility.HtmlEncode() function, but it appears to return numbered tags instead of human-readable ones. For example:
Dim str as string = HttpUtility;HtmlEncode("vente - en-tête")
'Expected: vente - en-tête
'Actually received: vente - en-tête
Is there a setting or function in ASP.Net to encode a string into HTML resembling the first comment?
EDIT: I am looking for this kind of functionality because the text is saved HTML-encoded in the database. The text comes from a bunch of MS Word documents that have been converted to HTML.
I have USB device that is detected as human interface device (HID). The device has one button on it. I want to have more of same devices attached to one PC. I would like to simulate a click on that device (it is not a mouse!). It should be simple using Windows API, but I just can't seem to find an example or at least function that does that (I successfully found code that takes position of a MOUSE, and sends click to a MOUSE, but I need that for my HID). What i really need is an example how to simulate click on HID (something like joystick).Second question is a bit more complicated and I can't find a solution. The HID when button is clicked returns data (5-6 bytes). But data returned is immediately printed to the screen (like i typed it on keyboard) and it is followed by CR, however no data is left on clipboard. I don't know how to get that data to my program. Detecting keystrokes using Windows API (something like keylogger), or to make a control (richtextbox) and retrieve data from that control? Thou important notice is that my program is complicated, involves multithreading (cross-thread operations are a mess) and is TIME CRITICAL (as much as it can be on Windows - you get what I mean), so cross-thread access of control will slow me down a lot or even just won't work. Something like this:[code]Even if this problem is solved it still makes it buggy because user should be able to use GUI all the time.
