View 1 RepliesMy freeware program launches 50 freeware programs and provides a guide for PC maintenance and health. As mentioned in another post, my program was reviewed on Sofpedia. One thing the Reviewer criticized was the fact that my program requires the user to install these 50 programs in the default locations (usually C:Program Filesx). The reviewer thinks it would be best if the user can install to any location he/she desires and my program be able to point to the proper location when launching the application.
View 10 RepliesI have a program in vb express 2008 which I would like to publish in a little more professional manner than provided in the standard vb express package. I would at least like to include a "Terms of Use" document the user must agree to before installing the program. I have dovnloaded and installed web developer, c# and vs 2008. Do any of these include a professional installer? If not are there any free installer packages available? I am 72 and live on a limited budget so I cannot aford an expensive package for one program.
View 3 RepliesUsing Build ---> Publish is nice, but it installs (on the client's machine) into an esoterically-named directory. As you can imagine, this is a nightmare to backup. Does anyone know how I can direct this thing to install into a directory that I choose?
View 1 Replies how you can choose the directory to install your program to because when I publish the program it installs only to the directory it was published to! would I need another program to move the files to the directory I want?also im using .mdb files in the program and I want these files to be installed to the same directory but the files arent even in the Application files folder when it is created so when I run the program I get an error telling me the program cant find the .mdb files at the location specified in the code
ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersdazzaDesktopUserid.accdb
that is my connection string, obviously when I install the program it isnt going to be correct so how do I change it oce the program has been built#
i have created an application on my windows vista 64-bit computer. I need to be able to install the application on other computers. I copied over the setup.exe file as well as the other files that the publish wizard created onto my flash drive. I then put my flash drive onto a windows xp computer and copied over the install files. I ran setup.exe, it said it was installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. The progress bar didn't move for an hour. I canceled that and tried to just run the manifest. It prompted to 'run' it etc... i did that and it said the .NET Framework that i canceled was required.
When i built the application ClickOnce was not enabled, the second time i did it ClickOnce was enabled. I then started to play around with the files that were required. What is wrong? I need to be able to install this application on other computers but mine. It works perfectly on my vista but wont even install on the xp. Do you think i am just doing something wrong as i publish/build it?
i'm using clickonce on vista. i have vb.net 2008 express. i wanted to have my app available for install via a web page and also be able to check for updates. i can't seem to get frontpage server extensions working properly. is there another way to do this?
View 1 RepliesI have just finished a VB2005 Express Edition program that I would like to distribute, but am encountering this error message during the execution of the setup.exe file on the destination computer:
[Code]...
I have finally finished an application which works really well on the PC upon which I developped it using VB 2008 Express. My problem is that when I publish it and try to install the ClickOnce output files on another PC (tried two so far, both WinXP) I get a missing files error. There is an error output saying that downloading the .exe.manifest file did not succeed. Unfortunately the error detail is confusing and does not seem to indicate exactly which files are missing. On both of the PC's that I tried I was prompted io install .net 3.5 SP1, which seemed to have been successful. The inference is that it is not a .net file that is missing.
View 2 RepliesI've built a couple of Apps successfully, but having published them to a Network Folder, Non-Admin Users can't install them themselves because the Install attempts to create an Entry in the Start Menu. There may be other Security issues (I need 4 of the permissions included if I publish it as a Partial Trust Applications, which I think affect this) after this point that I'm not aware of, but yeah, it fails when trying to create a Start Menu item -
+ Access to the path 'C:Documents and SettingsJameOStart MenuProgramsMynas' is denied.
I think excluding the right is just part of the SOE, but is there some way I can create this and have it NOT create a Start Menu item, haven't been able to find any?

View 2 RepliesI am creating a program that will help in upload files to a website. One of the things that the website uses is the "Upload File" button. When you push it an "Open" dialog box opens (like OpenFileDialoge). What I want the program to do is auto fill in the direct file location for the website. So that the dialog box won't open or won't need input.

I have created a WCF service that I would like to publish in two locations one as the primary location, the second as a backup. If the primary goes off line, I would like the clients to redirect to the secondary on timeout. The two locations are not in a cluster, in fact one machine is local the other is located on another site but on the same network. I don't want code, I just want to know what it is called and were to find information about it so I can implement it.

Dev/Usr Environment info: I am using VB Express '08 and SQL Express '05 for my applications in a corporate networking environment and the users will be installing from a network share drive. I have tested this and it works fine, just the location seems to be undesirable.
In the past I have written VB6 and VB NET 2005 programs that are installed and on the user's computer. This had to be done because the salesmen in our company have has a set of local data on their laptops so that they could do work and not be connected to our network. I would then sync the files when they connected to the network. (This same program is used by the rest of the company as well, but everyone else uses network data.)We are now at the point where we are not using any local data. Our salesmen access our network data using an iPad, VPN, and a Citrix server, which works fine

View 2 RepliesI created a small project in VB using a SQLExpress db. So far everything has been fine. I need to take the little I've done to the customer for a look and feel approval.
When attempting to publish the project, I get the following errors:
"The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file...." You know the drill.
The two files are SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.EXE and SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.EXE
I have downloaded the files and put them in the following directory:

When that didn't work, I copied them to

Same error
What's different about SqlExpress than other prerequisites?
I am trying add the prerequisites with my setup i have set the prerequisites download location to the same whwere my application is and now i am getting this type of several errors.

I made a pop-up blocker in my Visual Basic browser. Here is my code:

But how can I make it to where the user can choose if they want the pop-up blocker on or off? Also, how can I make it block pop-ups, but still open clicked links in a new window of my browser? Just curious.

I am using visual basic 2010 express and would like to know how i can use a text box of sorts or windows explorer function to allow a user to save a file to a location of their choosing. At the moment a folder and .txt file is created in the mydocuments folder of the user's computer using this code
Basically I need to make a program that lets a user browse and choose a folder, then I need a box that the user can then select the files to work with, then with the selected files I need to put them into a zip file. I'm trying to use a list view box but having all kinds of problems using the data in it.
