Pulling Data From A Listbox?

Jun 9, 2010

here's what I'm doing. I'm putting together a program that will allow employees that work under me to all submit shift reports in the same format instead of getting multiple different formatted text files.

I have a list box that they add "actions" they've performed throughout the day. It's populated by a combo box and some text boxes.I've got it all functioning minus one aspect...

[Code]...

Here's my problem... it's only outputting the FIRST set of items. The "Upgraded" accounts all list but the "Downgraded" and "Canceled" are not there.In a perfect world, I wouldn't ever need to worry about "Canceled" or "Downgraded" but... the world isn't perfect so,

Pulling A String Of Text From A Web Page Body?

i need to copy the text from a webpage into a txt file which will then be copied into a txtbox on my form (this parts done),the web page url will always be the same and the page will contain just a line of text that will chage from time to time

also i need it not to update the text file if the page displays "page cannot be displayed"i think the best way to do this is if i always start the website text and end the text with a certain "very random" word like "websitedownload" this will never come up anywhere elsealso if it doesnt copy unless the url is exactthis will stop default search engines kicking in.the website is mine/company's so this i can do

Pulling SQL Data Into Text File - Some Fields Null / Blank

Apr 2, 2010

I am trying to pull sql data into a text file. The code works just fine, until some new data comes in from lazy employees and a couple fields (used for notes/comments) are now left blank. Originally I've never seen them blank so I didn't think anything of it.
col2 = myreader.GetString(1)
It will error if the field is ever null - I even tried using a case when:
case when note is null then '" & empty & "' else note end and set the variable emtpy = '', but vb still thinks that it's null and errors?

VS 2010 - Statement That Reads Through A Text File Till The End While Pulling Out 3 Different Matched Items

Oct 10, 2011

Im trying to come up with a do while statement that reads through a text file till the end while pulling out 3 different matched items, then writing those matched items to ascending spots in an excel file, and then creating a bar graph according to the saved data. Sounds complicated but...I have the program reading the text file, pulling out the first iteration of all three, writing them to an excel file, and I have it even graphing them the way I want it to. The only thing I havent done before (and which is probably the easiest), is creating the do while statement so it keeps searching line to line for the three interactions of what im looking for and writing them to ascending spots in the excel file.

Right now my code works like this, which is perfect for pulling out the first 3 and creating a graph, I just inserting a do while and a rowindex + 1 variable.

vb Dim alines() = System.IO.File.ReadAllLines("C:deviceinfo.txt")
Dim amatch As String
Dim muvalue As String

[CODE]................

I have a feeling in order to pull this off, I do not want to use the, "ReadAllLines" option and possibly want to put the text into an array.

And do something like: if lines.count > 0

But im not familiar with how arrays work in VB, and more specifically what the syntax is. The other tricky thing I am trying to add is an if statement that adds to a variable (such as i) everytime a line is added to excel so the program will write to ascending lines. I was trying to have the it work with the do while statement but pretty soon realized that if I did: i = i +1. Everytime it went through the loop then the data was going to be on random lines corresponding to their place in the text.

VS 2010 Make A Program In Which If The Textbox Text And The Listbox Text Are The Same Order?

Apr 25, 2012

im trying to make a program in which if the textbox text and the listbox text are the same order, which they are in the picture, a bluie fonted text saying well done appears. However only the red text appears which is only meant to come when the order of the text in both listbox and textbox isnt the same.

Here is the code that i used for this:

listarrays = name of listbox
textbox1 = name of textbox

l is the name of the label for correct answer(blue font)label3 is name of label with red font which should only appear for wrong answer

Dim text As String = Me.TextBox1.Text
For Each item As Object In listarrays.Items
If item.ToString = Me.TextBox1.Text Then

[code].....

use another textbox instead of the listbox but thats just making itmuch harder for me as I already made the full code working with the listbox. My lecturer told me i need to convert both in string so both textbox and listbox are compatible and i did so (see code above) but the correct label doesn't show?

Write Listbox Text To Text File And Keep Columns Aligned?

Apr 16, 2011

I've got a program which displays data in a listbox in five columns. All are separated using one or more ControlChars.Tab. I want to write these columns to a text file, however, when I do, my columns lose their alignment. I can change alignment so that it displays nicely in text file, but then it is off in list box. Is there a way to get what I see in my listbox to display the same way in a text file - maybe a different way of separating my columns (not using ControlChars.Tab)?

Pulling From A Textbox?

Sep 25, 2008

I have a textbox where a user enters the time in minutes:seconds format. I want to take whatever number that is in front of the colon and store it in a variable called minutes, and whatever is after the colon and store it in a variable called seconds. I have everything declared and my code written, I just don't know how to take the text from a textbox and when the value is stored in my variable to only include up to the colon. I think it has to do something with the string remove method, and I can remove the colon, but I don't know how to get the characters after it. (and I can't use number of characters because I don't know how many the user will enter)

Reading Text From A Text File Into A Listbox

Dec 15, 2010

I'm a little new to VB, and I'm in a class for it, but I'm trying to do something we aren't going to learn in the class (mostly out of sheer interest) and I need help. I'm trying to read lines from a text file into a listbox, each line representing a new item on the listbox. For example, if the text file reads: [code]I want to be able to take that as is and read it into a listbox, where those words would appear in the exact same fashion; as a list, each as separate items. I've looked at the Help stuff and learned (sorta) about delimiters... but the thing is I don't want to write my entire list in a continuous line separated by commas--I want it to keep reading each line, and moving on to the next, until there are no more lines left. I am thoroughly stumped, and would appreciate it SO much if someone could help. For a frame of reference, this is the point I'm at now with my code: [code]Note that when I run the program, all it will do is read the first line of text available and stop; once I press ENTER in a text file, it decides to stop reading.

Pulling Textboxvalue Into Multiform App?

Nov 16, 2009

Basically we're creating a multiform app for class with 3 different forms. its going to be a game.
My startup form asks only for your name and your total units to play with. Then you're able to click a play button, which opens up a new form that will display your total units available (from the first form) and allow you to enter how much you wish to wager for that round.

I wish to know how to pull the info from my textbox (txtUnits) on the first form (frmWelcome) and have it show up in a label(lblCurrentGameStake) on my second form (frmMain).I thought about maybe putting the value in a string and then calling that on my second form but it doesn't work. Pulling Urls Into Excel?

Nov 25, 2009

I am pulling urls into excel, but excel formats the data. if a website displays 000.4500 excel formats it to .45.... i need everything exactly like displayed on the webpage, so excel should not do anything with it.

I tried formatting the worksheet to text (keep everything as entered exactly) and that did not solve the problem.

I can show code, but i'm not sure if this is a coding problem at all. I am just confused and can't seem to find any good information on this problem.
