I need to display data from a complex sql query controlled by 2 combos. The sql main query part is working fine but I cannot get to link the combos to the query. On form load I load combo1 by means of a sub. Then with SelectedIndexChanged I load the combo2. Both combos load fine by do not intereact with eachothers meaning combo1 doen't filter out combo2's information.

I have to join two main tables, and I need to filter the results by elements in an ASP.NET web form. These filters are created on the fly so I have to use a lot of where extensions to filter the query. I want to execute the query with as optimized SQL as possible.
I am first doing a simple join between TW_Sites and TW_Investigators. Then there are two sub-tables that are involved. TW_InvestigatorToArea and TW_InvestigatorToDisease. While most of the where clauses are working fine, I have found a performance issue that won't be an issue right now, but will be an issue as the table gets bigger.
The arrays DiseaseCategories and DiseaseAreas would be the results of a CheckBoxList result.

This is non-trivial, but very common. So before I re-invent the wheel, I would like to see if anybody can point me to some already-written free code or release some of their own.
Required:
To be able to specify some 'where-clause' type logic like this: Age>21 and (Citizen=True or HasGreeCard=True) but without having to type the query code, instead, use a UI with constrained options and on-the-fly syntax checking (e.g., no unclosed parenthesis or ending a term with an Operator).
I've seen this type of thing in many line-of-business apps, where you can say 'add condition' and another line appears on the UI like this:
Dropdown of fields Dropdown of ops (=, >, etc) Blank box for entry
And you can add more lines, and the lines are all and'ed, but you can also decide to OR a few, or insert parenthesis (explicity or via indenting), NOT a line, insert, delete, and move lines around, etc.
Not required but nice:
WPF - I could convert from winforms. Extensibility using OO constructs. Validate the sanity of the query. Emit a System.Linq.Expressions expression tree - or similar data structure. If it attempts to execute the query I don't need that; but I don't mind removing it.

I am writing a simple app using Visual Basic 2008 Pro, and SQL Server 2005 as the backend. However, I copied the database file (.mdf) from another computer onto my laptop. I added it as a Data Source by having the Data Provider as "Microsoft SQL Server Database File" and have it attach the file to the local SQL server. However, it isn't set to copy the database to the output directory every time the program is run for debugging, as I thought that would save time.
Now however, the data update to the database are very wierd. I run the program, add some new data, save it, and it returns the new primary keys properly (that is, it turns from -1 to 4 or 5 or whatever, indicating that the data has been saved). When I close and re-run the application to check that the data has indeed been saved, it reflects the changes and shows me the new data. However, when the program is run again after some time, the changes I made are gone. I'm assuming this is due to some wierd way in which VB is updating the database that temporarily updates its cached or copied database, but doesn't actually change the real database. How do I fix this? I had previously done the same project on another computer, except there the data source was directly the local SQL server, and I had created the database directly on the server through Visual Studio itself, and I didn't face those problems then. Is there any way to manually attach the SQL Server database file (.mdf) to the local SQL server instance permanently, and change the app to use the attached database instead?

View 2 RepliesI used the tool about 3 years ago to create the classes for a webservice client to send or recieve arrays as complex data. Now i have to update these classes, since there are additional informations, that have to be exchanged. When i use the tool now with the new wsdl-files, it does'nt create the classes for complex data (structur, IGCTMObjectFactory), but only one class for simple data. In addition i have to establish a new client, that sends an array of complex data and receives another array of complex data. I tried to build the classes manually combining the client that sends an array with the client, that receives an array, but I failed.

I also want to setup a query in the query builder which will search the database according to the ID but i cant get it right i dont know why. i type in the form filter this: LIKE @ID + '%'. Up to now I have managed to successfully edit an entry in the DataGridView control and moreover to successfully update the data base file itself .

I have been coding an application for a LeaderBoard for a game. I have all the Login sorted using Mysql and even have all the Account infomation displaying in lables etc. for account info form. Now I am trying to UPDATE information and this is how I was trying to do this...
