MySQL Query - Updating Account Information Displaying In Labels

Apr 19, 2010

I have been coding an application for a LeaderBoard for a game. I have all the Login sorted using Mysql and even have all the Account infomation displaying in lables etc. for account info form. Now I am trying to UPDATE information and this is how I was trying to do this...

Dim UpdateInfo As New MySqlDataAdapter
Dim mycommand As New MySqlCommand()
Dim mydata As MySqlDataReader
Dim query = "UPDATE Login SET Pword = '" + UpdateTxtBox.Text + "' WHERE Uname = " + Login.Uname
mycommand.Connection = conn
mycommand.CommandText = query
UpdateInfo.SelectCommand = mycommand
mydata = mycommand.ExecuteReader()

But comes back with an Error saying... Unknown column 'username here' in 'where clause'. Now the username is in the database as I have just logged in with it and I am taking it I have the Query wrong somewhere.

Updating Labels Upon Show()?

Nov 6, 2011

My project will end up with several forms to be filled out. Once a form is completed, a button can be pressed revealing the next form or previous form if something is going to be changed. I've been using Me.Hide() so that the users screen doesn't get to cramped.

I'd like a few things to happen. If an input from one form changes a value on another I'd like it to update automatically, I figure some event on button_click or form_load. My problem is that different things work depending on how I open or hide a form. I would also like the forms that have been Me.Hide() to retain the value in the textboxes. Let me show you from a practice vb project so that you don't have to dig through the larger code.

Public Class Form1
Public Shared Info1, Xcord, Ycord As Double
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

[code]....

1) If I don't use "Public Shared", TextBox1.Text does not update.

2) If I reopen Form1 with the "Dim First As New Form1" method it seems to refresh the Form1_Load. If I use My.Forms.Form1.Show() it does not. Another side effect is that clicking the close button on the ControlBox ends debugging when using "Dim First As New Form1" and does not when using My.Forms.Form1.Show(). Wierd. I've set ControlBox to False on Form2 and Form3, otherwise the program remains running in the task manager. I've read other solutions to that problem, but my solution seems to work for me so far.

3) Xcord and Ycord are my attempts to have the other forms open on top of the first form. My problem now is that I have them set to CenterParent and they open where the first form used to be. If I move Form1, Form2 and 3 open where I've left them instead of centered on Form1, maybe. Form1 is set to WindowsDefaultLocation. My new plan is to set to manual and have Xcord and Ycord update and then offset based on form size. So far I haven't implemented that code.

4) Me.Close() ends the program.

Public Class Form2
Public Info2 As Double
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Dim First As New Form1 'Done so that Form1.Info1 works
[code]....

I'd like a consistent method that represents good programming practice. My understanding is that Public Shared is frowned upon. I'm also wandering if Me.Hide() is the right choice. I've also played around with .ShowDialog() which didn't work?

Displaying Specific Data In Labels?

Apr 15, 2009

I'm having some problems with a program I'm making in vb.net. I have two forms: one containing a datagrid with basic details of orders (date received, total value of the order, customer who placed it, date it was sent out). The second form contains a datagrid with more details (the stock code and quantity of each product purchased) on each indivual order. The second form also has a label containing the total value of the order. All this information is stored in a database.

By clicking on a row in the datagrid in form 1, I capture the OrderID of this row and use that to look up the information form 2 requires in my database. I only want to show the details of the order that was clicked. I'm having no problems filling the datagrid with the information I want but I'm unsure of how to get the label working.

I figure I might need to do something invloving a datatable, like this:

Dim table As DataTable
Dim row As DataRow
table = orders.Tables("Orders")
row = table.Select("Total", "OrderID = '" _passedText "'")
Label1.Text = "'row'"

Where Total is the column I want it to display and Label1 where I want it; _passedText the variable containing the OrderID of the record that the user clicked on form 1.

[2008] Labels Displaying Incorrectly On Other Machines

Feb 25, 2009

I've nearly finished my latest project (VB 2008 Express Edition) I built the project and ran the .exe from inRelease and it appears and works exactly as it did in Visual Basic

When I carry this .exe to any other computer, it displays differently. The biggest difference is the font size in labels (grows on other machines) and the size of the tabcontrol is a bit larger on other machines. see the links below for comparison (coding machine vs other machine) [URL]

note that both machines were set at the same screen resolution, both were using the default Windows XP "Theme" and display fonts appear to be set the same on both machines. I've tried this on about 3 other XP machines with the same result (only looks correct on the machine I coded on)

I've specifically used Microsoft Sans Serif font, size 8 (VB seems to display this as 8.25pt in the properties window) I have also tried making all labels "UseCompatibleTextRendering" both true and false with the same result. Perhaps something on the original (programming) machine is different that is throwing this off? Am I missing a step when building this project? If other encounter this problem often, what steps do you take (when programming) to avoid this and allow the form(s) to display correct regardless of the user's settings?

Edit: One difference can be found in (Right Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced Button) the DPI Setting on the coding machine is Normal Size (96 DPI) The DPI on the other computers is Large Size (120 DPI)

The application will be used by roughly 100 folks on various systems (some Windows ME, most XP). How can I prevent things from going crazy with different user settings?

Displaying Data From Tables Of Database On Form Labels

Jul 14, 2009

I am new to the forum and I was wondering if anyone would know how to display data from the tables of a MS Access database on labels on a form. The code underneath is my code for saving inputted data from textboxes.

Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
objDA = New OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM CDetails", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Password=;" & "User ID=Admin;Data Source =" & Application.StartupPath & "CustomerDetails.mdb")
objDS = New Data.DataSet()
objCB = New OleDbCommandBuilder(objDA)

Displaying Information From An Array?

May 30, 2010

I started programming in VB many moons ago, but I put it down about a year ago. I picked back up a project I was working on a few years ago and Visual Studio 2008 Pro had to convert it. It seemed to work just fine but I wanted to make it "look .NETish", so I simply copied all the controls and code into a new project.The new project won't display information stored in static arrays on a Rich Text Box. The arrays are declared public in a code.vb file and the array is populated in the load event for the main form.I've tried inserting a "test" button to see if I could somehow get it to display trying a few different things. Essentially:

Private Sub cmdTest_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdTest.Click
Dim test As String = Gems(0)

[code].....

Has array conventions changed or something in the past year or so? How do I extract the information contained in Gems() that I have so maticulously entered so long ago

Displaying Information In A Grid

May 13, 2009

I am working on a Windows Forms Application and I have got stuck and wondered if anyone can provide some much needed direction. [Code] The user makes a selection of, say region, and then a DB layer sends back some linq IQueriable(of sometype) for a particular month. I wanted to add a month column each time they select a month.

I can't seem to do this too well with a datagridview, I have tried making a class that holds the measure as string and value as decimal and then create a list of these to bind but then if I add a new one I have problems as it just overwrits the origional one. I could just place a series of textboxes and fill them as I go but this seems like it is a problem waiting to happen kind of way. What I really need is some sort of grid that is expandable.

MySQL Count Rows Count Rows And Gain Access To Other Information In A Row Based On Provoided Information

Oct 8, 2009

I have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage.The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)

So, here goes nothing, this is the Query code I am using in PHP to complete the job I want to do in VB.NET. [code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. Once counted to be 1, the Activation Code and Status will be fed into 2 other text boxes in the form. (acCode, and acStatus).

Updating Information On A Database SQL?

Mar 24, 2012

I have a database with about 10 records - each with their own ID. I'm trying to add a new record, and to do this I decided to have a text box on my application form show what the next ID will be. Here's the code I am using:

Private Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click
'get EmployeeID from the textbox:
Dim intEmployeeID As Int16 = Val(txtEmployeeID.Text) + 1
'store the emlpoyee

[code]....

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again.How would I go about finding the maximum ID in the database and then adding 1 to it so I can display it in the text box?

Updating MySQL Table With DataGridView Changes?

Oct 28, 2010

I searched internet including this forums to find a working example about the following subject but couldn't find a solution about my problem.I have two main problems:1) I have a DataGridView filled from the MySQL database table. I want code update the changed records, when a "Save Changes" button pressed by the user.I created the code below to make it. It makes update on the changed row, but enters Null values. So after the update on the database, the values become null.2) At "Private Sub cihazmodeli_SelectedIndexChanged" section my code reads the database and loads the values to the DataGridView. When I make another change on the Combobox, it adds the values of the new SQL results at the bottom of the previous records. I tried to clean the results using either Clear() or some other methods but got a message meaning "Content entered with DataSource can not be cleaned with Clear or other methods". What is the way of clearing the previous choice's records?

Print A Page That Is Layed Out With Labels Filled With Text From Previousley Stored Information From The Program?

Dec 8, 2009

If it is at all possible, I would like to print a page that is layed out with labels filled with text from previousley stored information from the program. now, obviousley, because the text can change in amount, and so the labels need to be able to change in size, and if at all possible allow multiple lines, though if there is no way to do it, then an unchagable text box would serfice.

There is a problem though, the fact that the labels will be changing size means that the position of the labels needs to be variable to the previouse. Example: the box above needs to be bigger, so the box bellow needs to drop down equall to the amount that the above grows.
