Mar 24, 2012I have a database with about 10 records - each with their own ID. I'm trying to add a new record, and to do this I decided to have a text box on my application form show what the next ID will be. Here's the code I am using:

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again.How would I go about finding the maximum ID in the database and then adding 1 to it so I can display it in the text box?

The only way I can get the changes to display is to close and reload the "Main" form.
Updating Project Resources In Windows Explorer?
Jan 24, 2012If I have some resources added to a project, such as images or sounds, they are placed in Resources folder. Say I created a new image file with the same name and want to replace the one I added earlier.
Do I have to do this via Projects Properties Resources tab by removing the old one and adding the new one? Or can I simply copy and paste the new file in Windows Explorer into the Resources folder (replacing the old one)? Would it break the project? Does it matter if the project is currently open in Visual Studio?
VS 2010 - Updating Project Without Affecting Info / Details
Nov 21, 2010I just made a project which a registration it has Tables/Database. [MemID] [Name] [Address] etc... I try to test this program i publish this to make a installer, after the installation, i run the program i put some information:
Example:
MemID : 1
Name : Julio Jose
Address : PO Box
Then I save all the information. While running the program I noticed that I forgot to put a remove/delete button. I close the program, and I edit my project to put the button (remove).. after editing i try to publish, uninstall and install the program. I noticed that the information I save in the program is gone. My Question is: Is it possible to update your program with out affecting the details/information of your program?

Get Assembly Information For A Class That Is Part Of The Project But Not Executing
May 2, 2011Two of us at our company worked on a VB project. I developed the GUI interface. Another programmer developed some of the Classes that are also part of the project/Solution. Our manager wants to see as part of the 'Help/About' drop down, the version of the GUI application as well as the Class that the other programmer wrote. We are on the third modification of my GUI application, but the 8th version of the class that the other programmer wrote. Is there some way that the GUI application can get the 'Assembly Version' information for a class that may not necessarily exeuting at any given time?

On a form I can delete an employee, add a new one or modify existing one. When I click save new values are sent to the server. On a server I check if the user exists. If exists then I modify its values, if it does not exist then I add it. All employees that exist on the server and were not sent are marked as deleted (State changed to EntityState.Deleted). I try to use the following code (dbCollection = database entities, newCollection = collection sent from the form):

This code does not work, because changing to EntityState.Deleted removes the object from collection, and for each loop breaks, since the collection is modified...I know that I can overcome this problem by using a for loop or adding objects to delete to some other list first, but I hope maybe there is a pattern that would make my code nicer.

The issue is as my code hits PageLoadStage of "2" and runs the QueryDatabase() Function i am encountering an error of: "OleDB exception unhandled: No value given for one or more of the required parameters." This occurs on line 15 of the first code snippet. Can anyone explain this and/or identify any code issues if that is the cause.

May 24, 2012I have a text box where i am entering numbers of double datatype andon the Keytdown event of the textbox some checks take pace and in certain circumstances I want to be able to stop the user from entering other information until they enter the right information in the textbox (where it says right here) . now when I say exit sub the textbox somehow loses focus . but this is not how I want it to be I want the textbox to remain with the focus so the user can change the information . How can i go about this. And the other thing is why is my txtDestPayRate1.Focus() just befor the exit sub not working?

May 5, 2010For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.

Retrieve Information From A Binary File, Alter That Information, And Put It Back Into A New File?
Aug 27, 2009I am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together.What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file.The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing.What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file.The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:

If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length.This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way.Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string.These seem to change if I change the length of the string.At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.

Oct 8, 2009I have a fair bit of experience with VB.NET and C# (In this case I chose VB.NET, blame my laziness), but I do most of my professional work using PHP. I have no experience what so ever in using any database with VB.NET let alone MySQL.Just FYI, at the moment I am only trying to Query the database to gather the information required to activate. The Activation wizard and algorithm building (which is finished anyway), and everything else will come soon. I chose the MySQL database because I have experience with it, and it seems the best option for remote usage.The whole idea already works in PHP, I'm just have major issues moving it accross into VB.NET (Using the MySQL Connector.NET);I understand the basics, and all I need to know how to do is Count Rows and gain access to the other information in a row based on provoided information (in PHP, through mysql_ result)

[code] As you can see, I basically need to get the PHP code into VB.NET to fit into the 'btnQueryDB.Click' Command in VB.NET. By Equivalent, the Product ID in VB.NET will come from 'txtPID' and similar, Serial Number will come from txtSNUM. I have warnings and errors now, but I can still debug the project with the "last successful build" Iwould like to just revert everything to that build but I can't find a way to eliminate the problems I induced or find a way to go to a earlier build. Hopefully I can get back to an earlier version or I will loose the entire project as I can no longer get to the designer.

Feb 24, 2012If I put this piece of code in a new fresh vb.net form, add a button and two labels and start debug I get execution time of about 11.5s.If I put the same piece of code in a new form in an old project upgraded from an earlier version of vb.net, start debug I get an execution time of 7.5s.So I do exactly the same in the two projects but get different execution times.
What do I have to do with the fresh new project to get the same execution time ?I am not interested in improving the code to be able to calculate primes faster. I just want to know what is the significant difference between an old upgraded project and a new fresh one. I am using windows 7 64bit on a 2,4 Ghz Intel quadcore.

Asp.net - Converting A Web Site Project To A Web Application Project .net App_code?
Jan 23, 2012I am following the guidelines from [URL]..Mid way through the process they have you rename your App_Code to Old_App_Code folder and compile ... at which point i had DLL's in my BIN folder and i started to repair my aspx/ascx files.

Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
