Place Random Numbers Into Labels

Sep 8, 2011

[code] I am trying to place random numbers into labels, but the process that i am doing is taking way to long, just wondering if there is an easy way around this? I also need to know the answer to the sums that get placed into the labels and then check that against the answer in the text box.I have looked all over the DIC forums and nothing meets my queries.Please help, this is just a quick program for my son so that he can get some sums into him.

Rapidly Changing Labels To Random Numbers

Feb 18, 2011

As a brief summary, I have an issue writing a program. A part of the program has a While loop that is supposed to change some labels to random numbers every iteration of the loop. But, instead of all that, the labels just turn blank until the end of the loop is achieved, and only then is the random number written.

While (o < 3000)
r1 = Rnd()
str1 = CStr(r1)
Label1.Text = str1
o = o + 1
End While

Fibonacci Numbers Loop And Output To Multiple Labels?

Mar 29, 2011

I have attached the form in initial state. What you don't see in the initial state is 10 hidden labels. I want the loop(which I am calling as a function??) to compute the numbers and display in the labels. Example, if I input 1 for the first term, 3 for the second term and 4 for the total terms, the first 4 labels should become visible and have in them one solution each:

1 - 1
2 - 3
3 - 4
4 - 7

Am I way off with what I want to do? Cannot use arrays, must be a loop.This is the compute button:

Private Sub BtnComp_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnComp.Click
Try

[code]....

Bug In VB 2010 RC - Class Random - Always Produces The Same Random Numbers In The Same Sequence

Apr 4, 2010

The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.

Use .next (random Numbers) To Randomly Select Something From A List Of Numbers But It Can't Repeat The Number?

Aug 16, 2009

So how would I use .next (random numbers) to randomly select something from a list of numbers but it can't repeat the number?I could do:

dim num as integer
dim r as new random
num = r.next(1,5)
if num = 1 then
elseif num = 2 then
etc.

That wouldn't work because it would repeat.If I donwload someone's game can I disect it in VS? :0 I tried going to open project, then I went to the folder and clicked open. It brought me inside of the folder so I tried to open the game but there is no form1 there. It says the games name then .exe in the explorer-like thing in the top right?Also, how would I have a value or something in a label and access it from a button.

Example:This is in a label.

Dim number as Integer
number = 0

Then in the button do

Label.number = 0

How would I do something like that? I want to use that a lot as I did in a different language.

Random Numbers And Random Strings

Nov 24, 2009

I don't take programming lessons at school or anything, and I'm starting to (try to) teach myself about random things.Currently I'm making an app that has 3 functions:

-Random Integer (1 to 100)
-Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip)
-Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)

How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.

Displaying Specific Data In Labels?

Apr 15, 2009

I'm having some problems with a program I'm making in vb.net. I have two forms: one containing a datagrid with basic details of orders (date received, total value of the order, customer who placed it, date it was sent out). The second form contains a datagrid with more details (the stock code and quantity of each product purchased) on each indivual order. The second form also has a label containing the total value of the order. All this information is stored in a database.

By clicking on a row in the datagrid in form 1, I capture the OrderID of this row and use that to look up the information form 2 requires in my database. I only want to show the details of the order that was clicked. I'm having no problems filling the datagrid with the information I want but I'm unsure of how to get the label working.

I figure I might need to do something invloving a datatable, like this:

Dim table As DataTable
Dim row As DataRow
table = orders.Tables("Orders")
row = table.Select("Total", "OrderID = '" _passedText "'")
Label1.Text = "'row'"

Where Total is the column I want it to display and Label1 where I want it; _passedText the variable containing the OrderID of the record that the user clicked on form 1.

[2008] Labels Displaying Incorrectly On Other Machines

Feb 25, 2009

I've nearly finished my latest project (VB 2008 Express Edition) I built the project and ran the .exe from inRelease and it appears and works exactly as it did in Visual Basic

When I carry this .exe to any other computer, it displays differently. The biggest difference is the font size in labels (grows on other machines) and the size of the tabcontrol is a bit larger on other machines. see the links below for comparison (coding machine vs other machine) [URL]

note that both machines were set at the same screen resolution, both were using the default Windows XP "Theme" and display fonts appear to be set the same on both machines. I've tried this on about 3 other XP machines with the same result (only looks correct on the machine I coded on)

I've specifically used Microsoft Sans Serif font, size 8 (VB seems to display this as 8.25pt in the properties window) I have also tried making all labels "UseCompatibleTextRendering" both true and false with the same result. Perhaps something on the original (programming) machine is different that is throwing this off? Am I missing a step when building this project? If other encounter this problem often, what steps do you take (when programming) to avoid this and allow the form(s) to display correct regardless of the user's settings?

Edit: One difference can be found in (Right Click on Desktop -> Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced Button) the DPI Setting on the coding machine is Normal Size (96 DPI) The DPI on the other computers is Large Size (120 DPI)

The application will be used by roughly 100 folks on various systems (some Windows ME, most XP). How can I prevent things from going crazy with different user settings?

Divide Two Numbers Together And They Should Be 2 Random Numbers From 1-12?

Jan 10, 2010

Basically, I want to divide two numbers together and they should be 2 random numbers from 1-12 (I have done that part) but, the answer should be a whole number (i.e. Integer, so no decimal points etc) So, I did the following:

' Initialize the random-number generator.
Randomize()
' Generate random value between 1 and 12.
Dim value5 As Integer = CInt(Int((12 * Rnd()) + 1))

[code]....

but the problem here is that the program crashes after only a few clicks on the button. So I guess the question is: How can I make the program generate two numbers (from 1-12) that when divided become a whole number?(Is there any code that may tell the random generator that I want the numbers to be even?-so all even numbers from 1-12?)

Displaying Data From Tables Of Database On Form Labels

Jul 14, 2009

I am new to the forum and I was wondering if anyone would know how to display data from the tables of a MS Access database on labels on a form. The code underneath is my code for saving inputted data from textboxes.

Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
objDA = New OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM CDetails", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Password=;" & "User ID=Admin;Data Source =" & Application.StartupPath & "CustomerDetails.mdb")
objDS = New Data.DataSet()
objCB = New OleDbCommandBuilder(objDA)
[Code] .....
I would like to show these saved details onto another form. Is there a way to select rows and cells in the database and fetch the data in them to display them onto labels?

mycommand.Connection = conn
mycommand.CommandText = query
UpdateInfo.SelectCommand = mycommand
mydata = mycommand.ExecuteReader()

But comes back with an Error saying... Unknown column 'username here' in 'where clause'. Now the username is in the database as I have just logged in with it and I am taking it I have the Query wrong somewhere.

Saving Five Labels With Numbers In File

Nov 4, 2009

I've made a thing that has several labels that gives a number on each label. And if you press a button next to the label it adds one to the number. But enough about that. I wanna be able to save the numbers in a file. And when I press open and select the file I've saved in the numbers should appear on the same place they were before. To make this easy, lets say I have 5 labels with numbers that's needed to be saved.

Get 7 Different Random Numbers?

Jul 3, 2009

i want to know how to generate 7 "differents" random numbers.

I need to use a tab() with 7 entries and verify(with a loop?) if the generated number is or not present in the the table, if not then increment a counter by 1 and add the number in the table and increment the table position by 1 for the next randomized number.

Im not sure how to do the verification, so far all i have is a function i made for the random number between min and max:

Private Function randGen(ByVal min As Integer, ByVal max As Integer)
Dim random As New Random()
Dim i As Integer

Displaying All Prime Numbers In ListBox

I am suppose to write a program using if statements and loops: Create an application that reads an integer number from the user and then displays in the List Box all prime numbers (for this project we are going to violate "positive" rule and make our prime numbers be negative as well) between user's number and zero 5 numbers in one row. The application also displays how many prime numbers there are between user's number and zero, and the total sum of all these prime numbers.
