Random Numbers To Display Both Negative And Positive Integers

Feb 28, 2012

I have written a program that generates and prints 10 random integers from -10 to 10, my problem is that I am returning both negative and positive numbers, aligned right with a pad of 2, but the negative is on the right hand side of my number instead of the left. here is my code, all work but I need to align the numbers and have the correct notation of negative.

Display All Even And Odd Integers Between 2 User Input Numbers?

Mar 23, 2009

using for...next loop the program is supposed to accept 2 user inputed integers and display all even numbers between the two in one label and all odd numbers between in another label.

Private Sub displayButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles displayButton.Click
' displays the odd and even numbers between two integers
Dim intNum1 As Integer

[code]....

I'm not exactly sure what this code is doing. When I put 1 in the first number and 10 in the second number, the odd label only shows 9 and the even label only shows 10. Another example is when I put 2 and 15, the odd label comes out as 15 and the even label is 14. I'm very new to VB and programming in general and have just started getting into for...next loops and don't fully understand what the counter is or how the loop is supposed to work. I guess I'm having 2 problems. One is that I don't know how to make the program find the right numbers(my logic is off? or how I set up the loop isn't right?) and the other is the labels are showing only 1 number each instead of all the numbers in between on their own line.

Alter The .visible Property Of A Label Based On If A Variable Is Positive Or Negative?

Apr 11, 2010

I want to alter the .visible property of a label based on if a variable is positive or negative (Hiding it for negative values)
But I want to do this for lots of labels so If Statements are too bulky.

I tried this:

Label1.visible = CBool(IntVariable1)

But it turns out CBool returns True for ANY value and False for Zero.I'd assumed it would be True for positive values and False for negatives.How can I do it without if statements?I considered Modulo or SquareRoots to somehow convert a negative number into zero, but didn't want to complicate things with imaginary numbers.

Convert Positive And Negative Math.Sin (waveform Output Values) Into (unsigned) Byte Array?

Apr 19, 2011

I'm creating an emulator for a device to simulate wave forms. My challenge is that when I try to convert the output of the following code, I can't convert the Math.Sin's double output into byte values that lend themselves to the byte array format required by an existing graphing control as listed at bottom below. I''m not sure how to handle this when the sin function creates negative values but the byte values will need to be positive and basically 'shifted up' so that anything over 127 is negative. (0 - 255) unsigned. BitConverter.GetBytes has been suggested but THIS is the result of that attempt.

Write A Program To Request Positive Numbers One At A Time From The User In An Input Dialog Box

May 12, 2009

I'm currently in VB class at my highschool and we just got chapter 6.1 to read on this online textbook that we follow. Anyway, we are doing loops now and the problem reads "Write a program to request positive numbers one at a time from the user in an input dialog box. The user should be instructed to enter -1 after all the positive numbers have been supplied. At that time, the program should display the sum of the numbers." So far I know this much

[Code]...

Now I know this isn't right But I can't find out how I'd pull out the numbers the user entered to get the sum of them and not include -1 because as it stands, when I hit ENTER with -1 the label just shows -1.

VS 2010 Comparing Negative Numbers

Jan 22, 2012

I have this

[Code]...

All that is happening above is two players are being compared by scores and a winner is then decided. The calculation works fine and places the winner in the correct spot (txtWinner1.Text) as long as the numbers are positive. So if txtU1D.Text has 13 and txtU2D.Text has 14...txtU2 is the winner. Works with no problems. However, if txtU1 has -1 and txtU2 has -2...it says txtU2 is the winner. The negative scores are common in the game being played so the situation often happens, but may be one player only. It seems to work if one is positive and one is negative, but if both are negative it thinks the higher negative number is the winner for some reason. So it will give the win to someone who has -9 over someone who is -4.

Populating/comparing Random Integers In Array?

May 17, 2012

Basically what I'm trying to do is this, I have 20 statements in a Select Case (right now they're just labels for my own testing), I have a random number generator that will generate a number between 1 and 20. Since I don't want the same statement to repeat during the individual run of the program I'm trying to generate a random number, then check it in a dupeCheck method, then if it isn't a dupe I'm trying to return it to the select case and put it in the array so that when I choose the next random number if it's the same the dupe check method will catch it and return a False boolean and then the random method will do a recursive call to itself to generate a new random number and the whole thing starts again. I'm populating the numbers into the select case just fine, but VB keeps telling me that my functions aren't returning values on all paths, and stepping through I can see that the recursion isn't happening and that it's just sending the repeat number back, but I can't figure out where my major issue is. I'll show you my current skeleton code for the "GuessOrDie" as well as the first manifestation of the code I wrote for it a couple of days ago (the old code had infinite recursive calls and array out of bound exceptions)

I would really love it if you guys could take a look and let me know what mistakes I'm making, I'm having big problems moving from FOR loops in java to For/Each loops in VB and I suspect that is a big part of my problem.

Current Code:
Public Class GuessOrDie
Dim questHistoryArray(19) As Integer
Dim indexCount As Integer

[Code].....

Rounding Whole Numbers (Integers)

Mar 17, 2010

I'm a college student, working on a small project, and I'm having some trouble understanding the Round command on VB. The project is very simple and straight forward, just a simple Bail Bonds program to calculate the bail plus a 10% fee. However, i want to integrate a kind of "promotion", where for every $1000 of the bail cost, $5 would be deducted. I know the formula for this, which is reasonable simple, i just need to know how to round the Bail variable to the nearest 1000 so i can do this calculation.

Use .next (random Numbers) To Randomly Select Something From A List Of Numbers But It Can't Repeat The Number?

Aug 16, 2009

So how would I use .next (random numbers) to randomly select something from a list of numbers but it can't repeat the number?I could do:

dim num as integer
dim r as new random
num = r.next(1,5)
if num = 1 then
elseif num = 2 then
etc.

That wouldn't work because it would repeat.If I donwload someone's game can I disect it in VS? :0 I tried going to open project, then I went to the folder and clicked open. It brought me inside of the folder so I tried to open the game but there is no form1 there. It says the games name then .exe in the explorer-like thing in the top right?Also, how would I have a value or something in a label and access it from a button.

Example:This is in a label.

Dim number as Integer
number = 0

Then in the button do

Label.number = 0

How would I do something like that? I want to use that a lot as I did in a different language.
