C# - Format Double As String With Positive / Negative Symbol?
Aug 25, 2011
I'm outputting a Double that can be either (+) or negative (-). If the number is a negative the symbol (-) is included automatically, is there a way to do this for positive numbers as well?
The only (horrible) way I can do this is :
If MyNumber <= 0 then
string.Format("{0:0.00}", MyNumber)
Else
string.Format("+{0:0.00}", MyNumber)
End If

I have seen all over the internet to format a NEGATIVE double value with a parenthesis WITH a $ symbol ie. currency type.
I am looking for a .NET format string, to format
12345.67 = 12,345.67
-12345.67 = (12,345.67)

How do I have a positive number show the "+" sign before the number.
I feel that this should be easy but my searches must be too broad because I get way more info than I want and don't seem to find the easy fix.

Is there a built-in function in .NET (VB) to convert a negative number into a positive, and vice-versa?I usually end up just using:NegNum = PosNu - (PosNum * 2)PosNum = NegNum- (NegNum * 2)

The problem is simple: I have a form with textboxes, and in one of those textboxes, I want users to enter either a positive or negative 2-digit number. I'm looking for an easy way to enforce this restriction, i.e. without having to parse the number and check whether its absolute value is below 100.

I have written a program that generates and prints 10 random integers from -10 to 10, my problem is that I am returning both negative and positive numbers, aligned right with a pad of 2, but the negative is on the right hand side of my number instead of the left. here is my code, all work but I need to align the numbers and have the correct notation of negative.

I want to alter the .visible property of a label based on if a variable is positive or negative (Hiding it for negative values)
But I want to do this for lots of labels so If Statements are too bulky.
I tried this:
Label1.visible = CBool(IntVariable1)
But it turns out CBool returns True for ANY value and False for Zero.I'd assumed it would be True for positive values and False for negatives.How can I do it without if statements?I considered Modulo or SquareRoots to somehow convert a negative number into zero, but didn't want to complicate things with imaginary numbers.

I'm creating an emulator for a device to simulate wave forms. My challenge is that when I try to convert the output of the following code, I can't convert the Math.Sin's double output into byte values that lend themselves to the byte array format required by an existing graphing control as listed at bottom below. I''m not sure how to handle this when the sin function creates negative values but the byte values will need to be positive and basically 'shifted up' so that anything over 127 is negative. (0 - 255) unsigned. BitConverter.GetBytes has been suggested but THIS is the result of that attempt.

I am making a program that shows a data of azimuth and elevation of a radar. Example:
Azimuth = 203.40
Elevation = 3.52
I need that the data will always be two number after the point. Even when the number ends with zero (203.40).But the Double by default removes the zero from the end of the number.

I have this light sensor circuit that will return positive voltage or negative voltage. I want to plug it into the 9-pin D-Sub port on my computer. I already have a male connector. How do I connect the circuit to the D-Sub connector, and how do I read the value and convert it to a Boolean in a program? How do I set up the cables? It only returns one 1 or 0 value. Is it possible, even?

I keep receiving this same error about 3-4 times a day and have had no luck tracking down how to resolve this issue. According to the stack trace, the error is occurring within the Microsoft.VisualBasic library so how exactly would I go about fixing this issue? Here's the report I send to myself and what gets generated by the server. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
[Code]...
Update: I understand what the error is and what would cause the error to occur. The problem I'm running into is finding out where exactly this error is coming from within code. The stack trace tells me its coming from Visual Basic but there's nothing else. No line numbers, no other info about what function caused this error to occur, there's zilch to go on so I'm left scratching my head trying to diagnose something, that looks to be wrapped up in a .dll probably.
We're running Ektron 7.6.6 sp2 if that sheds any light onto the subject. Is there any way to get a more robust stack trace? I checked the event viewer on the server and the info i posted earlier is all that's displayed in the event viewer. Which is none to helpful.

I have a DGV with a column bound to a Double. When I enter "1%" I get:
System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
I then try: MsgBox(System.Double.Parse("1%")) and get essentially the same error. (same for "$")
Is there a setting that will allow "$" & "%" as not only valid Double input but also do the correct adjustment for "%"?

I have a string of text being sent through a serial port to a text box (Text1.Text). The string has some symbols in in which I am assuming are Hex values. The hex values are Hex(1), Hex(4), Hex(12), and Hex(17). What I need to do is find the position of these hex symbols in the string of text so that I can split or grab the data after the specific hex symbol. I am not able to use substring or indexof or instr ... or at least I am not using it correctly to find the appropriate symbol.I was thinking if I need to iterate through the string character by character and grab each symbol or text and get their value??? If it is one of the hex symbols, then get the index number (or position).

I have lines of text that contain "degree symbols" (ASCII(248)). I want to replace those symbols with an alphabet character (Z).I am changing the line of text into a charArray,iterating through one character at a time. How do I define the ASCII(248) in code to replace each occurence with a Z? Something like string.Replace(ASCII(248), "Z") would be nice, but that doesn't seem to work too well.

I have a function that is getting passed a String and a DataRow.The String is a custom formatter. The idea is to do this
String.Format(passed_in_String, DataRow("ColumnINeed"))
The reason this is being done is at this point we have no idea what the column contains.However, if the formatter is "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" and the DataRow("ColumnINeed") is an integer containing 42, String.Format is returning: MM/dd/yyyy In this situation I need it to throw an exception instead of returning nonsense.Is there anyway to make String.Format throw an exception if the object does not match what the format string is expecting?
