I wanna read all cells of all sheets/pages in my excel file and just show the text content of each cell.I have written my code but have 2 problems:
Dim ExcelConnection As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:Excel.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;") ExcelConnection.Open() Dim MyCommands As New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]", ExcelConnection)

I'm using VB.Net's Excel component to read Excel file, but the performance is totally slow, since it has to loop through cells to get values. Reading a file containing one sheet with 1162 rows and 105 columns (which is small size compared to my general requirement) already costs more than 5 minutes.1. I want to ask if any of you have suggestion on reading such an Excel file with better performance, except OleDB, cuz most compies here have vesion problem?2. Is it normal that it tooks a long time for Excel component to read Excel file, or is it that I implement the code in a wrong way?

View 1 RepliesI'm new to VB in Visual Studio 2008 and am just trying out some simple test.I just want to change the Font & Boldness of some text but get the following errorProperty 'Size' is Read onlyI have been browsing the forums and it seems that changing the font size etc isn't as simple as
TextBox.Font.Size = 12
TextBox.Font.Bold = True
Is this true, and if so what do I need to do
[code]i need to read data from specific cells and assign them to other cells.
View 4 RepliesI need to be able to take numbers from multiple textboxes and input them into certain cells in Excel. Also need to do the opposite (Read numbers from Excel and put them into textboxes.)
View 2 RepliesNeed to get code to read all cells from row2 from excel worksheet1 and move into 2 dimensional array (rownum, colnum). I looked at forum for hours and its SOOO more complex that I need that I'm sure my confidence as a vbs person thinking this .net vba is simple
View 3 RepliesI want the people using my program to choose their own cell to read. I will have 2 textboxes (txtRow and txtColumn). They will have to click "read" to read from excel (but I will not open MS excel) and the answer will show in a message box. This is what I have done..
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCheck.Click
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Data Source= D:LeeABC.xls ;Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Extended Properties=Excel 12.0;")
Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter("Select * from [Sheet1$]", conn)
Dim dt As New DataTable
Dim Row1 As Single
Dim Column1 As Single
txtRow.Text = Row1
txtColumn.Text = Column1
da.Fill(dt)
MsgBox(mycell)
End Sub
I programmed a tool to help making invoices.It is fully programmed in Visual basic.
Can i put the items that i read in in inputboxes in cells in an excel page?
I am trying to read off some cells from an Excel File. I can't figure it out. Here is my code:
Public
Class TOC
Dim ExcelObj As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
[Code]....
After making WorkSheetObj I dont know what to do.. I am trying to dynamically change the Texts of Four buttons. The text values are to be to read off of Excel cells.
If i have a DGV where i change the color of some of the cells like this...
DataGridView3(0, 1).Style.BackColor = Color.DimGray
DataGridView3(5, 3).Style.BackColor = Color.DimGray
DataGridView3(6, 0).Style.BackColor = Color.DimGray
is there a way i can change the entire DGV back color to something else (including those cells)i tried DataGridView3.DefaultCellStyle.BackColor = Color.Indigo but that does not seem to work on the cells already colored. Im guessing this is because im only changing the default cell color?
I am compiling and deplying my program on CD. I am using the PAINTSTROKE font in my program. This font is not on everyone's computer. How do I tell VB 2005 IDE to include it? I assume this would work with any font that may not be on another computer.
View 3 RepliesI can't change change the font size or font name or color of the text in the DHTML Editing Control. I have 2 listbox controls FontNameList containing all of the installed fonts on my PC and FontSizeList containing some numbers to be used as fontsize and I use the execommand and build my App but the font did not change instead it grew bigger but when I tryed to change it back it stayed the same. The Code for that was:
Design.ExecCommand(5044, False, Font.Name)
I'm trying to write an import function for getting data out of an excel file. How I currently do it is as follows:
Private Sub ReadExcel(ByVal childform As PhoneDiag.frmData, ByVal FileName As String)
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim xlWorkBook As Excel.Workbook[code]....
From what I can gather, it more than likely comes down to this line:
Dim Obj = CType(therange.Cells(rCnt, cCnt), Excel.Range)
All I need is the text from the cells, not to create an object for each cell (and then not send them to garbage collection).Is there an easier way of just getting the text? Ideally, if I can get a method for getting the text values of the cell, I'd like to get the multiple rowArray()'s added to a master array and update the program's values later.
EDIT:I also realize that I have two options if I were to create a master array, say mArr, to hold all the data.Would it be better performance-wise to have mArr to be large and the sub arrays small, or mArr to be small and the sub arrays to hold more of the information?I ask because the files that will be imported will have more rows than columns, so I was wondering if there was any "set" way of doing it.
I set the font size and style using Vb code as i'm designing a Notepad like application, and when i start a new form i want to reset all the settings. Everything else is working, i'm just having a hard time working these out.

View 3 RepliesMy main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,

I am new to VB.NET and I am trying to read a line of data from a .csv file. For some reason the line of code below is returning "System.__ComObject", why? I verified that the cell contains "4/8/2011 9:20".
Me.cv_wks.Cells(i, "G").ToString
I have a label which appears full screen on a projector (VGA 2). In this label I will be sending strings. Some one liner's, some wrapped paragraphs. Some multi-line with carrage returns. My goal is to have the font dynamically change size to be as large as possible without overflowing the fixed label size.
View 10 RepliesWhats the font size real meaning? since when i use Arial font size 10 in the report its gonna take different space than the textbox im using (Both using exactly same font type/size/unit) its kinda if i set 10 milimiters to the font size why would the i and M for example have so diferent size.
i wish it was like in the Notepad where all the letters take the same space. what i need its to give a certain texbox(in the report) with auto grow to have always the same lines of height but its not posible to calculate it from vb b4 being inputed to the report.
Is it possible to change the size of a font in .net winforms without having to create a new Font with the new size?

I'm making an editor for my app. which allows the user to change properties of the controls including the font.I'm storing the values in a collection but I'm having trouble re-setting the fontstyle from the stored value. I'm storing the font information like so...
FontString = SpeedGroupbox.Font.Name & "|" & SpeedGroupbox.Font.Size & "|" & SpeedGroupbox.Font.Style
EditedControlsCollection.Add(FontString, "SpeedGroupbox.Font")
I'm writing a couple of custom controls in VB.Net 3.5, in VS2008, and would like to resize the font size based on the height of the control, and vice-versa. Is there any way of converting a font of say 38.25pts into a me.height, or the other way round?
I realise the font width will change dependent on the font used (which isn't an issue for my purposes), but as far as I know, the font height is usually consistent Accessibility/Large font settings won't be an issue with this application.
I'm running in to a problem and all the google searching for the past 3 hours haven't solved it.I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows 7 Enterprise x64 OS.Programs Intended Use: This will be a pre-deployment assessment program, to be run by the end-user to calculate difficulty of the deployment(setting up of new computer) to see if we can send a student or send a full time staff.It will grab the username, computername, os, etc which are all already working. I want it to grab the size of the user profile (C:Users%Username of currently logged in person). This is where I'm having difficulty.The function works fine on the desktop folder, but on mydocs it comes up with access denied errors, as well as "LocalApplication Data" being access denied.[code]
