i am trying to build an application where a specified number of cells are spoken from an excel file. what i want is something similar to what happens in excel, once u click play one cell after the other is selected and spoken and it automatically moves forward to the next, speaks and so on... but if i use voicecombo/SAPI.spvoice the UI freezes! any ideas?

I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?

From what I can gather, it more than likely comes down to this line:

All I need is the text from the cells, not to create an object for each cell (and then not send them to garbage collection).Is there an easier way of just getting the text? Ideally, if I can get a method for getting the text values of the cell, I'd like to get the multiple rowArray()'s added to a master array and update the program's values later.
EDIT:I also realize that I have two options if I were to create a master array, say mArr, to hold all the data.Would it be better performance-wise to have mArr to be large and the sub arrays small, or mArr to be small and the sub arrays to hold more of the information?I ask because the files that will be imported will have more rows than columns, so I was wondering if there was any "set" way of doing it.
My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... If refresh then new cell plus new time stamp. Another possibility would be to have a whole bunch of cells that refresh only once but at longer and longer intervals, e.g.,

I am new to VB.NET and I am trying to read a line of data from a .csv file. For some reason the line of code below is returning "System.__ComObject", why? I verified that the cell contains "4/8/2011 9:20".

I'm using VB.Net's Excel component to read Excel file, but the performance is totally slow, since it has to loop through cells to get values. Reading a file containing one sheet with 1162 rows and 105 columns (which is small size compared to my general requirement) already costs more than 5 minutes.1. I want to ask if any of you have suggestion on reading such an Excel file with better performance, except OleDB, cuz most compies here have vesion problem?2. View 1 RepliesI'm a relatively seasoned VB (COM) vet but this is my first VB.Net application and as is my luck a web services application feeding off a site that I can't publicly mention nor can I post any code that may expose the site.
So, here's the problem. I have written a simple form and have 2 buttons. 1 button simply asks the webservice for it's version. This works no problem. I was able to load the web reference using their supplied WSDL file for this "version" class. Now that I have that working I think "GREAT, that was straight forward. I have my credentials, urls, etc working, the rest of this should be just as straight forward." (See where I jinxed myself here?)
Anyway, I move onto the next WSDL and set of classes and get that reference added no problem. (Man that took a LONG time, like 20 minutes.) I then build my "Get my order data" code syntaxes on the prescribed exposed classes and run my project just to see what errors I get. The "run" process takes almost 45 minutes to an hour..... It's as if the app is getting the WSDL set all over again but doing it over and over..... I have no clue what's going on.
I've tried to disable all the Windows 7 "potential" issues, UAC, firewall, etc, but these changes don't help. Anti virus, spyware, etc all these are off and no difference. I'm running VS2008 as an Admin, right click "run as admin", and have complete control over this machine. Any ideas, suggestions, etc are VERY welcome and I am happy to expose as much of this application as I can providing I can stay with in the rules of the confidentiality contract.

When saving as an xls it works fine but when saving as a htm its a disaster Just a bunch or symbols and stuff. BUT if I go into my xls document and Save As webpage from there, it works fine!
I was studying visual basic 2008 and had reached almost 60% of it when I was told that my course curriculum included visual basic 2005. I will now have to reinstall visual basic 2005(.net framework 2) instead of visual basic 2008(3.5 .net framework). I was wondering- will it be completely different vb2005 and vb2008? I really wanted to stick to vb2008, I was getting the hang of it. Also, I was wondering, can I run my application vb2008 in .net framework? Is there any way around? Also, I used advanced installer to build a setup file for my application? Now the question is will the other computer(the one which will install from the set up) need .net framework of 3.5(since I built apps in vb2008)?

View 1 RepliesI have a DataGridView that is showing some weird numerical data. For example, my under lying datatable of the datagridview has 4.69, but the datagridview shows 4.6899999999999999995. What is weird is it doesn't do it for every cell in the column. For example, my underlying datatable has 2.66 and the datagridview cell shows 2.66, which is correct. I should note that the underlying datatable column that contains the numbers is of floating point data type which comes from the database column and the datagridview column is TextBox. This does not copy the cells. It simply displays an email with a body that says "true".

I has some vb.net code to export some data into Excel format. I had set one of the column to date format. But I want to avoid user from changing the format because they can easily right click the Excel cells, and choose Format Cells. How can I disable this option in Excel via vb.net code so that user will always follow my format?
