I am trying to figure out how to dispay and print certain cells from an excel sheet into a vb program. i am not sure on where to start. It is a large spreadsheet but i need the ability to call a certain persons name and the information for that person then print it out.

I'm developing app in VB.NET 2008.
I have one prob that i'm creating excel sheet runtime, loading data and printing excel sheet through my application. Actually it has 150 sheets to print.
i'm printing by using this code
xla.Sheets.PrintOut(Copies:=1, Collate:=True)
To print 150 sheets , its taking around 17 min. so now the user is waiting until printing process finish(ie 17 min ) .
actually i don't want to make him wait, i want to execute this printing process in backgroud. so the user can work on other process in my app.
how to print this in background ?
I need a software to build a program that can do the following:
-use a sql server 2005 express maibe
-use a sql server 2000
-connect to mysql
-use crystal report to generate the sheet for print
Until now i use the vb6 to work with that things that i have say but i looking for a new language because vb6 is a "little" old but i dont want spent many time learning a language for say to my self "damn this program cant do what i want" i have seen many versions of visual basic and one of them is the visual basic 2008 express that is free, but what is the limitation of this software? i can build all of that i build in vb6? i have the same controls? i know some controls dont exist in others versions of visual basic 2005,2008 etc but my question is the visual basic 2008 express if good for what? until now i dont spend many time using this software because the language if a quiet diferent from vb6 the vb6 to .net have many diferences but i need know is if i learn use the visual basic 2008 express i able to use the others versions? like visual basic 2005 and others products the is more professional?

My main goal is to have an excel spreadsheet that automatically plots the overall success of my stock portfolio over time (% change over time). I've been able to incorporate stock data into my spreadsheet by linking it to the web, but the trouble is the spreadsheet will keep no history of what the previous stock values were, so I can't graph how things change over time. This sounds like it might be too complicated to be built in to excel, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to program this in Visual Basic. Maybe something like this.... I have Visual Studio 2008/VB application that opens Excel workbooks, reads all the sheets, and writes some data to a SQL database. I need an easy way to determine if a sheet has any data on it. By default most books has three sheets (Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3) and usually, but not always, my books have data only on sheet1. But i need to look at alal sheets to check for the existence of data. I know I can do a nested for loop from 1 to columns.count and rows.count, but that would take a good bit of time since those numbers usually are something like 256 and 65K.
Is ther some easy way to determine if there is any data on the sheet? If there is, is there an easy way to find the "first" cell with data in it?
I'm trying to build an application wich shows some info about a specific user. The info is stored in an Excell sheet.
