View 6 RepliesI am working on an app now, and I need it to read text from a .txt file, but there's more. Here's what I want it to do:
Dim text as string
Find "file.txt"
text = line1 in txt file
Do something
text = line2 in txt file
Do something
text = line3 in txt file
Do something
And so on, until there are no more lines to read. I have searched, but all that I have found requires you to preprogram the amount of lines in the .txt file. I want to be able to add lines later without having to go into the code and add more.
I am using file.readalllines to read the file into a string, then using listbox.items.addrange and splitting by vbcrlf to insert the items. Is there a way to reduce the lag it causes for loading huge lists?
View 6 Repliesi need to reduce an amount of time by x% this is what i have so far [code] as u can see ive taken the hours minutes seconds from the time and stored each in a seperate variable so from 02:30:00 i then divided the hours by 60 and then 60 again to give me the total seconds in the hours and then divided the minutes by 60. i then added all 3 to give the total amount of seconds so now the buildtimetotal variable now holds the total in seconds i now need to reducce this by x% all vars are dimentioned as integers except for buildtimehoursback which is a double the problem seems to be when i try to convert the total seconds back to hours minutes seconds.

The only thing I can do for now is either use the substring function to remove the first character from all array values after 0 but I don't like that because it's messy and what if the split "works" as I want it to one one of the lines and knocks of the first character when I don't want it to.
I have a text file containing lines of data (File 1). I need to delete all the lines in another text file (File 2), which are found in file 1.So I could read file 2 line by line. And then once the line has been read, read file 1 line by line to search for a match. But that's going to be painfully slow.Or I could read file 2 into memory. And then read file 1 line by line and REPLACE the lines in file 2 with nothing, therefore deleting them. File 2 could be 100 mb, so I'm not sure about reading it all into memory.

I made a form that when you put your CustomerID in Text3 Box.. it access the records and make some calculations. now.. The customer will return the car.. Then his data should be deleted.. I want to know how to make that when I enter the CustomerID and press on the Command button .. It copies the other lines to a new output folder and doesn't copy these ... So it appears to be deleted using this way..

Below is what I've been using. While it does work, my program locks up when trying to count a rather large file, say 10,000 or more lines. Smaller files run in no time. Is there a better or should I say faster way to count the lines in a text file?

View 1 RepliesI have this code now doing and that is creating my chart from data off a text file. The final task I need to be able to do, to complete my program is have a way to select how many days of data to populate my chats with via a Text Box input. I am thinking I will need to read the complete text file first to count how many lines are in it, then what ever is put in the text box it will take that many lines of data from the text file and populate the chart. For this to work correctly it would have to read the lines of the file back wards.(last line of file would be the first line..) e.g. textbox1.text = "7" then the chart would show only the last 7 lines of my data.

View 2 RepliesI am trying to read a specific line from a text file and for some reason when I set my variable loopCounter = 1 To 5 it jumps all the way down to the word "Marty" in my text file but if I just change loopCounter = 0 To 5 it jumps to where it should be which is the letter "M" right after "25".
